hi all and good luck.

so..my picture will show a city beeing destroyed by a tsunami with tornados, fires and smoke in many places,snow...something like "the day after tomorrow".
the city will probably be made using camera mapping to make it look better and the atmospheric elements obviously particles.i'll post the reference photos soon

Hi Patrick,
This is something like I had in mind when I first heard spectacular, the view looking down on complex city . With your tsunami and tornadoes it will be great , hope it comes together well.

thanks ;-)

i'll need to made good models to be able to change the lightning and not just use a self illuminated material..but it will be camera mapping not a "standart" texturing

i know it's ugly but it's just to give an idea of the final picture.the red things are meteors falling on the city.the red thing on the bkgrd is a big one with the explosion.the black things are tornados

i finaly decided to change the renderer and just use the scanline renderer.only 4 lights in the scene.2 for the fire, one set up to 'amnient only" to fake gi (no need to make a dome light as the geometry is camera mapped),and onather one for the sun

ok here is the thing, i sure hope u havent uploaded the final tiff yet, cause this might really boost ur work, i see u rendered thr metrors and the smoke on a separate pass, now u can liquify the smoke in liquify filter in photoshop and reeeallly boost the realism cause its lookin too uniform as is

azaghot
11-15-2005, 10:34 AM
hum..ok i'll try this ,good idea:)

JamesMK
11-15-2005, 10:48 AM
Yep, looking good already, but with nebezial's suggestion to liven up the smoke a bit, it could be even better. Plenty of time left for such adjustments.

Good job done here!

agree with nebezial comment... and try to add some trasparency and dust on some area to give a more real depth sensation into explosions and smoke... :wip:

Oh, and just for reference: It's perfectly possible to upload the TIF several times too if necessary, only the last one is stored. So there's no problem even if you already had submitted it.

It's truning great. Like the debris. I think the smoke need more work to have less density.

MAN !
the houses are actually very well modeled and textured. the light setup is pretty good too !
BUT
the smoke reallllllly takes this image down :(
did you check the "self shadow" parameter ?
its just a bit too flat !
you stil got like 12 days. i realllllly suggest you try achieving better lighting on the smoke so that it casts shadows on itself. it could make this image 500% better (I am serius) !

dont worry about reuploading your image ...
I actually have alot more stuff left to do on my image !
those extra things we put in the last minute often make all the difference in the world !:wip:

btw, you dont have to re-render or evan re-edit stuff in PS !
just give all the geometry a matte-shadow material and render only the smoke.

I wish I had seen your WIPs sooner. Wonderful work, something I would have liked to try. I wished the dust clouds had some more specularity and shades--since the sun is casting shadows on all other objects. (I presume you just didn't have enough time.)
