View Full Version : Living Toons - Character/Environment - Ingram
Ingram 11-06-2002, 06:42 AM Wheehoo! This one should be fun. Real drive to finish now; If I don't finish I won't be complete.
Quick concept of me. hehe

weird: showing as link instead of image. oh well :D
Aussie type hat is because it's my R/C Flying hat. My hobbie is flying remote control airplanes. So get to model me, airplane, all kinds of little tools, and support stuff. Wheeeeeeeee!

Thanks Nightwing I thought so as well.
Here's a pic I just made at during lunch with a high angle view to try composition out. Also some rough model sheets for my airplane.
Sorry for the picture no scanner at work  Will have to clean it up once I get home.

(And for those who would ask, that is supposed to be an antenna)
edit: to fix link to cleaned up picture

Thanks much guys for the feedback! :D
Worked a few hours on the plane to get it started.
Turning out better than I'd hoped. Mad props to you all for the skills I pick up here :buttrock:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/ingram98/images/toonplane.jpg
Plane looses something without the textures. Has lots of cool sponsorship stuff down the side. like this one...
http://www.minicars.se/images/TWM/A004.jpg
I'll have to add some more color to make up for it
Ingram

Damn... R/C may be my hobby but 3D is my addiction.
Had to add the stripes tonight. So I made a wire :D
http://members.lycos.co.uk/ingram98/images/toonplane2.jpg
Working mesh to the front, smoothed to the back.
Hey the plane looks great! Definitely looks better with the stipes, you know you could always make all those adverts using geometry.
Ingram
11-10-2002, 06:21 AM
Yep I could do that Rye, but that would cause my head to explode. :D I might simplify a few and model them if time permits.
Should get back to making myself so I might as well post my ugly mug in here for checkin against me toonself. Old picture with less beard, hair, and fat than my current incarnation. hehehe

Great plane, man! Looking forward to more! :D

It's looking very cool, I would almost have preferred him wearing the cap like you do in the picture, rather than a hat;)
Still, looking good! Love the plane!

mtmckinley: For truth, justice, and the right to bear cleaning supplies! ;)
Carina: Saw a bunch of baseball caps on other people already. Also in my hobby baseball caps don't really do a great job of blocking the sun out of the corner of your eye when your watching a plane wizz around the sky. :D
Small update: have some clothes and a neck. Damn I have a tough time doing ears. They need a bit o' work.
http://members.lycos.co.uk/ingram98/images/livingtoon3.jpg
Also need to get started on an enviroment. Hoping for perfect flying conditions; Green grass, blue sky, puffy white clouds, and little or no wind. hehehe

:bounce: haha..U should make him bite his tongue when his is flying the plane...or..or fly the plane on your character and make it chase him ..lol
cool ...the first air plane modeler in this challenge ..i think!!!
Ingram

Yes! the perfect expression of deep concentration. I'll have to try that. Thanks very much. :applause:
Actually was thinking of an animation where he is so smooth and in control he's doing tricks with the plane like looping around him and jumping over it like a jumprope, cutting a strand of grass from his hand, or hovering on the propeller inches off the ground while dancing a jig. hehehe.
The best laid plans of mice and men...

Small update. Some tools and dodads to put in the background :D
http://members.lycos.co.uk/ingram98/images/toontools1.jpg
Along with astro-turf that will probably become my grassy flying field. My arm for some textures... :scream:
la de da hopefully more progress tommorow.

Update on the body:
In a moment of time saving thought I chose to go with a Simpsons-esque 3 finger hand. :D
http://members.lycos.co.uk/ingram98/images/livingtoon4.jpg
Whoa gotta rush now. Have to make this the first challenge I acually finish.

Looking good! :)
My what big eyes you have! :D
Ingram
11-25-2002, 03:59 AM
Haha, Yup, I think my baby blues look too big cause they have no lids yet  Soon to be remedied.
Was kinda fighting with some rigging tonight so I can start to get everything in the enviro in the next couple of days.

Here's a shot with a pose, simplified enviroment, and remote: wip, wip, wip, hehehe.
http://members.lycos.co.uk/ingram98/images/livingtoon5.jpg
looking good, i like that texture on the shoes.
keep it up :wip:
Ingram
11-30-2002, 01:27 AM
Thanks rayz. Most everything else in the scene has a bumpmap too but I have to tweak them a bit. :wip:
He can even show off his new remote to everybody himself :). Replaces the stand-in he had. The issue on the hand has been noted. Oh did I mention WIP? hehehe

Ingram, I really like your style. One of my favorite cartoonish things I've ever seen
I don't know how to do good 3d. I'm working at it but I still suck. Oh well! Keep up the good work!
Ingram
11-30-2002, 03:02 AM
arjun: Thanks alot. Thats praise is too high for me. Keep plugging away at it; the "working at it" part is key. After all we're all still working at it :D. Just to think about all I've learned since finding this place alone... Mind boggling.

Wow all my posts from last night gone due to the rollback :surprised: Oh well
Thanks again Dirk_P_Ho as it's the second time I've thanked you for that post :D
Here's the latest update
I think Ryes comment from last night were that the ground was too bright against the red and the grass needed to be broken up a bit. I'm working on it now.
Edit: Great now my web host's gone wonky guess I'll have to attach.

Ingram

Not quite finished, I was planning on polishing it up a bit today.
By adding some tufts of grass or weeds here and there to break up the ground, add some more smoke, and somehow show that the plane is in the air more as that was also commented.
DimitrisLiatsos
12-08-2002, 04:25 PM
:bounce: Make some DOF ( depth of field) or motion blur on the plain!!!
Ingram
12-08-2002, 06:31 PM
Theres more DOF and motion blur on this one.
Close to finish. A bit more tweaking and I think the next one will be final.

This is one of my favourite pieces ... you did a great job :applause:
A nice hobby you got.
Do you plan an animation later?
my vote :)
Nice ingram! It definitely looks more like its flying now. I like the little tufts of grass too. :)

Thanks guys much for the support.
KoRn_ART: yes, I intend to make an animation if not just to show the guys in my flying club what I went to school for. :D
