hi everyone :)
This is a short film i created within a month for the "2minFilmClub:the fight". It was completed between work hours so alot of corners had to be cut. To compensate i used alot of faking techniques like locked off camera, faked global illumination, faked occlusion, pop-through animation and a whole heap of patch-ups at the compositing stage.

to see a whole range of wip's including storyboards, character turn-arounds, texture maps and a complete breakdown of a shot (40 images) visist my wip thread at :

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=271956&page=1&pp=15

sofware used
3d :maya

compositing : after effects

cloth : maya cloth

paint : photoshop

sound : premiere pro

completed on a dual 1.8 AMD with 1 gig of ram and a 128 dual head nVidia

cc welcome :)

Don't take this the wrong way man...but I have absolutely no idea what just happened.

Also....when starting a topic, please don't alternate with small letters and capitals :)

As comicbook guy would say; "Worst film ever!"

Yeah dude, I'd watch something with a plot. Something very formulaic like a James Cameron or jerry Bruckheimer film. Steal it and change the circumstances just a tad so you don't get sued. ( allah Point break / fast and the furious)
Just so you can get a plot people can follow.

this was never meant to be an easy to watch, 3 plot point, traditional animated film. it is meant to be something a little different, not so easily packaged for viewer consumption. And as was stated previously, alot of corners had to be cut to create this within a month.

Thank you all for the comments though, although i'm going to change 'all crits welcome' to 'only constructive crits' because telling me i should have made an animated "point break" within a month that goes for 2 minutes is plain ridiculous (although the "learn from how others do it" is great advice).

cheers :)

hey man...its not that we want a forumulative 3-point story or anything...it's just that we want....something! As I watched this I found that there was basically no coherance and the visual narrative was really weak (hence me wondering "what just happened").

If you want to tell a story of any type (unless you're David Lynch), you need to have some kind of sense to it!

I liked that cloth though! (seriously...it looked good)

personally i very much enjoyed this film. the visual look was fantastic and it was most certainly different! and within a month too, i'd imagine that wasn't an easy task by any means. very comprehensive wip's on ur "wip thread" aswell.

great job!

i look foward to seeing more work of yours in the future.

thanks for the comments ivanisavich, i enjoy your work and ur cc means alot to me. cheers also to bloggo_12, glad to hear u enjoyed it :)

funny to mention David Lynch as he is one of my favorites. along with Luis Bu˝uel, manray and early Kubrick.

i may be way off base here but in my opinion i would imagine someone like bunuel would desire a "what the hell was that supposed to be?" reaction (not that i am placing myself in their company by any measure!). The conflict of intrest is too high for me to have any kind of honest gauge for this film, but i think its still valid as a point. my honest opinion is that a film (or any form of art for that matter) should be valued on what it is, not on what the viewer thinks it should have been (unless that was the artists intension). once again this comment could be completely off base to whats being said here, but its a thought none the less.

i can't believe nobody's commented on the sound

azozel : i'll take the compliment, thankyou :)

try going to the bottom of the linked page and clicking on "free" at the bottom. Another page will load, wait for the download ticket to count down and then click and download the file. Sorry for the complication but i sinply didn;t have the time to find a better host.

hope u enjoy it :)

I quite like the absurdness from the hands playing ball and the barscene with the hand vomiting and the waiter with his cloth etc, but after the wine is splashing arround I am lost as well.

The hands movement could have been a bit more varied, but I guess it works up untill a certain limit. I quite like the hands shading and the overall lighting and rendering. It would be nice to see where it would have gotten if you would have had three months in stead of one.

Cheers,
