A bit more light on the robot,.
I'm not sure i wanna go with the black color, hmmm,. It just looks too dark.
I'm just up to my neck in work now,
sooo later.

Great work, i was hoping for this. Are you already think about the her pose? Maybe a bit dynamic, no? I think that with adjustments on the lights will be so better, i'm sure. But, now is very good. Keep going, almost there. Congrats :applause:
Thanks!
Yeah i better get started on the light.
I think the doctor (when he is done) hopefully will have the final impact on the comp.
Great, textures... I agreee w stormknight...
Looking better and better...
Thanks.
I'll have a look at the light soon.
Pretty spanking good-looking scene assembly
Just one thing ( :D ) - it seems to me the overall colouring tends a bit towards the monotonous with everything being gray-brownish, and there's maybe a slight risk you might end up losing some readability because of this. Of course, we haven't seen it completed yet, so I might be premature in this observation... but anyway, just something to keep in mind perhaps
.
Thanks!
I'll try to darken the building behind the flower, hopefully that will help to bring some dept to the scene,
I'm also thinkung about dof and a faint volumelight.
the modeling/texturing/composittion are generally very good.
but
without good lighting it all goes to waste !
the light setup you currently have is waay too flat. alot of details are wasted because of that and thats really too bad cause you did a great job so far !
2 quick suggestions ya might wanna try when working on the lighting (which I really think should be soon ) -
1. get an occlusion pass and apply it (mainly as multiply but also as overlay with some local PS work) to see how it makes the details stand out more.
2. try to have more dark areas in your scene.
I think currently the biggest lighting problam and the reason its a bit flat is because everything is more or less lighted equally (from every angle). when I make asjustments, try to get the building behind the flower very un-contrastic so the flower won't get "swallowed in it"
good luck
Thanks!
I'm giving FinalRender stage1 a try on this challange,
and i need to figure out how to get more depth in the scene.
But a lot can be done in PS ofcause.
I'll try to get som more softshadow dark areas, i think I'll try another aa filter aswell.
Really nice job.
But i can tell you there are not these bulidings around Notre Dame ;)
I cant wait to see the final result
Thanks.
He he, I know, I'm just using Nothe Dame as something in the scene that all people can relate to, just to get a more understandable image of the horror of global destruction.

Just messing around in PS, trying to get some depth while the other computer is working for a living,.
it seems a lot can be quickly done just by using some dif(ish) effect and darkening some areas.
click the image, easier to see what is going on,..

Lot's of great updates since I last saw this!
Yup, I think the DoF can add a lot to the scene - and perhaps some dust blurring the more distant areas?

 Alan and Gunilla, thanks,.
I think I'll do as many passes as i posibly can once the scene is done.
DOF, Fog, Volume light, glow and some PS playing around.

Great modeling and texturing, the buildings really looks trashed and old.. good job!, you should remove or at least reduce a dof in the last image, It's too much of it I think

I'll have to remodel the houde behind the camera again! grrrr
I now need to do:
Debree
Chain from the doctors hand to the robot
Retexturing the building behind the flower
renderpass with sky
renderpass with fog
renderpass with volumelight
postrender compositing

Well dos is in the scene, but he still looks a bit dark, i better make the textures brighter or add some underground omni light.

Some debree and the chain from the doc to the robot.
Forground still looks a bit messy. I'll have to work some more on that.
Also i need more debree in the back ground,.
But modeling and texturing is close to be done, and soon I can get to the render passes and post process,.
10 days, I can do it!

Hey its finally coming together. I'm having a bit of trouble judging how big the robot is. He seems huge, then I see the chain connecting it to the man, and it doesn't seem so big anymore. Just something I noticed. Not anything bad just and observation.
I think the flower would read better in the scene if everything were dreary in the shot other than it. You could make the sky gloomy and have the scene be darker, almost a night, You could maybe move the robot a tad and have the flower be illuminated by lights coming from the robots eyes or something. Just some fun suggestions. From the concept I just imagined this scene really dark and gloomy, almost post apocolyptic. Which seems to be the case judging by the surroundings, I just imagined the apocolypse to be a bit less sunny.:)
This is looking fanstastic. You have plenty of time.

Hi Danny, great update again. No crits to me, just only thing that you can correct with photoshop, perphaps a bit of the contrast on the robot or on the building behind her. Just opinion. Congrats mate :applause:

Yeah i can se what you meen and I'm coming to that shortly.
I have not started on the lighting yet and the sky is temp.
about the light on the flower, I'm planing on a faint volume light.
For depth I will use a bit of fog.

I have been working on the sky and have come to this point.
The image is a photo og mine taken with my canon eos 350.
I have changed the colors with PS render light effect and an orange tone, this is hopefully more morning than the midday colors i have been using so far.
My render computer is now boiling up a test render og more contrasted light in the scene, but It's taking forever just to make a small crop, grrrr.

Hey man, maybe your new light rig would help but some large pieces of debris seem a bit odd with the sharp edges. Like the last picture you posted, the concrete block on the bottom has sharp edges but the texture looks rough; maybe you can paint some roughness on the edges in photoshop.

Yo Snow!
I agree on debree!
He he, it rimes.
The debree sucks right now, I'll take the time tomorrow to make it better.
Also i wanna use some scatter of small fragments.

I'm going with some fog and some volume light in 3 passes and put them into PS.
that will hope fully give some depth.
Also I have been vorking an some new light settings today, a lot better i think.
but still the final result will be with 3 layers og lighting.
maybe the doctors hand should be behind the flower to give it more contrast?
Hi Mumle.
Hmm, I like the post as it is now, I think the hand interacting with the flower will create more confution to the image than nessesary.
thanks for the feedback.

I'm trying out some new colors for the lighting, more morningish (i hope)
Right now I'm rendering a fog layer just for testing the two layers together, I'll upload it sometime later.
The debree is not done yet, right now i hate it and want to do some new blocks.
Plan for tomorrow:
Model rats
Model flying crows
Model New debree
Try out som scattering on small debree
Test renderlayers
Nighty night.

This is looking really good now! The flower seems to get a bit lost though - perhaps giving it some glow or something to make it pop out more would be good? The morning light seems to be the right way to go, great work - just keep going

Hey Danny, looks great!!
As I mentioned I would love to see a more toxic environment, giving it a bit more sombre feel in the air. Would be a perfect fit with the ray of light hitting the flower, to symbolize the return of life :applause::bounce:
Will be quite a task to achieve this polluted air, without loosing too many details on the many hours put into the modelling, which would be a shame
Nice addition with the chain on the robot, but somehow it seems strange. Having a high tech robot that is probably extraordinary strong and with an artificial intelligence and programmed to serve its master. Then to have him control it with a chain seems a little more fantasy like, but wouldnt know how to symbolize it in the "future"
The bird sitting close seems very calm, taking in mind that the world is probably not very inhabited, it doesnt seem to care that a human and huge robot is moving right next to it. But maybe it is just too curious :scream:
Good luck with the endless hours of rendering

I totaly agree with "morphar", we must feel and see the toxic atmosphere... we must feel its color, its density, its heaviness... and that permit you to have a better contrast for the important part of your creation...

______ Quote from first post _________________
The scene takes place on that April morning.
For decades people have been living underground to get away from the radiation some alone and some in clans.
The good Dr. Warless has been living lots of places underground in most of Europe, alone with his pet Robot, who he has come to love as his only friend or dog, depending on radiation.
Dr. Warless has partly lost his mind in the search for both survival and a sign, that once again nature will rise from the cold devastating grave mankind had to offer.
As Dr. Warless is scavenging the streets of Paris, he is paralyzed by the sight of something he barely remembers, fighting it’s way through the cold asphalt, the sign of a new beginning…
LIFE
________________________________________
Soooo...
The Doctor is loosing it after 20 to 30 years of radiation and living alone with hes "pet".
The scene will not be oozing with toxic so many years after the blast, wich it why nature is starting up "a new beginning"
The bird in the front was a test to create some foreground but i liked it, if the bird is not used to people it will have no reson to fear them..
maybe toxic steam from the sewers?
Yeah, would be cool, I'll see if i can make in time.

I normaly just use omnis and scanline for rendering, but desided on using Final Render,
cause it´s got a nice GI and is normally very fast and easy to use.

I hope you can keep the last flower alive.
with sun light and a bit of warter it will work out.
This is the the first flower though, plant life on earth is gone, this is the fist plant in the world after total nuclear destruction.
Greate idea U have here!:applause: Waiting for final!
Thanks.
So am i, he he.:argh:

The annihilation after the nuclear war was all most total.
Very few survived the blastwave and the heat. Among those who survived, most died from suffocation or radiation.
The whole planed was wounded deeply, life as we know it ceased to exist and the ecosystem damaged beyond believe, making survival close to impossible for the very few survivors.
Without plants and animals, except from rats and a few species of birds, all that was left was Hell on earth.
Supply of water and air is short, coursing the survivors to scavenge the planet for what ever they can find.
A time where all hope is lost!
The change towards a better world started on an April morning, it was a small change, but in it's own way it was spectacular.
The scene takes place on that April morning in the streets of Paris.
For decades people have been living underground to get away from the radiation, some alone and some in clans.
The good Dr. Warless has been living lots of places underground in most of Europe, alone with his pet Robot, who he has come to love as his only friend or dog, depending on radiation.
Dr. Warless has partly lost his mind in the search for both food, air and water and a sign, that once again nature will rise from the cold devastating grave mankind had to offer it.
As Dr. Warless is scavenging the streets of Paris, he is paralyzed by the sight of something he barely remembers, fighting it’s way through the cold asphalt, the sign of a new beginning…
LIFE ON EARTH!

Hey Danny, big congratulations on finishing the scenary for the deadline and i hope your pcs didnt overheat during the loooooooong renders ;D
Best of wishes with the judges, i hope you will not put the scene on the shelfes just yet.
Know you didnt wanna do it for the entry, but would love to see it with a lot more gloomy feel to it.
Some green toxic haze floating around, and s beam of light hitting the dear doctor and the flower...or maybe jsut the flower not sure :P
But very very nice job on the scene, been a pleasure following it through the progress.
May the best entry win!
