The annihilation after the nuclear war was all most total.
Very few survived the blast wave and the heat, among those who survived most died from suffocation or radiation.
The whole planed was wounded deeply, life as we know it ceased to exist and the ecosystem damaged beyond believe, making survival close to impossible for the very few survivors.
Without plants and animals, except from rats and a few species of birds, all that was left was Hell on earth.
Supply of water and air is short, coursing the survivors to scavenge the planet for what ever they can find.

The change towards a better world started on an April morning, it was a small change, but in its own way it was spectacular.

The scene takes place on that April morning.

For decades people have been living underground to get away from the radiation some alone and some in clans.
The good Dr. Warless has been living lots of places underground in most of Europe, alone with his pet Robot, who he has come to love as his only friend or dog, depending on radiation.
Dr. Warless has partly lost his mind in the search for both survival and a sign, that once again nature will rise from the cold devastating grave mankind had to offer.
As Dr. Warless is scavenging the streets of Paris, he is paralyzed by the sight of something he barely remembers, fighting it’s way through the cold asphalt, the sign of a new beginning…

Well Danny, after some time underground after a nuclear blast i would suspect the mask to be more dirty and worn out. Maybe some bigger fractures to it...

Looks real spooky man. About the skin, you want it to be that pale, coz its really looking pale man. Also the last part of your zipper/jacket towards the left hand is too straight..give it a slight curve. Over all amazing work man.

dannyfalch

Stuff that still need modelingwork now:
Blasted street of Paris
Rubble and debree
Flower and cracking asphalt
Notre Dame with damage
Personal items in the ruins
birts and rats
stalkers
details og the doctor

Very nice work. I would make his jacket a bit thicker though, make it a bit more "urban" ?
Looking forward to see how this one ends :)

cheers

Thanx, i'm still working on the jacket, i'm planing to put some more straps and seams on it...

well, most of my crit goes to the torso of the robot. It seems very "boxy" compared to the rest of the body. Also think it looks wrong when the armes are exposed and the torso isn't.

Feets and hands on the robot... :)

The mans right sleeve looks wrong from that angle.

hmmm,. yeah,...
hand and feet are ment to be strong as he's a former working robot.
he's strong torsoshields are bringing comfort to the doctor, a good watch dog.
the form of th erobot is met to be strong and hard working-ish.

Good work also with the textures, i just think that you could a bit work the textures on the street, i don't know if a test, but to me not is good, my opinion. The light is not done yet, onlt the dirrection og the shadows (i think), still lost of tweeking to do, this is a 4:48 minute render in Final Render stage 1 1000x600 resized to 800x480, just to give a idea og the environment.

The street material is far from the final, is't going to be asphalt, and the asphalt will crack open where the flower comes through.

the car still needs a bit of glass in the windowcorners and an exhaustpipe hanging from the motor.

i think i vill do 2 or 3 more cars.

I appreciate the C&C:thumbsup:

Hey Danny, this work is going better and better :bounce: A question. This is the final setup of the camera? You could increase the focal length, (Are you using 35 mm?) to 25-30, no? Maybe would be more dramatic, on my opinion. The scene remember to me Poland after nazist attack, hehehe. Great work mate. :applause:

I was hoping this was the final camera set up, but I'm having a hard time fitting it all into view,
I think I will go back to some composition once I'm done with the modeling and have det final shapes of buildings and charactors.

Updates.

The street must be asphalt and cracked open right in front of the camera.

Flower growing thorug the asphalt.

Sidewalk, gathering from google reseach on paris I will have to do some nicelyshaped street lights and some metal things about 1 meter high (best guess is that the prevent stoopid parkings) all or most bending away from the blast.

Trash a car or two, i have planed on trashing an a4 but i hope to do another car aswell,
only seen from below sticking out of the building.

The far building on left, still needs some inner walls and pieces of floor for depth.

Far building on the right, most of it will be covered by the robot, but I'm gonna model and texture it anyway (just in case):wise:

I still want to do 2 or 3 charators of gang/klan members hiding or sneaking around in the ruins, observing the good doctor.

I would love to do some golum-ish movement on them, a bit mutated and semi transparent.

I have not yet come to a conclution on they should wear gasmasks or not, maybe just once covering the mouth.

I think they will be wearing hoodedswetshirts, very dirty og black, maybe skiing og welding glases.

but, yeah, only if i get the time...:scream:

hmmmm,. it's the only white and green in the scene, i was planing to make the flower very brught maybe with a glow,. but I'll wait with that till Lighting and rendering.

The type of flower is chosen because of it's simplicity, white flower leaves and that it looks a bit naive,.

I'm very open for suggestions for flowers but it will have to be a european white flower.

Thanks for the C&C.

I have now come up with an idea that will bring all the flowers together in one..

-
I have done some more flower google reseach and found out,
the flower (#1) is called Osteospermum and i comes in many different colors and gradients,
wich meens that i can use the flower #1 and have a color gradient from deep red to white and a purple flowermid, green leaves and 1 or 2 in bloom that would give a color contrast and a more powerfull flower.
I'll get at it and see if i can get some sss working in the leaves as well, will not be much tho since the light hits the flower from the front right side.

Personally i like number 4, but you should remember that some of those flowers are proberly more "excotic", which would reduce the chance of finding them at a place like that...

How about using a easterflower? (påskelilje mener jeg (danish)) It would also symbolise spring, where everything starts to grow.

the metal in the car should have holes caused by the corossion (rust). Looks like a female parked the car :D

You should look at using normal maps, rather than bump-maps. Or displacement, depends on which render and how it handles them.

Nice with some textures.

Think the windscreen needs some more work though. Would like to see it a bit more jagged and thicker. Also when a windscreen on a car breaks like that, almost the entire thing is shattered into pieces but sticks together from the material its build of.

Hmm,. yeah,. i think the car is over detailed as it is, it's going to be in the background where the mercedes is now gently parked..:D

no need for normalmapping in a high poly scene only build for one rendering, imo.

The car will be placed a bit back in the scene, so for the bump to have an effect it has to be a bit hard. grains must be a screen thing, the are clear on my screens, black with brown/gray dirt.

Coming along nicely.

Would perhaps like to see the Mercedes A Class in the background placed on the other side of the road, to split the composition. It is pretty much hidden behind the growing plant.

Also when it is placed on the same side as the Audi, it seems much as they have the same placement. Leaning up the wall, add a little diversity =)

As mentioned above, hopefully the Notre texture will be a little roughed up. It looks very bright in the scene.

Looking forward to next update =)

Thanks.
Yeah, i think Notre Dame is too bright as well
I will not be doing any bullet holes cause i want the destruction to have come from a single blow of an atomicbomb, Some destruction from flying debree maybe.
but yes i want to rough it up a bit.
I think some of the brightness is due ot the GI.

awesome artwork you got here.

Thanks:thumbsup:

Unbelievable work.

I went through your entire thread and begin to imagine the amount of time youve put into this. I am speechless.

Your concept is superb and your execution so far is incredible. I simply cant wait to view this piece once its completed. :buttrock:

Thanks.
And yes some work was put in to it:scream: , he he
I still have some texturing of charactors and some debree to do.
but i will be working all the way to the deadline, still lots of posibilities in the scene.

Thanks.
The cars are on the same side of the road due to the blastwave, and the merc would not be visible on the other side of the road, it will bed covered by the charactors.

And yes the Notre Dame will be roughed up and darkened a bit.

Hopefully i will have Notre Dame, sidewalks and some of the forground debree done later today/night.

i would like to see the audi "pressed" more against the pillar, atm it looks like it barely touches.

The audi is actually bending around the corner og the building and is pressed a bit into the corner.
i will render an arial view if i get the time.

Looking ace, Danny

My only gripe would be (as pointed out by Lemog) that the Notre Dame stands out a bit compared to the other buildings due to its relative cleanness... Otherwise it's really looking great, and the overall concept is so very clear and clever.

Hi Danny

First of all, congratulations, I'm quite a fan of your other works and I just love this idea. The textures are really awesome and the modelling is top notch (the right broken wall in the foreground is really great  )

Now I'm posting here for one particular reason: the french pov about Notre-Dame eheh. I'm living in Paris and I see this building quite often, and the first thought that came across my mind when I saw yours is: 'Ouch! It's soooo small :D'. Honestly, compared to the size of your scene, the real Notre-Dame would be, let's say, 2x bigger.
Well, I sure this is not a real problem, but I just wanted you to know.

Keep it up

Thank you very much!
Nice to know!  :wavey:

I have been trying to meshure the Notre Dame out from pictures and it's very dificult to see how large it is, i have only seen it 2 or 3 times in reel life, I'll try to make it larger maybe put it further away in the scene and hopefully not drop of the small island, what is important to me is to make an impression of something horrible by giving people an environ to relate to, like "i know this place, oh my god" and then have the scene happen there.
I picked Paris and Notre Dame of two reasons 1. wonderfull city 2. everybody knows Notre Dame.

I work a bit with a new hight and the compositing wich i just as important.

Thanks a lot for good local info!

This is what I'm looking at.
The Notre Dame is actualy rather large, it just seams small because it's in the distance, some dof or fog in one of the passes will hopefully take care of that.

I hope you didn't lose time because of my remark, but maybe some fog / a bigger feeling of distance should close the deal

Here are the dimensions (in case you didn't know them already )
it's 130m long, 48m large and 35m high, the main pillars are 5m large and the towers are 69m in height.

Pretty spanking good-looking scene assembly

Just one thing ( :D ) - it seems to me the overall colouring tends a bit towards the monotonous with everything being gray-brownish, and there's maybe a slight risk you might end up losing some readability because of this. Of course, we haven't seen it completed yet, so I might be premature in this observation... but anyway, just something to keep in mind perhaps

the modeling/texturing/composittion are generally very good.
but
without good lighting it all goes to waste !
the light setup you currently have is waay too flat. alot of details are wasted because of that and thats really too bad cause you did a great job so far !

2 quick suggestions ya might wanna try when working on the lighting (which I really think should be soon ) -

1. get an occlusion pass and apply it (mainly as multiply but also as overlay with some local PS work) to see how it makes the details stand out more.

2. try to have more dark areas in your scene.
I think currently the biggest lighting problam and the reason its a bit flat is because everything is more or less lighted equally (from every angle). when I make asjustments, try to get the building behind the flower very un-contrastic so the flower won't get "swallowed in it"

good luck
