Hey everybody!

I must admit I haven't really decided yet what I want to do for this challenge. I got some ideas about the elements and mood I want in the picture, but the story itself I'll still have to think about. The sketch I just submitted... well, I just started drawing something and ended up with this . It would have probably fit better for the grand space opera challenge than here :). I like the mood created by the color scheme, and also I'm sure i want some characters in the final version also. Just something a bit less cliche :)

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Here's another quick concept. This image actually has some story to it! :)

The picture is from a post climate change era with plenty of water and little land around. New cities are built offshore in these biodomes (The atmosphere is poisonous or something like that. I'll have to make it look hostile.). That's kinda spectacular, right? Amazing and scary at the same time. This is probably the idea i will go with in some form. I do want persons in there and some action also. I might try to get some of the mood and colors from my earlier sketch into this idea.

Ok, developing further the floating cities idea a bit more... Those domes are going to get dirty and will have to be cleaned up every once in a while. Hence we need to introduce the profession of the City Dome Window Washers :)

Ok, still sticking to the dome idea. I just couldn't get the cleaning lady idea working. I even tried another more interesting perspective but in the end the painting just looked really boring. From those trials this harbour idea eventually evolved.

The spectacular part in my entry is humanitys ability to adapt and survive. The future might not look that bright if the worst case scenarios come true, but we'll get through it, and life goes on, in some form.

I'd like getting some feedback on the idea, and also on what i got so far in the picture. :)

hm, either the upload didn't succeed or the image was too large... anyway, here it is again, a bit smaller this time.

You got a point there beelow. Maybe sunset colors in the sky and "artificial" lights in the harbour and buildings. Actually all over the place. I'll give that a shot. It should make the picture a lot more interesting, plus hiding things in darkness and just hinting at their exsistance makes painting a bit easier too. :D

Alrighty, i'm pretty happy with this now so i'm submitting it as my lineart milestone. I'll play with the lights and colors more later on.

Glad to hear you like it, sphair. I wont have a chanse to work on the image again before next week, but I got a pretty good idea how to progress from here.

- The view is going to be dropped a bit to center the ship more.

- The sky will have sunset colors, with clouds lit from side/below.

- The dome in the background will be made a lot bigger (it looks way too small now)

- Add lightsources in the harbour.

- The sea will be made darker also, except near the dome, where the harbour lights light up the water.

Well, that's the plan anyway :bounce:

Besides for the colors of the sky i've also made a few changes to the composition to make it all work a bit better. I'm a lot happier with this now than with the eariler versions. I'll be redoing the buildings in the harbour next. The sky and water also still need quite a lot of work.

Well, the whole image needs a lot of work... luckily that's the fun part :)
