something like the past cannot wait around forever and always seems to give way for something more exciting and new. in some cases its industrial in other cases its idles. is it his choice to conform? something tells me that he doesnt take interest in this new parasite that has surfaced in his world. he think of how to keep the peace and well being of his friends, the planet's elders. they will need all the help they can get. asking him self what he can do? want to do? finally there is a paralizing feeling that comes over him as he stairs at the memorizing monument this offworlder has erected. the heart and mind wonders for a solution.

Very interesting start bro. I'm liking the idea behind it so far, but you did put to many questions left to be answered. I'm digging that alien like space structure. The dragon is a cool idea too. I know it's your first sketch, so i'll come back later (before i bombard you with neat picky critzs, )

Arc80 : hey man yea i got some of the main things done. i guess i could be more productive. who knows however. much yet to do :D

Squibbit, beelow : thanks man. i guess i am doing something right?

andreasrocha : yea but there is much to do still. the object it self still seems a bit bland and plain i think ill try to fix that as time goes on. i hope that doesnt ruin the atmosphere i have created now.

Mecha Hate Chimp : well i am glad you like it... if that is what you mean by it giving you goosebumps :D i have not got a chance to scan the lines that came before this but ill do that later. in class right now and i dont have all the things i need to get that done anyways.
i did how ever want to change the colors a bit maybe try diffrent color variants... will do that over the weekend see what going to go down ... and if its worth uploading here as an update.

duddlebug : hey thanks, and yea about the hole thing... i am not sure now but originally i wanted to have some kind of space shit that is either docking in there... or some kind of giant arm that is reaching to the ground and minning for minirals. or something of that sort. nothing concrete but some solid ideas that i again will try to see if they work with the image over the week end. :)

yunisirees, NinjaASSN, Baron Impossible, Fahrija, Gonzalo Golpe, pushav : thanks alot guys for dropping in and the showing support. :) much love i show you, yes?

Fiolka Alexandre : thanks alot but i dont know if i want to update till there is something to actually update. i got some things worked out... good advice from the folks @ conceptart.org. at least in the time period between this challenge and the last so i hope i gotten better even if it was by a bit :).

--

thanks to everyone whom took interest so far in my thread and i hope you all will chack back soon and freaquently. i wanted to say that if there is an idea of how i can make this image better... dont hole back ... if you do find the need to shoot it down pls do so constructivly. comments and crits are incouraged. and i hope to get lots!

ill be back soon ... and by soon i mean i dont know when. but i do hope that i have something to show the next time i come on here. :)

cheerio.

Hi Slav,

Just checking in:)

Nice touches on your latest sketch. You definitely have "vastness" down.... I specifically like the river valley in the background with that reflection of what sort of looks like a tower with ships taking off beside it. The cloud formation looks great and is just one of many things that I can see that will make me get lost in the beauty of it all. Definitely a nice touch. I can tell this is going to be an incredibly beautiful piece.

xric7 : thanks for dropping in... the support is always welcomed :)

beelow : yea i started to color it but everything is rought right now. but i will update i hope again before friday

arc80 : thanks man... i dont think in the last challenge my composition was quite strong enough to comete... i hope this time around that has changed. allong with many of the other issues i was having.

Mecha Hate Chimp : i am acutally contemplating of putting a city there... but as of right now i am not really that sure. i guess when i get the sky drawn out and the atmosphere hase i will be able to see how much detail i will be able to actually have for the city and if its worth even rendering it out.

Absolutely gorgeous pencil work, Slav, great to see you here again. I love the character sketches, it's a shame you won't get to see the faces, but good of you to share them anyhow. I think the way you've executed this is really original, in particular the designs of the mech bits. Best of luck to you, i really like this concept so far!

calisto,W!L : thanks guys i am been so busy with a server i am running school and this that i think the image needs a bit more time devoted to it. probably next week ill get some work done for you all to see :)

Zepyhri : thank yea it would be a shame but none the less they are in the wip.. and i guess the process is half of the finished product in this case. i have a great idea that i just got sitting here in class.. something like myst rising and breaking up the light and shadow in the bottom and not so much towards where the horizon line is with the ships blasting off... i cant wait to sit down and pump out a few renderings of that... should be very exciting :D

Pawlack, botched, ogar555, 2xbo : thanks for the vote in confidence. i hope i am good enough this time around. i have been trying to improve really hard :(

angwa_falmar : the exact feeling of vastness and awe that i wanted to convay :) i think that is what is spectacular. something gripping and epic that makes you step back for a moment... and just glare with amazement. i just hope i can get there.

the1st_angel : thanks man although i think i said before that this work is not getting as much attention as i would like it due to my hectic schedual... but i hope to have something done for next week and hopefull have the whole thing done by month's end.

Oooh, i really like the very subtle contrast in colour temperature and the gesture is definately much much better
Just a small critzs, about the dude's proportion, if his proportion is similar to human proportion, then you are missing a neck. Just look at where the head connects on the body. The right hand could also be a tad bit bigger too. BUT if this is done in purpose and that's how the alien body is design and looks like, then disregard my critzs :D
Other than that, like your M&S entry, this is, yet again, another one of my favorite pieces here. You went on a different route than your M&S and i have great respect for that.

cheers bro :applause:

archie: hey man well i really dont know what to tell you it started out as a humaniod but i am kind of liking they way it turned out the pants are supposed to be a bit baggy like those jet fighter suits kind of thing. and i thought about making thier forms in general elongated. i am not sure if it will work and ill prolly have to fix some parts of them... but i guess i need to work on the fact that thery are white 1st. i kind of dropped them right form the scan and put general color on them. i dont really like it and i think ill change up the foreground quite a bit.introduce more vivid colors and stay away from greys. i also noticed that i made a mistake when it came to the clouds. well not so much a mistake as a general prefrance. i dont want the clouds to look like they do... but i do have a great idea for how to make them better.

Slav - It's looking really nice. I like the sense of bright light added by the newer characters put in. IThe figure on the left is harder to read (for me) than some of the earlier comps: The arm behind the head makes for a less readible silhouette. Have you considered moving that arm to the right a bit more so that it is not blocked by the head? Anyhow, good lcuk with it, can't wait to see more!

ori@r.a.m, xric7, sh@ke, Ducklator : thanks alot for the support guys it really means alot. i hope you all come back soon and visit me :D

achie : yea tell me about it... i have been stressing out with school... i found a contract job for a comic book place coloring thier line work... and to be honest i have only sat down to work on this for like 5 hours tonight i am really happy with they direction this is going in now.

walrus : i realised that i had a paradox in the image... so i had to redo the character... i wanted to keep the old/new mech/nature thing going on... and the guy in the jet fighter suit didnt cut it for me at all... even though it was a good rendering i had to scrap it because it didnt work for me :( yea i am kind of sad but integrity is more important. to be honest i would like to think that the crit you made is gone with the previous character... but if there is anything else that strikes you as uneasy please dont hesitate to speak your mind.

with that siad i finally got rid of alot of greys in the image... and am on the right track. i hope to stay that way now with the characters redone... and color finally working for me. :)

gardogg : hehe no problemo man just keep an eye out and if you can throw a comment myway every now and again ill be happy :) yea its actually easier to see the image in the earilier stages of the image. the reason being for this is the fact taht i was working out the color of of the image and kind of killed all the detail. but i started to render out a bit of the image as you can see yourself in the center there. :P

Arctis, Geci, authentic : thanks for the support guys i cant tell you how much its needed i am loosing my hair here. stressing out with everything but i guess thats every artist for yous :P.

Fiolka Alexandre : funny you mention that ... i was thinking of fixing those up after i am done the background :P i know its in dire need of work but since i came from a treditional background i like to work from the far most elements of the image to the forground. so its a bit more down the line then where i am right now but ill get to it soonn....

alright since i am goign to have time to answer posts during the week ill leave that for later. as things stand now i put another 18 hours into the image as this is what it looks like right now. next update will be closer to the end of the week depending on if ihave time to work on the blasted thing. i got a cool idea of what to make of the dress... and i still need to work out what's going ot be behind the guy that sitting down... prolly vigitation or fog... donno yet. well i think the image it self will explain more visually then i can with words.

i need to take a break. 8 hour work days 3 days in a row :( i need a girlfriend who lives near by and a social life. oh well since i got neither ill stick with me art.

And interesting this piece is! Visaully it looks great, but I'll wait until you start locking in more of the details to crit specifics. Keep it up!

Arc80 (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=134973) : i am not sure if its a pheonix but i would like to make some unique bird like creature sitting on her shoulders something maybe like a falcon or something. i am looking through hundreds of photos of landscapes to find the right inspiration for a more or less compitant background. sigh well back to slaving over this ... cheerio.

sh@ke : yea thanks alot mate! well there is one thing for sure at this point i am having serious problems with the midground just trying to find the right atmoshpheric density for that particular part of the image. well thanks again for dropping by i hope you will come back soon :D

NinjaASSN (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=75587) : HAHA you dont say. well i been good with girls but as of lately its harder to find a decent one... that's why i gave up looking. well as soon as i fix some more of the issues i have with the image i think it should look better.

roqsteady (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=191773) : hehe yea thanks alot man. i do notice most folks start coloring from very rough sketches and have alot of problems to deal with later on in thier image... i try to work and avoid as many of those as i can :)

KITTNLITTER (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=190433) : thanks alot for lookin at my thread. and i hope you make with the crits too :) but then again the lack of complaints i am getting from ppl and myself being my own worst critic is enough to make a good balance. :P

What a great progress ! Nothing to crit, just be careful to make the left arm of the "crouch" girl readable because in this last picture we could think (with a speed looking not in details) that the arm goes under the dress of the other girl... (because of the shadow of her legs)

Congrats.

Slav
11-16-2005, 08:03 PM
sypherr : yea sadly i had to move the arm and it seems many noticed it and i guess it didnt go without reason. :)

Korline : thanks for the suppirt. i suggest if the image doesnt load go to the contest page... or just keep reloading... also try to clear the cache file and the cookies aswell. that should get you on the road to full load freedon :P :buttrock:

authentic : yea it seems many ppl noticed that bit that's why i had to redirect his arm from wrapped around her leg to what it is now... the intention was for them to be intertwined and i would not want to change that... it gives it a very natural look as opposed to the robotic stright lines and so forthe of the other elements which are in the image. even though its a problem that i am well aware off i thnk you for bringing it up once more. since i had to read your post thrice to actually understand the matter which you tried to get across i completely agree with you... wouldnt want to make the image boarder line sexual or hint at anything porn related. :P

any who. thanks you guys ill work on it more and hopfully have more to update with soon :) keep :arteest: :arteest: to everyone :)

At last the edge of all worlds has been reached and the race of man spreads to every corner of every galaxy in the universe. giving grace and best wishes to their co-inhibitors the passive onlookers of Nibrious 58218-338 watch their planet upgraded to a new state of life. a renewed life. I've been staring at it for the past 5 minutes and I am amazed... the lights and shadows along with the colors on the lower half of your image are incredible. I will say beautiful composition and excellent executed. One of my favorites in the challenge.
