30+ mins photoshop+wacom ... I wanted to spend a little more time on it but I have very little of that... just seems like a portait of Lovecraft deserved a cool monster in the picture somewhere...

I don't know nothing about Mr. Lovecraft but me and my friend went for the theme "Horror" and came up with this.

This was a cooperation project just for fun and practice. Me and my friend Sten (Kalasfixaren here on cgtalk) made this with OpenCanvas 1.1. Thanks elmasfeo, I got the impression from the wiki that he was a very troubled man so thought id slap the paint about a bit, after reading about him im actually quite intrigued as to his work. Its the kind of stuff that would probably appeal to me.

okay, I had to do a different take on this whole thing... I thought I wouldn't get more time to do this but I did...

here's my opinion of Lovecraft's works...

I grew up hearing tidbits here and there about the Cthulu Mythos

(I can't even look at the words without imagining that weird brother from Haggard saying it, that kind of lisp)... btw, don't you just sound so cool at school saying Cthulu Mythos... it makes you just sound important saying it... err... where was I? oh...

before reading his books, the impression I got of Lovecraft was that he was some evil god of terror and horror... I don't really think it's so, although I do hold a certain affection for his works in my heart...

his first books read like Poe's detective stories... very dry and mundane if you ask me... then again if you like stories that start out with something like:

"It was the most ghastly thing I've seen, I'm surprised it didn't kill me, though I might just take my own life because I know that there is such evil in the world,... gasp, now here's the story..."

you might actually like his first works..

I think the other two parts of his books are pretty cool - the dream cycle and his cthulu mythos... I'm only part of the way through his dream cycle and I've read just some stories from the Cthulu books... coolest thing is that the guy used his imagination...

my whole point is that you shouldn't get shocked if you start at the beginning with Lovecraft and think his works just suck... work your way through, or just skip the first stuff...

my friends in school were much cooler geeks than me... they listened to Metallica (back when they really were metal)... they knew about the Cthulu... they had the concert T-shirts and cool hair...

this is a dork's dedication to his geeky old school chums...



InesD - funny thing about Lovecrafts works, they served as foundations for many of the cool things we have today (don't get me wrong, I don't think Lovecraft was the ONLY giant whose shoulders we stand on.. but he did his part) ...so without people reading stuff like Lovecraft there might not have been people playing WarCraft...

(that's the funny part)

My only experience with Lovecraft is the movie 'Dagon', which, according to some of the reviews I just read, is pretty much Lovecraft to a 'T'.

With that in mind, and suppressing my less-than fond memories of the whole experience I decided to sketch up the creepy spanish fishing town that the film was set in. i didn't really do it justice... the town actually was pretty creepy in the movie.
