my favourite scenes of Dragon (hope it's the international title, too)
I.
Bruce(really set up, engaged in an argument with his wife):
"heeeya"
*accidentially smashes wardrobe*
II.
Producer in the street together with Bruce Lee, discussing "Kung-Fu":
"No, really, great idea, this..."
CUT
wife:"don't worry about the main character... I mean it will be called Kung-Fu.. who else on earth is supposed to play him?"
CUT
T.V.-set showing "KUNG-FU....starring....DAVID CARRADINE"
III.
cinema, "breakfast at Tiffany's", funny chinese mock-up on screen, audience is cracking up, his wife is nearly suffocating with laughter
CUT
Bruce, watching, not angry, bewildered...
CUT
his wife, watches him, watches screen, sees with his eyes, her laughter dies.
her: "Let's go..."
What a GREAT movie!

Hi everybody! I've reached this thread by chance and I see there a really funny spamming thread :D ! I've read a great part of it and it made me laugh sometimes.
However, I went there to present myself. So here I am, with my favorite gesture :

Rebeccak: Hehe, thank you very much for the compliment! Guess the humwee and the puppy on the pictures makes me bearable ;)
Actually been a member for a while, but have mostly been reading those nice tutors you find here and watching all those amazing pictures that people are posting. Not very many posts tough and even less work to show off. But thats about to change I hope, in fact I have already made an scull and posted it in your scull-thread ;)
Thought I was a hopeless case, do mostly webdesign. But I really do admire all those good artists and I would like to be able to do that. So I finally said to myself, the only thing thats stopping me is my will. So I have been reading useful tutorials on perspective, light, anatomy etc. And from now on I'll try to attend your tutorials and hope that practice makes perfect, even in my case ;)
Oh almost forgot, started out with some 3d hoping that it will help me understand perspectives, lightning etc when working in 2d. Here are two pictures of my (first) model. (i started on a audi a6 but didnt do more than the rough shape).

dunkergold: sie bist sehr shöön :P (hehe, looking good was what I aimed for)
about the puppy, he has grown a lot since that picture was taken (this summer) so spike is about 6 months now. Here are a couple of pictures if you are intressted.
The cutest thing ;)

Actually, its strange how he still feels like a little puppy, its now when I look at the old pictures that I realise how much he has grown. But his personality is still the same, still runs around making me laugh at his sillyness.

NoShame, thank you for the super nice words ~ I greatly appreciate them. :) I think it's funny that you say that you are a hopeless case, as, judging from your skull rendering, that's quite clearly not true at all! :) Your WIP looks great, and I hope you will be able to finish it one day. Ok, so I have a confession...I have a gynormous desk and an incredible BOXX, the latter of which was kindly provided by Sir Ed Caracappa of BOXX Technologies (http://www.boxxtech.com/). (Ed's also a frequenter of CGTalk).
When Ed learned that my previous computer was crappola (pictured earlier in this thread) he kindly stepped forward to lend a hand in the form of an incredible gift ~ a souped up BOXX computer with enough RAM and graphics card power to effectively put my former cpu to shame.
Massive thanks to Ed, and to BOXX for their kind support. :bowdown:And Ed, I know this thank you comes belatedly, and I shouldn't have waited as long to publicly thank you.
Ok, from previous pics you guys have seen that my former 'desk' was a Staples table :D and an ick computer circa 2003. Following my first Workshop, I decided I wanted a real desk with, get this, drawers, and so I splurged a bit and bought this:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b380/rebeccak5/Photos/desk-01.jpg
Prior to my Workshop, Figuratively Speaking, this is what things looked like ~ let's just say the new BOXX enables me to work about 10X faster. ;) Things are still looking pretty clean here... :D
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b380/rebeccak5/Photos/desk-02.jpg
Well, my desk takes up my living room...I have my priorites straight! :)
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b380/rebeccak5/Photos/desk-03.jpg
Here is the setup a little while later, notice that books have begun to multiply steadily...
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b380/rebeccak5/Photos/desk-04.jpg
Once again, huge thanks to Ed Caracappa of BOXX (http://www.boxxtech.com/) for an amazing sponsorship. I'm pretty spoiled with this new machine and I can't thank him enough. :)
Cheers,
~Rebeccak

I've recently just started to learn cg and I am dabbling with Alias sketchbook pro and 3dmax. However, for now it is just a hobby due to the fact that my full time job consumes so much of my time. This allows me a place to go to unwind.

Wow cool thread. Love all the pesting around. I thought i'd post some too.
OK. at the moment i only have a photo of myself in a pretty Evil form. Don't worry i'm a nice guy. The occasion called for an Evil face. Who am i to refuse :)
I'm 23 years old, Hobby artist (depends on your definision of Artist). I like to draw very much and am doing as much as possible Anatomy drawings (from Photos and life). I'd like to so something in the comic book world so i'm pointing myself in that direction.
I never went to art school but am considering it very much lately. We'll see.
Keep up posting those cool photo's guys, we definitely can use some as ref.

If it's like super slow, your L2 cache of the CPU can be broken (But if that's the case the computer is like really, really slow)!
Other then that, you could check your memory too.
I personally would never buy a Dell computer. i don't know if that may be the problem. I'm all for building it myself.
Good luck.

I've already show my work space at home, now, it's me at work... not working, but during a kind of show, for a "open doors" (I don't know if it's the good words in english), meeting with clients and partners... with projection on the wall of the large 3d demo of our skills...

Ones artistic technique/talent is the most precious thing one can have (and from what I've seen you've got loads of...)
all the rest is just... stuff. (most of it is old stuff too..)
Indeed "stuff" helps, makes life easier, and gets things done faster, but won't ever make one a good artist if there is no backbone to start with.
I like to change things around every so often, otherwise I feel stuck:D, and holiday season is the right time to play geek...

Wow, Evanfotis. I'm envious of your setup, real nice. If you ever want to get rid of one of those Wacom's let me know ;)
Since you have a variety of tablets, which do you find is the best to use? Do you use the small one for quick slap on painting and the larger ones for more detailed work?

Originally (a million years ago) I got the 12x12 Intuos to match my 21' monitor. After all these years, it still rules...
Then the graphires came in, for a second pc, and then my ex Fujitsu, lappy, and worked well if I didn't need the precison for drawing faces for example. New Sager laptop this summer, so got the I3 wide to match. It really works nice with the wide 17', and its a beauty...
Now each graphire is dedicated to one of the 19' monitors.
So baically for drawing here I use the 12x12. When I'm on the go, Itake the 6x11 with my lappy. When I have some assistant, I give' em the smallies:twisted: ...
But still, my fav is the big ole one..
Even the mouse in the old intuos is so much more well built & functional than the new I3 one which feels cheap compared even to the older graphire ones...

Thanks Evan! The Aeron is great. I definitely love it. It's pretty comfortable to work with a Cintiq, but the tilt does make judging colors / values a bit tricky. There's a bit of a tradeoff - I definitely enjoy sketching on the Cintiq more than a standard tablet, but there are definitely benefits to a standard tablet as well. I posted some comments about the Cintiq overall here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=4374359&postcount=794). :)
Womball, this shot is from my school's media lab - there's some audio done in the lab but I think the proofing is just there because stuff gets rearranged all the time. It's never really served any purpose, the dividers in the space don't reach to the ceiling. ;)
Heya Ed! I'm kind of undecided. I'd like to head down maybe for a day or two. I'll definitely try to catch up with you at the BOXX booth if I can make it! :) Any hints on your big giveaway this year? A chopper is sort of hard to beat. ;)
Cheers

Hey Rebeccak (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=148587)! can you plz tell me what its like to be working on thw cintiq compared to the wacom? I do understand there are some issues, what are they? does it lack the precision? There are now powerbooks that are built like drawing pads.
Thats what I want.
like a portable drawing pad with a strong battery.
check this out, I want this to be my future workstation http://www.axiotron.com/
but from what I read there not really replacing a wacom right now...
here is a pic... do I need to say it looks so sweet.
http://www.axiotron.com/fileadmin/user_upload/media/ModBook0107-001_HeroPorts-WEB.jpg
and then there is me and my workstation...
http://www.ikuru.se/box/me.jpg
A4 wacom, big ****ing laptop MAC (17inch), dead cheap samsung screen that works like a dream, a couple of ergonomic chairs (stokke, HÅG capisco), adjustble desk, egronomic flip flops, sring shelf, fostex monitor speakers, etc etc. pretty sweet huh?
(notice the cute litle guy up on the speaker? He looks nice but he's a total pervert.)
hey ikuru,
don't know much about these things, but from the link you posted I read that the mactablet has only 512 levels of pressure sensitivity which will definitely be a letdown for you considering that the intuos3 as well as the cintiq (IIRC) feature double the amount of pressure levels (1024)!
ikuru
05-29-2007, 03:02 PM
Yeah I guess, but it does look like a nice expencive toy, I dont really know how much one needs all thoes preasure levels but I guess they help.
Anyhow, I know there are a feaw of these kind of things out on the market. Things you can have in your pocket and draw on too.
If anone use them I would like to know.
The future is ofcourse digital and mobile.
I did actually use a casiopeia pocket pc back in 2002 with a trial of photogenics installed which featured layers and a bunch of drawing tools. I just googled it and the software seems to have improved by leaps and bounds by then.
Anyway, it was great fun indeed to paint with it, because the tip of the pen really touched the spots where the paint was applied, but back then there was only two levels of pressure (1 and 0...:D ), so you can work with 512 okay.
It's just that I think there are tablet pcs who feature more levels...probably at a lower price...:D

Your posting in the wrong thread dude, but just cuz its christmas Im gonne answer nevertheless that I have the syncmaster 205bw (samsung) its a 22in wide and Im real happy with it, theire Dead cheap like less than 300 euro, you could get a newer model now. considering what u pay for samsung compared to the price they have on thoes apple vision screens its a real treat.
I do have a minor issue with it on my mac setup, it goes black for a sec the first ten min of use sometimes and then it never does it again, but I guess the newer models dont have this hangup, even if they do its still worth it cuz it only does this once. (samsung is aware of this and dont give a shit witch is bad though) still I reccomend it.

Well, I am really bored, so I figured I'd throw up my workstation. I've kinda noticed that mine is much cleaner and neat than about 90% of you guys/gals out there haha.
http://www.grantmoore3d.com/crap/myRoom02.jpg
Left to Right
- Stereo system used as computer speakers (something from the 80s, but it works). Also of note, a 1990s professional turntable I got for super cheap at a yard sale.
- Vonage IP Phone, great for calling pretty much anywhere
- 24" Acer LCD *drools*
- MS wireless keybaord / Logitech MX1000 wireless mouse (not shown, Wacom tablet)
- Computer ( AMD 4800+ X2, 2 Gig RAM, Geforce 7800, other stuff)
- Wooden Rocking Chair I stole from my roommate, well... borrowed without permission
- My teddy bear I've had since as long as I can remember
http://www.grantmoore3d.com/crap/myRoom01.jpg
Left to Right
- Bed, for sleeping... not that I do much of that thanks to school
- Art on the wall, simple, but nice touch
- Dog : named Buddy, he's a Black Belguim Shepherd, only 10 months old in the picture
- Crappy Guitar on the wall (my good one is in the case!)
- Shelf : can't see, but it's full of art/3d/etc. books
- Traynor 80W Tube Amp
- Hidden in the closet : Render Server ( Compaq DL145 1U Rack Server with 2x dual core 2.2Ghz and 4Gb RAM... noisy as all hell and a power hog, but great when I need a render done quick as I can).
No picture of me right now, I'm far too lazy to set up the tripod and take one. Perhaps I'll model myself and post that... I think it would be easier, yes?
