View Full Version : simple q.. how to make RayTrace material transparent
micco 09-08-2005, 08:13 AM Hi. A quick simple question.. How can I make my raytrace material transparent so it won't refract anything.. just see-through.
description: I have modeled a product box which is on a plane (reflective raytrace material) and I need the edges to fade off so I won't have any sharp edges.

Hi,
In the Raytrace parameters just uncheck the box next to transparency and adjust the value. :)

Thanks.. but that way it refracts the 'light'.. can I somehow do it like I would do it with normal material, like opacity does.

Turn the "Enable Raytracing" checkbox off for that material. Or turn "Raytrace Refractions" off. Both are in the raytracer controls rollout.

I havent used standard raytrace materials in forever, but can't you set the Refractive IOR to 1? That way it doesnt bend the image behind it. Thats how I do it with Vray materials.
