Hi all.
This is my first cgchallenge. I hope it will be a good occasion to learn, participate and watch fabulous things arround here.
It will be a lot of fun :)
Good luck to all!

One little girl and his brother are going to jump from a huge cliff. She is sure that the sunshade will let them fly, the boy isn't so much trustfull. The sunshade will be cartoon rendered and there will be some fantastic references. I will try to play with different contrasts

Time square, 9am. A spaceship crashed and a little alien is going out from it. The city is empty, there is nobody and no cars (like in the movie "vanilla sky").

One new building and some street things added.
I will continue the street but i'm not sure about the spaceship. Perhaps the spectacular element will change if I have a better idea.

Hi, thanks :)
I use maya and mental ray for rendering (with a bit of post-prod in photoshop).

For now the lighting consist of one directionnal light and a big sphere with a ramp shader for the final gathering.

Not much time last days, hope to have soon more time.
I changed the concept for a more spectacular one, a bit more "Hollywoodian". That's a really fast modelistion to see how things will be.
Hope you enjoy

Thanks for your comment :]. I also prefer the first idea but I think it's not spectacular enough.
I can improve the first concept... maybe a lot of alien crashing together on that city could be fun : )

Arf, now I don't know which one I will choose

Hi David, thanks for your visit on my thread.

This scene looks fine to me with the well balanced composition. That rotated angle of the cam fits well and generates an exciting view of the city. That rip goes well in this concept. Clean and understandeable. Right now the streets are lookin a bit calm for a disaster situation but its too early to say this. Keep it up mate. It's goin to be an awesome piece.

Hi,
For your idea, make a mix. Alien half and half big hole.
I don't know, ex: Aliens create the big hole...
We want to see the next...

Good Job

Nice modeling and Lighting, very realistic so far.
For the concept i think you should keep the ship and the crack in the ground. have the city be like one of the discovered Aztec or Mayan citys. Have some vegitation growing around the buildings, Like everyone just got up and vanished hundreds of years ago., maybe because of the crack in the ground... either way its looking very good. keep going!:)

this is a good concept of spectacular tragedy !
City is really a good work, maybe can you increase the feeling of brutal stoping of some cars.
anyway good job.

Here is a sample of one texture at real size. For the ground I choose to use lots of different uv's and different textures so I can easily use different texture resolution.

Thanks. For now they are all "hand-painted in photoshop", no picture used. Here is a sample of one texture at real size.

Thanks. Will add a lot of details later (differents cars, accidents, maybe peoples running, ...)
But for now I try to finish "global texturing" then it will be the time who will decide how much details I can add :)

hey mate.. really nice work there coming along well.. i really like the city well modelled and lit and the textures are pretty too :) .. one thing i can suggest but im sure youve thought of it is adding a shake and a little motion blur to the set to give the quake feel.. also i suggest maybe moving the lava up a bit higher .. and making the break alot more jagged.. atm it looks like a smooth bend into the ground as if its always been there. and its difficult to make out whats actually inside the hole where it gets closer to the camera it just looks dark.. get a bit more orange light in there to give that fire and brimstone feel :).. keep going man .. its looking great cant wait to see more:bounce:

First it's a great job. Impressive work.
I like the color tones and point of view.
But I think there's a probleme of comprehension. We don't really understand what is beside the hole. We can see yellow things but I don't see what it is really.
Waiting for next update.

Whoah David! Killer image so far mate... To me it all reads really well... well except the hole as is being said... I'd say you should really concentrate on enhancing its appearance and then, if you get time... hurt 1 or 2 of those pretty buildings a bit... Rock on man!

Hello,

I like your textures and modeling. But maybe make the "Day light" at 18h00. With a weak "Day light" you have a big hole more important. The big hole will have more impact.:curious:

Good continuation and good luck for the challenge.

I like details color lights everything except this blur. On some part it is good but in quarter down left it is too much. If U want this kind of blur then try zoom. U are pointing wiever's eye somewhere with this kind of effects but where? when it is like now I think U wanted to show us the lamp or empty place near it /There is the target of blur./ Is it important? All together :gr8. I like it. Good hunt.
