Sadly Event Horizon is a direct rip-off of the russian movie this
remake is based on.

I didn't find event horizon to be very similar to Tarkovsky's Solaris (which appears to be my favourite science fiction movie right now).

Just interesting. Would be there a remake of the Stalker movie... another Tarkovsky fantastic movie based on Strugatsky brothers story.
By the way. Can anyone tell me does it worth to download the second Solaris trailer. Does it have other than space station and the ocean planet views?

It's a new trailer.. standard fare..
I personally don't find it interesting. It's sort of like the Insomnia "remake".. A movie already exists that's great, and then becomes Americanized.
I know Solaris is based on Lem's novel.. but I already find the Russian original to be fantastic and unique.. where this Hollywood version just looks banal and contrived.
In my opinion, not worth the download of the trailer.

First thing that made me think of was the movie Sphere with Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone and *forgot the name*...
Haven't read the book nor seen the old version, but I'm willing to bet a substantial amount of money on the fact that the book and old movie are better ;)

hmm..
do we see a trend here?
ring, akira, insomnia, solyaris, nattvakten, and so on..
actually.. solyaris is the only one that i feel the sligthest interest in seeing (in a new version). i found the original.. not that good. except for the scene where they drove through the city, i loved that.
i think that Stalker was way better and lets hope they will never rape that one, its one of my fav scifis..
heh, writing the script is the cheapest part of producing a movie..
and isnt it there where alomost every american movie fails?
makes one wonder :)

i can't believe they already unveiled the main discovery of the protagonists studies on solaris in that goddamn trailer !
how will they keep the whole thing's tension after that ?!

Every Hollywood trailer does that and they insult the intelligence of their audience every time they do it. But hey, maybe the average audience member isn't that smart anyways.

well, that's true to some degree, but in this special case it really kills the whole tension, because the development of the story's dramaturgy greatly depends on the process of discovering the mysteries of solaris.
i can't stress it enough : ppl, better read the book !

Hey, come on, it's a Hollywood remake, it's supposed to be a lame rip-off promoted toward half-wits who can't seem to come up with a descent creative thought for them selves.
People with even a slight interrest toward genres like these seek out the good movies them selves rather then wait for some dumbed down americanised (sorry folks, but it is, blame western commercialism, some how it's always the 'American' hero that saves the day) version.:annoyed:
Offcourse, when doing these remakes and gear it towards a 'large' audience, you have to cut it down a bit and make sure every-one (read, 'your average Joe') has had a good time watching the movie (the larger the audience the bigger the pile $$$.)
(btw. don't take the term americanised too personal. So no stupid flame wars)
