Please help :)

I only have access to Maya Complete as this is all I can afford right now. For a couple of characters I am creating for an animated short they will need long hair. I have searched the net for possible solutions/tutorials and tried various things myself but just can`t come up with an acceptable method to Dynamicaly controled poly or nurb planes so they look like clumps of hair moving independently... they have a tendancy to move uniformly...

If anyone can help or point me in the right direction... or even tell me how in a really dumbed down way (I struggle to understand sometimes) how I could achieve this it would be really awesome! :D

I think I may well have figured it out... using IK Splines with a softbody plane attached, manipulated via active ridged body poly shapes inside a passive ridged body sphere to contain them. This attached to the characters head using a gravity field... or what ever field I need for the occasion seems to be functioning in a pleasing way... that seems to be just as good as the Hair plugin... maybe a little more intensive...

Anyone have an better method? :)

grrr.. I thought I was going to use softbodies but I get an error... so there is interpenetration of the planes anyone know how I can stop that please? *looks hopeful* :)
