View Full Version : "She's Watching" - Character/Scene
CosmoHorizon 09-07-2005, 12:19 PM EDIT: WARNING!! CONTAINS NUDITY (Can not edit thread title)
Hi all, my 2nd thread here in the WIP forum, so excuese my noobness.
Recently, me and some mates decided to enter this competition held by one of our reginal institution, and we've been working on a 3D still. After some discussion, this is our concept.
The title of the piece is not yet decided, but for now, i call it "She's Watching"

EDIT: Details/Background Info
This image was inspired by Blizzard's Warcraft universe. The main character in the scene is a Nightelf archer. It was full moon and she was running through the forest of Ashenvale. She hears a sound and she nimbly ducks and scanns around for the source of that sound. I'm trying to capture that instant when her gaze is directed towards the camera.
This concept is just a basic illustration of what i'm trying to accomplish. The motion of the character is not yet decided, so is the enviroment and the outfit. While Anthony (my character concept dude) is working on the cloth, armours etc, i decided to do some generic modelling.
All the work are required to be done in Maya PLE 6.0, so excuese the watermarks...

The watermarks are definately overdone....so in order to reduce the watermark, i decided to use screencaps...
So, here's
Hand

And leg

I you spot some weirdness, please say so and i'll post a screencap from another angle
Thanks in advance

Face reference/Viewport setup

Sorry about the file size. So, are my reference images correct? They were done following some artwork and an anatomy guide as well as some rectifications from our art teacher.
That should be all the post for tonight...i'm currently working on finalising the body, and i'll post that once it's done.
By the way, does anyone have a link to a female face modelling timelapse? My previous attempt at face resulted in some extraordinary tweaking and still did not get the desired result.....in need of a video tutorial to follow the topology....
Looking forward to some great C&C guys! Cheers!

No replies yet? Sob...sob
Anyway, no school today, and kind of finished the body, looking forward to some anatomical/topological critiques
Edit: Old image removed for the sake of your eyes....they are too hideous to behold
Update soon!
This is the 1 subD iteration mesh....

hey i think the hotspots are the hips and shoulders...take a look at your refrences and try to refine those areas. also knee could use more definition. good start, keep em coming!

Hey, thanks for the reply captn'
I borrowed the anatomy book i was refering to, and i found out that my body is a joke, there are mistakes even i can pick up. I have done some fixing, and i'll post them tonight.
BTW, maybe i should chuck the fixed version into Steven's Body Topology thread....got his book and had been doing some intense reading

Ok, people, here goes the updated version, the old version was erased from my hard drive (taking up 200 kb of my free space)

Feel free to do paint overs, or ask for an alternative view. Basically, you can blast it with anything in your arsenal and i'll rectify her accordingly
Thanks in advance!

Bump...and update...
Started on the face, the Maya subD is getting tedious (i just can't use crease properly) so i had gone back to the good old "joan of ark" style, hopefully i got my topology right.

C&C very welcome

i've never played WoW, so i'm not sure if your going for a realistic approach or a comic/cartoon look, but a critique is a critique.
1. nose : way too thin, imagine yourself running through the woods and trying to breathe with a nose that thin- you've followed your ref pic but i think your ref might be off.
2. chin : too pointy, even if you don't plan on showing the teeth visibly, there must be a hint of the stucture below.
3. cheek/jaw : slightly too round, the bone stucture in this area should be visible in a thin character.
4. breast : dude, i know we sit in front of our screens all day slaving over our work, and our subconcious has a tendancy to take over on certain occassions, but honestly, how is she gonna run through the woods doing what she does with a set like that :) just get tired of seeing tiny waisted large breast super duper woman.
sorry about the rant.... i build anatomically correct characters, not into the comic/cartoon side of life- and by all means- ART is ART i'm not bashing you!
good luck finishing it

Yeah, i think i overdid the exaggeration (i havn't played WoW as well, but certainly looking forward to it once i'm free from the exam pressure)
