I had an idea of a large 'spectacular' tournament, with a crowd of thousands, I was thinking along the lines of an airborne contest, race of some sort or speed and skill based type of game with rocket packs airborne football etc. I felt that it was heading too close towards Harry Potter and Quidditch, so am now thinking of an alternative.
A huge stadium based on a spiral track. Two teams have to get their balls/pucks from the top to bottom in opposing directions. Think Rollerball meets ludo and snakes & ladders. There will be a number of balls on each team. Each team can capture an opponents ball with the aim of getting it in a cache through a specific hole in the floor. This will be fiercely defended/attacked by each team. The game ends when all balls are either captured and in goal for a team. Think snakes and ladders, there will be vacuum tubes in the track where a ball can be put to gain levels without circuiting the whole spiral. The teams will be large enough to have a few offensive and defensive strategies occuring at any one time. It will be fast and dangerous, serious injuries will befall the unwary. At the moment I am undecided whether to have players on skates, rocket skates, go-carts, on foot, on skates locked into rails or a mixture.
The sketch is very crude at the moment, It will probably be a circular spiral contracting at the top and bottom, suspended from a central tower that provides arc-lights and stadium seating, there will also be stands around the outside and for the lucky few I am trying to figure out a way of getting moving seats on the inside of the spiral that will track a given player or ball, so they will whizz up and down and around to get first hand experience of the frenetic pace and danger.
All comments and crits welcome.
Good luck to everyone, hopefully I will follow this through, having watched with great interest previous competitions I aim to get the work - life - competition balance to complete the image.
