Good luck! Great concept sketch.
Just what I've done so far today on the head. Ok so I know this looks NOTHING like my concept sketch. I'm trying to decide if I want it to be super cute or not. This is NOT the super cute version. :scream:
weeeeee! finished the fro, i through some eyeball textures in there for now cause the white eyes were too freaky.

now this...this I love.:buttrock:
wow a tutorial? if i had time I would love to. Im doing good to have done all this already! ;)
Man I'm not THAT old, those wrinkles in the picture are from a very very close game of chinese checkers with my girlfriend (ok so she slaughtered me, i had no chance of winning). I was in deep thought when she took that picture. :p

Looks good! Comparing to your concept sketch, though, you might want to try thinning out the lips. Also, the upper and outer corner of the eye looks a little off. Nice and quick, though, good work! Way to get this challenge started!

I think you should at least give the super cute version a shot, might make this model even stronger. Good, fast work! (said enviously...)
added my glasses! I thinned the lips a little and messed around with the eyes, but I really like the box look i have with them...so i dunno if im gonna change that yet.

Here's what the shape of the body will be!

Very cool. I can definitely see a resemblance in the face and your photo. Nice job!

Excellent modelling and sketches
Dig the 'fro as well :D
really? Thanks I was starting to think there was no resemblance. I know my hair isnt exactly that perfect, but I'm clueless as to how I can model my curly hair without going insane.
This is a pic i took of my glasses, so you can see they are real :) And you're right. They are cool as hell lol

I love that sketch of yourself! hehe its wicked.
I think the face model and glasses rock too. But i wanna see the hair kick as much ass in the model as it does in the drawing. Especially that size. Make it fekin HUGE! hehe
update!

great caricature of yourself, the important shape of Ur true face are well represented :applause:
even if you're not too old I agree hellrender, it surely looks better if U make some light wrinkles on your front :)
bigger is better. :scream:
I will work on the forehead wrinkles later today and see what they look like. :wip:

It's really coming together well! I like the head a lot. :D
The only thing I can see, would maybe be the hands. At the current angle, they kinda look a little thin to me. Of course, this is a 'toon version, though, so that could be just fine. :)
Keep it up!
I agree they are a little thin, even if i am a bony guy, so i'm gonna redo them :) But Im working on the pants now, bellbottoms are so much more fun to model than hands
update!
made some nice pink pants! and a super keen belt cowboy belt buckle
added shoes. Im dreading modeling the hands...they've never been much fun.

Nice one man :) looks funky! dis guy gunna have a date? Are yah gunna give him the JIVE walk? lol keep t up man :) looking good!
hmmm a date is a good idea...but modeling and rigging ANOTHER character...sheesh! Lol yeah a jivewalk would be great if I ever get around to animating this guy. I've never skinned or animated a character before so this'll be interesting.
I think i'm going to stick with the hands I showed earlier but just thicken them a little, and maybe make them bigger. Update in a few minutes :)

The hands look great, but the fingers look a bit long.. Maybe it's the angles the shots are showing.
I think its just the angle and the lighting that make the fingers look like they are starting farther back torward the wrist, heres some close ups with wires

That's one head of hair there................Looking fun and interesting Rye............I do think a bit more detailing along with some added scale to the hands will be for the better. I really like this original character thus far..........keep it up,looks good. And you got time, give him a young beauty.;)
Fine job.................

Awesome style man, I love it!!
Well lets see...I dont really do anything interesting lol, im depressed now cause I realized all my hobbies are boring! ;) jk I have a few ideas, but I am open to suggestions! I might not use your suggestion lol but it will help my brain to get going! So fire away!
Virtuoso: Yes my hair is sometimes more of a curse than a blessing ;) The hands IMO are actually over detailed for sucha simple model, you think they need MORE detail? Explain where you would add it :) I tried making the hands bigger but to me it just made him look clumsy, but thank you for the input none the less.
Chad-D thanks! btw your avatar makes me smile everytime i see it, its hillarious!
pogo sticking?
go cart racing?
dancing?
playing connect 4!
sitting in traffic?
coming in late to work?
selling stolen stereo equipment out of a van?

PLAYING CONNECT 4!!!:applause:
or dancing because it fits the character style.
How about instead of Connect 4 your playing Clue: Master Detecive.

Do Connect 4 with a really cheesy excited expression on his face ;)
Virtuoso
11-11-2002, 05:51 AM
Hi Rye................Actually what I meant was that with some more details or accesseries, attachments, not that your hands needed more attention. I think they are fine as they are,the detail is at a good level. But only a slight scale in overall size perhaps is needed, just a slight scale at that,no big deal.
All in all it is shaping up to be quite fun looking and interesting,a nice job I think.I am enjoying it quite well, keep up the good work,I'll be back later after your next update........:applause:

Dancing is what you hearcut says.. but that is to easy
I would go for pogo stick playing, but why don't you do playing connect and pogostick they don't require that much background. Then I c you are a master in moddeling so do them all!:bounce:
KingMob
11-11-2002, 02:35 PM
I think you should do playing connect 4, but with an insanely serious look of a chess player, plotting your next move.
or I would go with selling used stereo equipment out of a van.
looks good man!

did you watch the simpsons last night?
Disco stu said he does not even like disco, and that it was all he talked about for so long, he worried people would think of him as a one note character, I laughed on into the night.
pretty funny stuff.
chad D: clue huh? maybe I could be a clue character! It was Rye in the ballroom with the hair pick!
TMortan: hillarious, im suprised I've never been in a fight lol
Ingram: No way I thought I was the only one who still played that game!
Virtuoso: Ah ok! I see what you are saying. Unfortunately I left the model at home, so I won't be working on it today, but I'm workign on concept sketches for my hobby : ) Man...we really have nothing to do at work lol
Iguiniz: Hey thanks for the confidence boost! I agree dancing just inst clever enough.
King: Bah i missed the simpsons!
Eugene: Ummm...wow I hope I dont really look like that!
Well Thanks for all your suggestions, but I just had a brilliant idea this morning! I wont say what it is, but it has something to do with my irishness and leprechauns! I'll post my sketches later tonight.
okie doke so heres some ideas for my leprechauns, i think i like the bottom right the best, whadda ya think?

heh all joking aside...
I like the one on the right bottom, but they are all cool...
Maybe a mix eh?

That fro is mighty sexy....it looks so coushy and soft!!
I say the bottom right hand drawing would be the best. You've got amazing art abilities. Your ROCKIN IT!
rigging rigging its not fun. This is my 3rd time setting up a rig (1st time without using the model from the 3dsmax tutorial) so it is still very very slow going. But heres what i have so far, just the arms and the head left! WAHHAHAHAHA!

UPDATE???
common where is it...give us the goods!!!
lol man im trying, believe me i am! Rigging is a BIG HUGE pain in the butt. This is really my first time with it so its taking a long time, I'm just having ajor issues with just about every single joint on the body. Also just got motivated to finally work on my website :D, but im still working on the challenge, nothing else to do at work anyway haha.

who would bother to rig with max bonez
People who can't afford it, but hey gimme 1500 dollars and I'll be all over character studio ;) jk...i dont mind doing it with max, it'll be good to know how to do it the hard way so i understand it more. Wish i could work on it now, but my new comp is busted so i cant really do anything. :(
btw what do you mean smooth or rigid? i dont remember seeing that option in max5...maybe i just wasnt looking for it. DOH
ok, welp i dont really remember what everyone posted...:( but heres my updates in order
