This is my concept sketch, my idea of the future might be a little different, as Einstein said. he wasnt sure how the third world war would be fought, but the 4th would be fought with stones...a last resistance of the new world power has begun...

the large facility in the front is one of these units, built & was unleashed creating chaos throught the world. ..this is the resistance of the aftermath & destruction when everything went extremley wrong.

Lookin good so far... my only suggestion as of yet would be to maybe change the camera angle. The composition seems a little too balanced... perhaps rotate the camera so the characters are more on one side and the buildings in the background on the other also, tilting the camera up may give a more spectacular feel to the facility in the background.

Nice idea... interesting subject. Not sure what aspect of the image is intending to express the spectacular. Perhaps some more details about the background would help, or more explanation?
I agree about the composition... I'm not sure what is more important; the machine in the background, or the characters in the foreground? With a tall machine like that, you may benefit from making the proportions of the image more vertical, perhaps a portrait format? This would also allow you to show more of the sky, which from the sounds of it, is a key part of your story.
What is the story behind the characters? Why are they in olde style clothing?
Will be watching this one :)

Thanks for the input! I like that idea of turning the angle of the whole scene, then setting the camera lower to the ground angled up. Should get a good close up of the main characters & the car with skeleton in it for the feeling. Then as you look up you see the enormous facility & better shot of the sky with some nasty-type weather effects being altered by the energy beams from the facility. With the castle-like towers on each side of it. Modern but yet middle-age combined. I will get to work on some new layout shots!

I like two and three maybe something in between. You should try tilting the camera way up so you can see the main towers peak up in the clouds. Keep it up. :buttrock:

I am going to go with C_Jewells Idea with more of an upward camera, maybe even cutting out the characters or keeping that part small to maybe an outline in the foreground. So i can keep the main focus on the facility & sky (weather being altered) . I think this will present more of the "Spectacular" feel. Thanks guys.

...no these are just backgrounds from Katrina, just getting a feel for the size & depth. its going to be interesting making the actual clouds, 3d instead of a background picture.

Lookin good...I'd still experiment with tilting the camera a little more so you can see the top of the facility. Although it's up to you these look great. :buttrock:

I like teh ships you've added, but I think you lost a llittle of the dramatic effect pulling the camera back so far...keep giong... you've got a good one shaping up.

I think your right on the camera idea. doesn’t feel the same. good catch, I watched star wars the other day & I think I strayed from the original a little too much, hehe. I'm thinking pulling the camera close then rotate up and too the left. may catch a couple ships up in the air but lose the whole ground, might be able to see one of the towers.. i'll get some new shots up tonight. i really appeciate all your feedback.

i want to stay focused on the Weather Machine, effects & atmosphere. I'd like to have a swirling hole surrounding by clouds, to show the machine actualy changing the weather, something on that idea.

I need some suggestions on what to add to spice this up, i plan on having some cool weather effects going on..but i think i am going to need more. the weather machine is going to be huge with detail, thinking of some ships, city/mountains. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

why dont you try to put some items flying because of the wind (may be a cow jej ej je) that the machine is generating, and maybe some of the ships that are flying are loosing control because of the weather, you could also may be creat some kind of beam that the machine is throwing to the sky, and the lightings that you are going to put in the machine, also are stryking the ships. Just my two cents.

yea! i like that idea, some debis, i also had built those ships, i could put in, like you said, losing control or crashing towards the camera. nice idea.
now the other problem is, what camera angle should i go with? i like focusing up, but also would like to maybe see a horizon, with some type of landscape? not sure about this. but i know to compete with the spectacular theme, i am going to need to add depth to the scene.

If you make one of the lightning bolts going through one of the flying fighters the red light from the explosion would give you another focal point, and the glint of the red on some of the other objects would help move the eye around the image.
Remember that if it is raining everything will be wet. which meants your textures will have to have lots of specularity.
Great start, I look forward to see where this is going.

It's starting to really take shape... I like what you did with the camera angle. It will be much more dramatic with the ships and lightining added in the scene. The idea of adding an explosion to the scene as Radulan said would be pretty cool. Keep up the good work! :buttrock:

I had an idea of say the closest one make real close & take up left side, where you see a scientists at work, then panning to the left you see the others in distance about the size of the original. Almost like that matrix scene where you are looking almost right off of the closest one… hmm I’ll play around with it. still got some time to keep modeling away before I texture, & want to make the clouds more detailed modeled.

i thought it would make more sense to have one big huricaine cloud in the middle, the three M.E.P. Machines would create one massive one instead of 3 little ones, ya know? good you mentioned that, i had'nt thought about it till you reminded me, i'll be getting to it. having a little trouble getting the swirling (huricaine) cloud to be realistic, any thoughts any one?

I think this things are usually done with particle systems but depending on your app and machine you might wanna use diferent stuff.
I'm trying to remember where I saw a tut on that - I'll post a link if I manage to find it.

using MAYA 6. bought a DELL XPS Gen. 5, i've been searching for a tut, for the clouds. i watched War of the Worlds & also like Lord of Rings style clouds, i am definetly not going to use what i have up there now, thats just a plane with verts moved, cheese written all of it. hehe. let me know if you find anything, i really suck @ texturing too. i try to make in photoshop. still kinda new to this program. i used 3d max before. nice to hear from you SoniaNotRed, your modeling is coming along nice, keep it up.

I don't know much about Maya but can't you use that paint tool thing to have clouds tracing a spiral path or something? That kind of effect is so much easier in Maya.
I can't remember were I saw the old one but I remembered an even better tut for this kind of effect. It's for max, though, and particle based - kind of heavy to render...
I suppose you can't paint...?

oh yeah, painting is very easy in maya. there is only a few types of clouds though, i tried but dosnt give the huriciane effect. thats for the tut, i will check it out.

this fog in MAYA is driving me crazy, saturation, clipping planes, nothing works!! i want to have the background foggy, i did this blue in photoshop. every tutorial i try doesnt work! anyone know how to make fog without it fogging the whole scene, i know there has to be a better way than envirment fog. or something, i am going nuts over it. ARRRRRRRHHHHHHHH!!!

So, what happened with the particle system for the hurricane? Doesn't work in Maya?
In Max, the fog problem you're having is controled by the camera parameters - but I guess that being a former max user you already know that... :)
Is that blue fog the Photoshop test? Maybe you're just not getting the masks right... :shrug:
The textures and the city really added a lot to the image. :thumbsup:
I kind of liked the "panoramic" composition better, though...

It might look a little fake, but you could try adding a plane infront of the city scape, lower the opacity. Another idea thats jumping around in my head is just putting a spot light over the city with the fog option checked, Im being vauge here but I'll be back with specifics after I check it with Maya.

Hi Sonya not red, hehe. good name, volume fog is about the same in maya. but i think it might have to do with what you said, Camera paremeters, it applys to the whole scene. still digging for a tut on this. it will be a nice tool once figured out. easy to change fog color, density. but it applys like a sheet right in front of the camera. i am doing something not right.

The reason I mentioned volume fog is because unlike regular fog (wich is controled by the camera) it's contained by a gizmo solid, so you can place it wherever you like.
Have you tried checking the help files? They sometimes come with tutorials...

Nice update..lookin good :buttrock: Textures look good... Maybe try a bluish glow on the lightning and see how that looks, maybe some red glow on the ships engines too and you can try to blur the background a little to show some depth of field. Keep it up Skippy :drool:

Damn...Looking nice!! I like the camera angle and position of the ships...only comments would be to maybe add some more lightning in the background and maybe some rain? The clouds look a little funky in the upper right corner too, but that's all that stands out to me. You're getting close!

This is the Weather Machine idea. it uses EMP's to create & control weather effects, i beieve this will be developed as a weapon, someday.
