Hello I`m new to the forum and relatively to 3dsMax too, I know there is some threads already talking about this topic but none covers up my the issues that i`m experiencing with my hardware-software confg. now, I also checked about pro and gamer cards and i know that ATi cards works (Radeon 9800pro)`better` on D3D mode rather than Opengl, well now , when I switch to "soft selection" mode the wireframe turns blue showing some kind of thermal vision on the object parting from the vertex or vertices selected , well , this doesn`t happen on opengl mode just the vertices are lighten up but not the edges so it makes kinda hard to know what the Soft selection it`s going to do , i also noticed that in D3D mode it turns the wireframe blue but the color grading it`s not right at all , in Software render , the one that i`ve choose to debug the issues i`ve noticed that the transition it`s smooth and correct.I`d like to post pics about the issue to have a better explaining of it but this is my first post so i`ve not that privilege now.

another issue that i`ve experienced now with D3D is the 2-sided prob since i switched from Opengl , my 2-sided options works no more.

for beginners this can be some kind fustrating so any hints that you can point me out are very apprecciated, thats all for now

TIA,
GFXCOR3.

p.d: I`m also working on a dual-monitor setup , is there any performance hit when doing so?

Discreet/Autodesk haven't touched the OpenGL renderer in quite a while so avoid it if possible (altough I have noticed that buggy or not OpenGL is faster).

As for your two-sided objects not rendering correctly just go into your Preferences...->Viewports->Configure Driver and switch the Use Cached D3D Meshes off, I know that my GeForce 4 TI doesn't like that option. If that doesn't work turn all the check boxes off in the Geometry box and turn them on one by one until it works properly.

I don't believe there would be a performance hit when using dual-monitors.

Nice tip Wahonney...

Do you know some problems with that option set to off?

Im using a FireGL card with OpenGL enabled, what i did to see the soft selection range is tat,
under editablePoly mode, soft selection group, under the soft selection graph, there is a button[Shaded face toggle] ... dont know if this will solve your problem.
