fixed in what sens works fine for me, there are some limitations but as long as you know what not to do it works perfeclty, what issue were you having with it?

If you could describe in more detail precisely what you want to do, I'll check it for you.

Also moves bones position at times. Should only move rotations see thread about this unique problem.

If you have a scene file that shows the problem I'd be happy to have a look at it.

thats a really old thread for one,and it also sounds liek they were doing making a user error. Motion retargeting works fine here and I use it with almost every rig I setup nowadays.
here is a simple example, tow simple reigs with different hierarchical setups even, I retarget the 3 bones on one side to the 3 of the four bones on the other side, and I move the skeletions seperate, runs just fine.
and from now on don't just read a discussion between two people and assume it must be right, try it yourself to see if it works.

Why would I post a problem if I did not try it out myself. I did try it out on a old number of old scene files over a year ago. I only pointed to the thread to show it was not only me
who had a problem. In addition Maxon confirm according to TCA that retargeting was not perfected as of that time. I am working with a different pipeline now because retargeting was not working if it is fixed now I will consider Cinema 4d in my workflow once again.
We'll need a sample scene otherwise consider that it was likely user error. Perhaps you didn't refix your bone chain correctly after altering it. Could be any of many things.

When I get chance i will see if I can find the files it was over a year ago I had this problem. Maybe TCA will post some answers to this post in the meantime.

there was one release since then that also changed some of retargetting, but honestly I"ve never had the issue they claim, its probably setup they are likely using hierarchy instead of names for linking which limits what you control as hierarchies have to be indentical.
As Michael ahs said twice now, send us a file and we'll let you know if your error is fixed or if your doing something wrong.
I realise I forgot my movie last post, http://www.kaithestuffguy.com/motionretargetting.mov
just an explanation, the bones are different lengths, and the bigger chain has an extra bone (third bone) which isn't retargetted by anything.

Hi. Yes at the time it didn't work as expected. I haven't tried now but will do.
And although user error is not totally uncommon from my side I first make shure that that is not the case before complaining. Maxon did confirm at the time that bones had problems with length and positioning.
My idea of using Retargeting was to use canned BVH files.
What I finally did was to use the same BVH file both as source and target. This way they where identical. I then changed the length of an arm and that arm still popped back to the wrong (old source) position.
I'd love to see this working so I'd -very- much would like to see an example.
I'll make a test again soon myself.
Cheers

I know the problem you describe-
--that has been taken care of in R9.1 already.
Retargeting was reworked then.

Just made a very quick test, and yes it looks as it is working as it should :)
That is I used two identical BVH files, changed some bone lengths and put some
NullBones in the Target so I could move the bones around.

Excellent, that's what we wanted to know!

Then please explain, as a Forum leader, why we should have a forum at all , if not discuss problems.
Of coarse every one should try their hardest to find things out themself, but there is a search function in forums and with that you get information and possible answers, before asking FAQ's. I cannot understand how you, in a similar manner, can assume someone is wrong without looking into matters closer.
Cheers

Glad you confirmed it was fixed TCA. I have not find my old files, but I am going to test it tonight. My previous workflow is similar to yours so I feel confident about your tests.
I just have to remember how my old files were structured since they had a lot of nulls in the rig.
