Hello, I'm new here and will be between here and the game art forum, hoping to improve and create concept art. I just recently purchased some anatomy books, and wanted to share the work I've done without classes or books. I will also be following the drawing on ther right side of the brain workshop as I purchased the book last week and it's very interesting.

Monster at it's third sketch stage. There are some lines here that were not apparent before the flash picture was taken. I wanted to give him a strong beastly look, with bull dog front arms, but at the same time, make him seem agile and capable of big movement, hence the rabbit like rear legs.

This is a cyclops from the game God of War, referenced out of the manual. I liked the shading style I managed here, but was unsatisfied with the 2 dimensional look of the head.

The attachment is my saddened vampyre, someone who cannot cry, but wishes he could..

That's it, comment if you will please, thank you

One last thing, can anyone recommend a great beginners matte site/book?

I hope I didnt come off as being rude or anything, but if someone could give me some direction with these I'd really enjoy it.

Hi there!

Well you're on the right track reading the "right side of the brain" book. That's a good 'un.

Don't know how far you are in it, but it's probably taught you already that what you're doing so far is "symbolizing" features, rather than drawing them as they "really" are. Granted, these are fantastic creatures, but there is some lopsidedness and disproportion that's going on that's probably due to your eyes not yet being trained to "see" relationships. Don't worry, it'll come. :)

This is so unoriginal of me, but the best suggestion is to draw real (and to many, boring) things. That'll help tons with doing fantastic drawings.
