Thanks nebezial,melkao,Lemog,cHum,madshooter,daWinky,rawwad,zaki79I am so glad you like my city so much.
Nothing new to post yet.I'm working on the positions for the cars and background lay out no and is still testing a few idea's.

Hope fully soon I'll have somthing more to show.

11-21-2005, 12:33 PM
I'm waiting quietly... keep the futuristic way Corrie

11-21-2005, 12:35 PM
Im wanna see this update too... :bounce: the city looks just

11-21-2005, 12:36 PM
Depend of the distance with the camera... and the light... with some parts with different colors or variation, that can be sufficient
I'm agree with lemog... waiting for your next up-date...

11-21-2005, 12:43 PM
Thank you guys!

I'm going to work on it tonight and hopefully have something to show tomorrow.

Any one using max know how to save the alpha channel layer that you can see with the alpha swith at the top of the render window?I tried to save it with only alpha on but still gives me a color pic.

I'm quite new at this compositing thing and need some help.

11-21-2005, 12:53 PM
If you are rendering a tiff image you get an option while saving "store alpha channel" I suggest you to save as tiff image and then in photoshop you can check the alpha channel in channels options. I guess you understand let me know if it works.:)

Here is the ledge wich is part of the city where the two cars are going to be racing.

Here Ihave composited a view elemants to see what it is going to look like. All the renders are low res and not final ,but as soon as I'm happy with the out come and out lay I'm going to start to render all the elemant in high res (time consuming part of all this) and then see what i can add to juice the image up a bit.

I still have to add the red car behind the front one and there is no background yet-still working on that-may put the sky city in the far background.

All crits always welcome.

11-22-2005, 10:01 AM
O yes ,Madshooter I found a tutorial at photoshop that helped to use alpha channels with mask. Thanks for the start idea.

11-22-2005, 12:17 PM
Comp. looks real cool to me dude:thumbsup: No crits for now Eager to see the other car and the sky city in the background which will definetely add more depth to your scene.:)

11-22-2005, 01:32 PM
That's appear yet very good... I'm really curious to discover the complete composition... with the other cars... go Corrie... Vroummmmmmm :D

Here i have quickly added the red car but i'm not happy with the position of it yet. Will play around some more.

11-22-2005, 07:42 PM
You can also test a curved track... that permit you to have lot of positions or orientations possible... and why not, a spectacular try of the red car, wich want to pass the blue one... with the right wheels out of the track... a spectacular driving error... can be fatal for the red car...
...some thougts...

11-23-2005, 07:41 AM
for the moment the cars doesn't seem attached to the ground. but maybe it's because you have not time to fix it. Great concept.

11-23-2005, 09:25 AM
Cool cars! Nice materials! :)

Here i have moved the car to a better position that I am happy with for now.

Here I have made a few adjustments so the rad car is mor visible.I think it could work. The background is still eluding me a bit.

11-24-2005, 09:38 AM
Hi all.

I need some help please.

I'm trying to render the cars out at the required resolution using MentalRay.But it keeps crashing with the error that it cant allocate a surten amount of memory.

The machine I'm using is a 3,6Mhz Dual Xeon ,3GB ram ,Quadra FX3400 videocard which should be able to handel most any thing.

Please help if you know of a setting or something I can do to get the renders done.

Thanks all.

11-24-2005, 10:58 AM
Damn... you have a strong configuration... and you can't.. :surprised

Your renderer is 3dmax, not ? if yes... just sorry to can't help you... you have only 1 car in your scene ?

11-24-2005, 11:32 AM
Yes there is only one car in the scene.I'm using Mentalray only for the cars.

The city works fine at high res using the scanline renderer in max.

I whant to composit all different things on seperate layer in photoshop.

11-24-2005, 12:49 PM
I ran into the same problem with hi res renders in mental ray but your machine could eat mine for a snack. I finally rendered at 2k cause that's as high as I could go. Have you hidden all the unseen geometry. I remember you had these incredibly beautiful mcpherson struts and stuff that don't show up in your final view. Are they still in there?
Are we going to see more of the sky city? I love the combination of those beautiful floating spires with these wicked muscle machines.

11-24-2005, 01:03 PM
I whant to have a seperate city in the distance background.

I also thought about all those extra parts after I posted.I found while rendering the city parts that you can see at the moment that after 3 renders MentalRay boms out with memmory error.

Thanks for the info glenn23

11-29-2005, 05:03 AM
I have tried every thing ,almost and at work it has been very busy too.I've deleted lots of parts and taken the resolution down to 3000 and it still crashes after calculating the final gather.

Any ideas.

11-30-2005, 06:34 AM
I have gone down to 2000 now and it works. There is so little time left that I'll have to stick to this resolution so that I can atleast finnish the contest on time.

11-30-2005, 06:41 AM
Good news if that can works at this resolution... best wishes for next step then... we must see this final picture mate  and before the end :scream: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

11-30-2005, 06:59 AM
Hi Corrie,

it seems to be a problem with MR, so sorry that I can not help:shrug: ...but I agree with Lemog - if it works with this resolution just hurry up now:bounce: ...we have to see the final image. Good luck !:)

11-30-2005, 07:29 AM

Here I have started to render all the layers at 2k resolution and started to put it together in photoshop.

I'm still rendering more stuff to ad to the composition so I can do effects and so on in photoshop.

The Ultimate Race

Racing on the outer rimm of the tower on the low orbit station is the ultimate thrill for a select few men and woman that inhabbit these sky cities.Since they can remember they have been living here. The planet below is totaly un inhabitible from all the radiation.Nobody seems to remember why.
Being human they want to race and are always looking for thrills and excitment. The confinds of the city is to small for racing these home made brute engines with wheels and allow them to race the ultimate race, where you make friends with destiny to insure you race another day.As long as you win the bookies favour you and your pockets are always full of cash.

Tech:All modelling was done with Autodesk Inventor 10.
Max was used to do materials, lighting and some effects.
MentalRay was used for rendering the cars and Scanline used for the city.
The nebula also done with Max.
All compositing and final effects done with Photoshop using 24 Layers all together

This was the most fun I had for a long time and enjoyed the hole challenge alot.

12-05-2005, 07:53 AM
