09-06-2005, 06:54 PM
I have some ideas, but nothing too concrete yet. I'm deffinetly doing some sort of fantasy/steam punk world, im just not sure of the actual shot yet. just developing the world for now.

Nice sketches! :) can't wait to see what else you come up with :)
09-06-2005, 10:28 PM
So ive been working on some compositions and i kind of like this one. It will be a large city shot, people looking over the balcony in the forground, a train station down below, and an blimp docking port to the right.
basicly I'm going for a 'spectacular' environment, but im thinking that may be too weak a use of the topic. Most people will be doing massive explosions, daring acrobatics, and incradible crashes, so im afraid this may be too 'tame' a subject. Mabie i could draw a guy jumping from a roof top to a passing by blimp?
hmm.... not sure yet.
09-06-2005, 10:35 PM
i think futuristic cities aren't that *spectacular anymore cos they've been depicted so many times before, but i do like this image!
09-06-2005, 11:17 PM
hm, maybe you could use a radical perspective, viewing from a dynamic element within the scene to turn those tame city-env. more spectacular? Just an idea. :)
09-07-2005, 12:08 AM
ok, now it isnt just a prity city. I enlarged the shot and added a tiny figure jumping from the roof to a passing blimp. I kind of thought it would be cool if there were a fugative on the run from the police, and in his last cornered attempt for freedom he made a spectacular leap hoping to reach the passing vehicle.
I kind of like that it takes the viewer a while to realise there is someone in great danger in the scene. I could try a closer shot, possibly from above, but im afraid that might loose the grand scale of whats going on.
I duno. Im going to explore other possibilities, but this one gets a bookmark as one of my favorates.
very nice city. I like all sketchs. looking forward to see more

09-07-2005, 04:14 AM
Very cool start, good luck to you.
09-07-2005, 04:19 AM
goodluck to ya.the conceptual design for the airship looks great!keep it coming.:)
09-07-2005, 08:07 AM
Oooh! Airships.... you've got my attention Adam! ;)
09-07-2005, 08:18 AM
i really like the concept sketches and the tonal image is really good. The lighting across the image works incredibly well, and there's a 'spectacular' sense of scale! ;)
But the tiny flying figure could really make it work!! Fab idea!
looks very good so far... good luck Adam!!!
09-07-2005, 08:24 AM
its a good idea man, good luck
09-07-2005, 08:52 AM
hi CodeNothing, those concept sketches are great! How did you color them ? Pen, paper and markers or pc ?
09-07-2005, 12:39 PM
well done, looks great.
09-07-2005, 12:45 PM
very nice concept and as mentioned the tiny figure is a must!
09-07-2005, 12:49 PM
Great start
I don`t agree with you if everybody makes explosions and tornados you must make the same... I think (especially in your portrait version) the steam punk universe/environment and the zeppelins are enough spectacular... if you add some action like a plane passig through it will be enough cool...
Anyway I`m looking forward to see more pics :bounce:
09-07-2005, 12:50 PM
good luck mate!
Good statr with your concept..nice contrast
see you later
09-07-2005, 12:53 PM
I really like that idea of a fugative who's in great danger and on the run, but I'm wondering would it be an event that would get it's own place in history? no doubt that it would be 'spectacular' tho.
Anywho, keep things up and good luck!
09-07-2005, 01:06 PM
Really nice consept designs, and the picture looks great so far!
This will really be intresting :)
Good luck, hope you'll finish this time
09-07-2005, 02:10 PM
That last concept sketch is really nice, I would explore that element of the single jumper more, maybe expanding it to a crowd of ppl? (Just had this thought about Lemmings)
ok that's too solid! no, a very nice start man, can't wait to see color on this one. Please don't own us too bad
09-07-2005, 04:39 PM
Thanks for your coments everyone! :)
Xillion - The first concept submission was traditional pencil/paper and ink/marker. I used prismacolor greyscale markers.
Rudeone - yea, if we had a vieo of this event happening it probably wouldent end up in the history books, but it would deffinetly be downloaded a few million times on the internet. Kind of like all those crazy powerade comercials. ever see the one where the killer whale 'accidently' jumped on to the little Kayak?
LadyMedusa - thanks! i hope i finish this time too! LOL. :)
solothores - LOL, i think the lemmings idea would be too dipressing. at least this little guy may have a chance of snagging that airship on his way down. :D good idea though...

This is already looking great code. Were you in the Product or Illustration program at ACCD? Looks like product but it is hard to tell these days since the majors are mixing a lot.
Great Start.
09-07-2005, 07:44 PM
I took 3 terms in the illustration dept. are you at ACCD?
09-07-2005, 07:51 PM
Nice sketch! I really like where this is going, can't wait to see more! :)
09-07-2005, 07:51 PM
Oo, great concept: those architectural doodles look really delicious. And the idea of having the big picture, but with the story = nice.
But why does everyone - myself included - go for zeppelins? Any chance of you exchanging them for, say, something uncool? Like cars made from fridges and oil barrels?
09-07-2005, 09:19 PM
aahhhh...environment sketches. Iīm with you dude. Great vehicle sketches, too. The vertical composition looks much better.
Currently the image looks a wee bit static > maybe because of buildings. thatīs just the first impression.
09-07-2005, 09:49 PM
Kargokultti - I think zeplins are kind of popular now because everything else seems to have been done to death. Planes realy arnt that intersting anymore, save the kind of fantasy planes from Crimson Skies. Spaceships have been done to death, especialy here during the grand space opera challenge. Not to say those things cant be done, but it takes some time to come up with something fresh and new. I used zeps here because i wanted the scene to be peacefull, so a plane flying between buildings at 200 MPH wasnt gona do it. And im not a fan of giant sci fi hovercraft.
I designed my zep after a whale. big, gracefull, peacefull. Actualy when i go back and look at the design i think it looks too MUCH like a whale. especialy with the accidental placement of the hole in the side that gives it an eye. LOL.
Although a car made out of a fridge and oil barrels has possibilities.... Mabie my 3D submission? lol. :D
Fahrija - Thanks! yea the image is a bit static right now. I hope i will stamp that out with the next concept update. The entire world is going to be heavly styled in Art Nouveau so i'm hoping the buildings will bring some life to the scene without having to change the composition too drasticly.
09-07-2005, 11:49 PM
I wouldnt worry about everyone having explosions and all that. I was hoping someone would make just an amazing enviroment that fits into this challenge. Good luck on working this one out (and I love those blimps).
09-07-2005, 11:51 PM
in an attempt to liven up the scene a little and keep it from being too static, i put another ship in the forground with a couple people just noticing the person jumping from the ledge. One is pointing at him, so this may help the viewer notice the figure faster, but im afraid now only the top half of the piece is of any interest. although the image kind of reads: the man pointing, follow to the man jumping, follow to the blimp (his target) follow to the floor (if he misses).....
09-08-2005, 01:38 AM
Color study for my piece, I tried puting the forground blimp in sunlight, but it was way too distracting. They may end up geting a little light, but i kept em in the dark for now.
09-08-2005, 02:05 AM
The last colored sketch looks awesome. Atmosphere is great. Keep them coming.
09-09-2005, 01:43 AM
hehe, I thought the guy was jumping out of one of the buildings on the other side.....guess the point works (or i was just blind for that moment). Waiting for more.
09-09-2005, 01:48 AM
The blimp could be going up in flames, that'd be spectacular! ;)
09-09-2005, 08:12 PM
Beautiful sketches!
The composition does look better now but I'm afraid I wouldnīt have noticed the little jumper if I wasn't reading the story.
09-09-2005, 08:13 PM
Sorry, double post.
09-24-2005, 10:21 PM

10-04-2005, 12:40 PM
Very good vehicle design . And the light in are working very well.
But i agree with Sonia. Is difficult to see the jumper.
10-04-2005, 12:57 PM
Greetings! Oh dirigible balloons! It is class! To like very much work!
10-04-2005, 02:02 PM
