EDITED :
the scene is Happening is Somewhere in the middle of a Jungle were a kinda disease or whatever, is Causing the Death of Everything. it's when there are people with Hope and Passion fighting Death trying to survive.
there's a Man prostrating himself in front of One alive Tree looking at it with hope of Seeing the living Jungle(Life)because he Can't get there. -- That one tree here, to that man, means The Hope, the Chance to see the real life.
up there where the Waterfall begins there are people Looking at the man hoping that he may survive the death -- to those ppl that tree may worth nothing, But to that man it is the joy and hope for surviving....they both are Saving each other.

the idea about the waterfall is that When it gets to the Black area -which should make the lake- it Suddenly Disappears. so there's no Water There

The forehead looks a little too small. I think that usualy the distance between the pupil and mouth level is roughly the same as pupil to the top of head line. May be it's the eyes and ears that should move done a little too.

I love your concept. the diversity of everyones ideas is outstanding!

Nice idea. I like the model too, but I think you should shrink the man's face a little. Or just pull his eyes down a bit. OK, that sounds strange, sorry for my bad english :)

Pooyag

no..no,that's a good idea....i will do alot of remodeling when he is Kind of Laying....
with this man,i'm in the Skining process, weird? i just want to have a reasonable deformation.
and i am working with the environment....using paintfx i'v done a little of jungle on the left, the waterfall the mount shape is done, and the land itself.....
i have a question now
now that i have the jungle, the land and a little of waterfall the issue is i cant look Down to that little tree and sort of looking from up to the waterfall where ppl are standing, and still be down there so i am in the base of jungle:scream:
my idea is this :
make the land the way so i can see both:)(Really?:D => look at the next sketch) but the thing is that it can be wrongfully understood....
anyway i can make it
bring me ur ideas please !!

This idea of seeing the waterfall as well as what is in front of the person is pretty cool. Its kind of like you will be creating a panoramic shot (where the central axis of the camera stays in the same place and the camera rotates taking several shots that will later be combined into one shot). This sort of picture taking can really create some cool images because as your eyes travel across the picture (in this case from bottom to top) it will appear as though the viewer is looking up (as opposed to a regular picture where the viewer would see all of the shot without moving the angle of his head). Maybe you could look into panoramic picture taking and do your rendering in this fashion?

btw,do you mean like an image that has more pixels in its height?

The type of perspective that I'm trying to describe is very difficult to explain so here is a picture that illustrates what I'm saying. This is a drawing I made for a flash game last year. When you look down, you see the building that you are in and when you look up, you see the horizon. When you look up further, you see the sky. All of which are rendered from one vantage point. It is like multiple snapshots spliced together to create a panoramic image. One could even describe this as accounting for "peripheral vision." So to create an image like this in 3d, you would need multiple renders spliced together (one looking down, one looking across, one looking up, etc) You could even take this so far as to have the top of the image be something that is actually above the head of the viewer and the bottom of the image show the feet of the viewer. That would be exaggerating though... but I think you get the idea...

It is another great example of the perspective that I'm trying to describe to you! Apparently, it can be used successfully! This approach actually brought home a first place. I promise I won't bring up this issue any more ;) I just couldn't resist showing you when I stumbled onto such a prominent example as this.

Look at the bright side, I just bumped your thread to the top hehehe

the black thing in the middle is kind of pond in where waterfall should meet it. the singled out red thing is the man i'v modeled. and around it it's a plan in where there will be cracks and stuff...so it'll be heavy. that's why i'v detached it from the rest of land....Hope you like it and Cs are Welcome ;)

hey this is turning out really cool, about cracks the technic of making them is good, but i think u should check some refrences,to see how these kinda cracks are made on which solution, waterfall is lookin great,do u have any other render engines more than the default?i mean is tehre a way,to render GI?
man just keep it up,i want to see more!

thanks ali...i made the cracks using displacement, just a picture,u know. and i'm sorry,i didnt really understood what u meant about reference....do i have to look at reference images about Cracks?
as you may know i'm using Maya. and waterfall is Made with PaintFX so,i cant use Mental Ray in a Useful way(at least i dont have the knowledge)turn to poly or nurbs, that would work well enough i guess. or maybe u mean some other Rendering Engine?
anyway...Thanks Again man.

i'm Currently Working on the Nearest tree...it's a late fall Oak tree. i'll post pictures soon

for me,ur doing the right thing! forget about render engines,i thought ur using max,of course i havnt worked with Maya,so i donno which Render engines are supported! The only Thing i know is this that, scene must be level designed,i mean if ur using that level of detail just for cracks,u must add similare level of details to the other parts,i think u should behave to it on a a preplanned way,This geometry is big,so that ull have lots of work to do with this level of detail,u have texturing and shading left too! they need a similare level of detail too! it must be a level designed scene!:D Just keep up continuse and nice work!

thanks Alot Ali...i get what you mean. i'v done some stuff that i think will work jus fine...the seperated part is gonna be the same amount of (dont know the word) i mean i'v Detached it right off the surface...i believe i can combine them now,and they do not share one Material...buy if i select both the UV is gonna be Continuous(ready for Texturing)...is That somewhat what you meant?if so i'm Glad...Thanks Alot For supporting Ali,It Means aLot:thumbsup:

Pretty good job so far but yeah that's too dark. Maybe you could change your background color. Good start on the texture but I guess it will be better if it would be different on all the model. Maybe some parts without the same bark and stuff.

Itīs an intrigant concept. The modeling is on the begining so I wonīt talk to much about it. Its nice to pay some attention to the topology of the characters, becouse it looks like a little disordered.

Iīm waiting for the final piece, that would be an impressive work =D. Good luck

This is looking good over all, however, I'd recommend looking up some reference pictures of children. You will see that the proportions of the head and body of children are not the same as that of adults. What you have here looks like big adults and midget adults. about Fiberbrush,i must say that its a tool in ZB ,..which does the hair related things,it has some moddifires like density, gravity, glooming and stuff like that which u can adjust and while ur model is on the canvas,u can paint in 3d transformation,on the model,i mean when u paint on the model,it know that its a 3d model, and its not a flat object,so that u can do it easily but its a little bit tricky to achive the best form, and materials and Lighting in ZB as u may know, are more significant than modelling! hope u get something frome all these lines!

hey dude, how ya doing! looks cool so far wondering how the final outcome gonna be :D btw my suggestion is more on planning thing, eventhough its 3d artwork, i maybe ya can start of with more traditional aspect thing like lots of doodles on paper particularly to get good concept of each character, composition lighting etc.. not that there's sumthing with current progress, but everyone would agree it would be even more awesome to have well detailed planning since the final outcome will be just one piece of artwork  aside from the rough sketches maybe u can try few more stuff like rough colour key using photoshop, figuring out best composition (and perspective like gardogg dude mentioned) and finalizing your design (robe, tree, etc) so that when it's on you can straight away model one by one without having to do much redoing heheh, doesnt matter if ur not feeling cool with your drawing skills, as long it could help ya visualize your idea instead of straight way translating it into 3d.. in fact when u got your final rough layout, you can figure out better which details can be skipped and save much of your time!

your idea like everyone said is pretty 'spectacular' dude! now its the matter of getting the others digging your work! and remember this theme plays with feelings so make sure u bring artwork to life, getting the audience view this work as they were like that guy with the tree! in fact maybe u can even redesign to make the tree 'feels' that guy although it's not an alive tree.. these are subtle things u may consider the strengthen this piece

good luck in this challenge.. i'll try one in the future when im ready for it, see ya in malaysia next year! :D

The facial expression is good and the model is overall pretty good but here are some problem areas that I think you should look into.

http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/4795/untitled18oq.jpg

In terms of the background and composition... I don't think it makes sense. I'm seeing a man reaching for a small tree and some big green hills in the background. I don't really know what's supposed to be going on here. The picture should tell the story I think. This picture is just making me confused. Hope that helps! Don't mean to be critical of your work at all. I just want to help.

Regarding the head, I only meant to point out that the top of the head in your render was too cone shaped (like the aliens on the movie Coneheads). I think you ought to bring some of those vertices down.

This last render looks awesome! Great facial expression. Also, I read madlight's post. I didn't know that this scene was going for a surrealistic look. In that case, the weirdness and oddity that I thought were unintentional are working out very well.

Yes, do not hesitate to add post effect compositing using photoshop or anything else to gain time on render.
What about a little realignement on the global scene, like cinema viewing ? (something like 4XX*2XX pixels multiple)

That is too bad to hear about your lap top. Makes me want to think twice before ever buying a lap top... I'd imagine that fixing a pc is a lot easier. Well, I think you did a very nice job. The final render of the man looks very good. No kidding. The aging and the expression on the face is incredible. So I too look forward to seeing you in future challenges. You have been fun to learn and grow with in this challenge. We will all be even better and more knowledgeable in the next one! Good luck, be safe, and keep working hard! I look forward to the next challenge with you!

By the way 3rd user, I think you ought to post the best shot you have available of your final character and the background and whatnot. I know you didn't finish, but at least this way you will have a nice thumbnail icon on your thread that people browsing challenge archives will see and want to click on.
