Hey guys, Lets see if I can actually Stay in this challenge.
So The Idea is a a Society of Nymph like creatures about the size of golf balls that lives within a special tree within a swamp. Basically it is this exctravacant tree with these small little window openings into rooms, and some of the winged nymphs buzzing around the tree. In a very dense swamp
I usually do some kind of Character concept, this time I feel that this contest is more about expressing a feeling and for that I think I need more of a kind of painting piece.

ace4016 - Thanks buddy, good luck on yours too.
gardogg - LOL Thanks buddy Never realised I was hard Core.......LOL
Claireabella - Thanks I will need with such great artists entered in this contest.
Mr Micro26 - Yeah, I always seem to try and involve a character in my contests, I figured i would stray away from that this time. I mean the best artist can portray a feeling with just a swipe of a brush.
Nomad - Thank you, We all strive for Originality, I am glad I reached this point.

Alright just started modeling the 3d version of this so far this is what I've got still along way to go with the fair city on the tree.
09-13-2005, 01:53 AM
Does anyone know the best way to add depth of field without adding about 15 hours to my render time:bounce:
09-13-2005, 03:09 AM
WOW! Your concept sketch was spectacular to begin with, and the modeling is looking good too. However, the stars makes it look like they are being seen through the water instead of being reflected off of it. I can't wait to see the final result!

Little update on the tree, still working the bugs out on the leaves and starting to work on the grass a bit
09-17-2005, 08:16 PM
Ok guys here is another update, Got the leaves right finally and now I am moving on to the City on the Tree................. and the Nymphs.
09-17-2005, 08:17 PM
A little update
09-17-2005, 09:01 PM
Nice work on the leaves, looks like a lot of work. Right now it seems you will barely be able to see the city. Are you planning to play with the composition a bit later one?
09-18-2005, 12:26 AM
Yeah I am thinking I am gonna workin it being in the leaves and on the base, Like lights in the leaves and stuff, I am defenately gonna see how the city looks on the tree first and then see where we go.
09-18-2005, 12:55 AM
Right now the compo doesn't look interesting because it is dead center, Maybe it is because you have cut off the tree at the top, you may want to change the camera apeture(may have spell this wrong) to where it is more portrait than landscapish, to help solve the problem, Play with the compo a little more this is looking to be a great image, good luck to ya! I will drp by lata to see what is goinz' on, holla!

Your original concept had the tree canopy much smaller than you have it in the model. I think you should scale it down as the proportions looked really good.
09-18-2005, 07:15 PM
Kinda Deveating from the concept I felt it need to to be a bit more lets say full in the backround, But I will try what beelow suggested and make the overall comp taller.
09-18-2005, 10:45 PM
cheating I am gonna bump here, but just because things get lost in the frey quickly.

Actually the server doesn't send notifications on the image upload post:p , so post after you uplaod images. I like how there is more in the scene now. I have to agree with mookid2005 about the leaves draping down so low. Also, being that this image should be within some realms of reality, how about making an explorer discoverying the scene or a small celebration with a light show? Just some silly suggestions. Keep it up.
09-20-2005, 01:45 PM
Alright I must thank all of you for your great advice, it was awesome, I have worked on the texture of the tree, and I think the image looks alot better with the backround blacked out like you said, I left the moon though because I feel it expresses alot more emotion below the treeline. I have also included another image with a longer perspective instead of a wider, Let Me know which one you like. Sorry about how dark the Images I will have some lightened ones tonight
