I'll certainly try... power to the loonies!!

Squibbit, come on man... I won't let you sacrifice your neighbour's cat just to let me win.
Thanks anyway buddy. :D (Oh, old squib just talked to me in Klingon (with a heavy Finnish accent I might add)).

Theresa, weeeeeeeeeeeeeh! I'll be watchin' you like a hawk!

Ace4016, pipichu, dunkelgold, keko, thanks friends! Good luck to you too.

----------

For this challenge I'd like to make something dynamic, fast moving, packed with action, a rollercoasterride... We'll see if I can pull it off. In retrospect, I really come to hate my last entries. They were all a bit rushed at the end. So, I'm planning to finish this one well before the deadline... (erm, yeah...)
I'll do some concept sketches tonight. Thanks folks.

Just an idea... don't kill me :D
I think I'm going to explore some Xtreme sports. I thought about doing a scifi concept, but I was afraid of falling back into cliches. Anyway here's my first idea, skateboarding on top of a building... I know diddly about skateboarding :)

Lovely clean colors!
Fantastique lines!
........but.... (don't you just hate that word? I know I do)

'once in a lifetime event'? Methinks they were hoping for something a little more extreme.

Like.....

Hi!
You should make the skater jump across a huuuuge roof-gap!! That could be done form a lot of cool angles ;)

Hey marlon now u put a lil ramp there that lifts the skater over that ledge from
the roof and up in the air beyond the building. Also there's be seen on the side
part of a bigger ramp the skater has just come down on the roof. Then, far in
the distance, on top of another building, the ramp the skater must land on, a
tall ramp that rises high in the air. The rooftops of the neighboring buildings
would be all full of cheering people and you could add police and media helicopters
and banners and whatever , too. Spectacular, huh ?

man that is really good start loving the choice of colors! Since this will be focused on the skateboarder, I would try to get a close shot of him maybe under him that would be so vicious to the point were you be like damn that crazy muddafuka! Do tha damn thing, i'll holla!

weslouie
09-08-2005, 07:55 AM
I like the playfullness of this image. It looks very childrens book-ish. Is he going to jump from that roof to another or something :) I know this is just and initial color sketch, but I would throw some atmosphere in there to knock back those buildings in the middleground and foreground because if you look at the dark values, they are all(foreground, middleground and background) pretty close....but nice start

Hey Art2,

good luck for the challenge!

good idea with the first sketch. Maybe I would change the perspective angle to increase the dramatic feel of the scene. A bit more from above to show how depth it goes. Or even a bit from below as if someone is watching the skater from his window. He could also make a big jump from one roof to the other.

i like the guys cheering out of the windows ... now if you combine this with a wider shot where u get a feeling for the huge gap he has to jump ... then it will get exciting :D

Hey marlon, looking good!

I'd give the sk8boarder more of a dynamic pose- crouching down more, arms balancing himself out and maybe just tilt the entire guy/board over a bit backwards, as if he's surfing or something more, rather than sailing through....

I expect another update before too long! :D

SoniaNotRed

Or have him like in one of those sports photos - upside down holding the skate while all the buildings and people around him are distorted by a fisheye lens effect.

Hey Marlon - we is both on the extreme sports! I'm liking the style of your sketches very much, the background figures doing the ramp are a nice addition and the background is shamelessly promotional in its excellence ;-) I'll pop back in later. Good luck.

Art2
09-14-2005, 09:36 AM
Soup, no not in USSR, but very nice idea!... that 'hammer and sickle' is a skateboarder doing a flip :D...

Theresa, dynamic pose, I'll see what I will do. My first intention is to let him do a 'cool' trick... add some humor... some ideas popping up here...

Avatarist, maybe I'll end up doing something completely different :)...
But for now I'll stick with the 'xtreme sports' idea...

Thanks for the support guys !

Btw. do any of you guys know how that urban sport is called where guys run around the city doing all sorts of crazy stunts and tricks? Maybe I'll explore that too.

daw
09-14-2005, 10:18 AM
"Le Parkour" I think...

Fahrija
09-14-2005, 12:08 PM
Very good idea but also very difficult to capture this within a scene to give it an interesting and spectacular feel. Maybe it could be good to get some reference material of interesting city environments and try out to add some of this "le parkour" action.

Totally different theme. It's a start of some ideas I have involving technology and the feeling of nostalgia. The thrill to revive lost and obsolete technology and get it working again.
This sketch is just a warm up. I'll do some more and try to capture the feeling of accomplishment and spectacular thrill. (eeek!)

I'm back!!
I definitely love the last sketch- it has a lot of vitality in it and the concept is great. Only change would be to the composition- I'd love to see the photographer's face when he sees the pterodactyl bearing down on him. Maybe use one of these skewed perspectives- same distance, looking up at the plane veering off and the pterodactyl coming down. Definitely something along the lines you're putting down at any rate!

Keep it going, Marlon!

wow, been a while since I worked on my entry...
2 more sketches, I better decide what to do...
First is a powerful mage/wizard creating a vortex, sweeping all attackers up in the air.
Second one, just some friends flying their Pteradactyls through some canyons.

elmasfeo

no more biplanes?

I'm still going for the biplane/pterodactyl idea-- in fact, you could use that perspective you used in the friends riding pterodactyls image for that image, just pull down a little so you can see the biplane and there you go!

It's going really well. I know how hard it is balancing 'real' work and fun stuff!! Keep it up, I'm a-watching you.......
