Here is something that I have been working on with photoshop. Maybe an exotique entry. I have gotten to the point that I could use some help and suggestions to make it better. Thanks for looking.

I think that on the bodies of the children more Caustics must have to
be seen. What disturbs me also somewhat is that a child has a
fishtail and the other children have feet. Likewise I think that
the colours are too flat and liveless somewhat. The perspective of
the animal face seems to be a little bit strange. Nice work. Want to see more.

You have a point with the otter and I am working on him. I don't know why it would be disturbing about the children having feet or tails the title could be a metaphor for all children of the sea who would be in Neptune's domain and therefore his children. As for the caustics I believe that is where I need some help. The colors of the skin tones were brighter until I converted it to a web image. I tried to fix it but I guess it didn't work as well as I hoped. Thank you for taking the time to look and comment on this.

Here is an update.

Do you think that the front girl looks better with or without the fantasy head gear?

You have such a nice way of depicting the charm of children. I like the front girl better *with* the fantasy head dress.

Thank you Fashmir

I like the head dress too, but I think it can use some refinement, it was a little experiment that I did rather quickly.

Euphrosyne: wow!!! This is beautiful!! I love the kiddies faces, really sweet and the composition is really nice.

I think you should keep the hair on the girl and the headgear keep that to :). But this is a really beautiful painting, nice work! Maybe add some sparkles in the water where the light reflects off things also maybye some shadows of fish int he distance.

Great work!

Thanks enialadam

yep! Fish are on the menu..... I mean coming in the painting. I was planning to do some painting in the backround so it would have a more watery look, sparkles sounds good. I have changed the head dress again, it will be coming later today.

I have two versions of this I believe that I like the one with hair better but I thought I would see what you guys think. And of course if you see problems or know of anything I can do to improve this please let me know. Thanks!

Thank you for the kind words, having a tablet helps alot. I hope that you will be able to get one soon. It really boosts your productivity and makes it so much easier to get the look you want in your painting.

Whoa!!! This is really cool!!!

I love the whole feel of this work. Very joyful and vibrant. I love the flow of the vegitation. I get a real underwater feel in this pic.

I don't feel worthy of giving a critique, but I will take a chance.

The light source in this pic is difficult to find. Not that it wouldn't be from above. I almost get the feeling that the children are somewhat illuminated, but nothing around them is affected by that aspect.

Maybe a faint glow around them as well as some specular on the vegitation would accent that.

It would add depth if there were rays of light somewhere in the background. Maybe where the fish are feeding?

Just thoughts,

I love your work,

The last pic in the thread shows the surface water coming to life. That looks really cool!!! I've tried to do that in some past pics and couldn't get that look. I get the feeling that the girl in front is the same as your avatar??? Your faces are beautiful.

Thank you for the compliments and suggestions. Yes the light is from above but I wanted to have a glow about the kids since they are the children of the God Neptune. I have moved the kids and the otter around for a better composition. Added some highlights to the otter and some streaks of light and sparkles that you and enialadam suggested. So here is an update. Oh yes, the girl in front is not the girl in my avatar she is just a made up face. I have a favorite niece and I guess that both of them resemble her somewhat. So that is why you thought it is the same person.

This is looking great Euphrosyne. I really like the expressions on the childrens' faces. The colors and shading on them doesn't make me think of being underwater, but i kinda like it the way it is. It's bright and inviting. The suspended baby does strike me as a little comical. Not sure why... Oh well. Looks great. keep it up!

The idea of the painting was to show Neptune's children frolicking in the sea, your comments make me happy because I wanted the painting to have a light fun look. Thank you.

Yeah, I wanted to punch up the contrast on the hair and make it seem more magikal. I think that the very light hair works much better too. Thanks.

Wow!!!

I love the latest update with the crown-style head piece and the rays of light behind the kids.

The overall feel is joyful and playful.

Beautiful work!!!
