so followin my idea,i sketched a basic design for my church, now i have really rough thumbnails.

1.do i want to depict the scene with the church on the hill, farshot, with all the people and animals running down?

or

2.do i want the church in a really dynamic perspective and the people and animals running in a sorta curved way.

i'm leaning more towards two,but i want u guys opinion.

sorry for the extreme roughness lol, this is just how i work, usaully no one sees my roughs but me.

Zephyri
09-07-2005, 07:10 PM
Ka-raazy Noob... but in a good way! I'd be with you in leaning towards the second composition, providing eveything sits on believable axis.. urm... axises... er.. axes... o.O whatever the hell the plural of axis is. My boss takes loads of photos for schools for their prospectuses, and he always puts them on a slant, it makes them more dynamic. And you think that horse pose is too static? heavens above, I love the power of it! And I can't believe you made that joke either...

keep it up Noob!

Definately liking the idea now bro. The first composition looks very traditional, which i like, but then again, the second one has an expressive approach to it, which is also good. Okay, that didn't really help, but either way, i think both has it's good strong points.

Just planning, where all the figures will go ect.

i was inspired by classical art where they have war pics with all horses goin at each other, but i didn't want the boring flat composisition they used to use.

so heres my go at curvation, leading the eye from the church around in the image in a curved manner *hopefully.*

still very rough, just wanted to show sumthin, nothing is final as of yet.

Love the concept Nubian. I'm starting to see the curve effect that your trying to achieve, so your heading in the right direction. Have you given any though on how your going to paint it? I kind of like the idea you mentioned of the old war paintings. They had subtle colors yet looked amazing.

Yeay Nubian! A new sketch. It's looking great!=)

Though I see something strange with the girls in front.
They're perspective doesent seem to fit the church background perspective.

I think the girls are gonna be drawn more from "beneath looking up at them"
It would be awesome If you'll manage to do that, becasue thats a realy hard perspective to draw humans in I think.

Heres the perspective thinng I was talking about:
http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/2767/horizon9qv.jpg

I know you said the perspective was going to be twisted, So im not saying you should folow the church horizonline literally.. Maby it could even work the way you made it..
Besides..my horizon line and grid plane is way of anyway ^^

But keep up the good work mate. I think this is gonna look realy good in the end

Wasn't sure what milestone to put this under, cos it is a colour wip,but i haven't passed my lineart stage yet, this is just me testing the technique out.

what im doin is using an old traditional flemish technique...digitally.

basically...using painter..

1.i start out with a dead layer, which is made up of dull desaturated colours *greens*,this is just so i can make out where the light is coming from etc.just roughin in my basic colours.

2.i do a blend test on the underlayer to see if my colour choices actaully worked,i was satisfied.

3.this is where it gets tricky, the aim here is to add a colour layer, and make the darker and lighter areas more vibrant and brighter using more saturated colours.

4.continuation from 3.

5.a lil closer

6.now i blend like i've never blended before.lol

step 7 is missing which is adding detail and sharpening up,but as this was only practice,i decided to wait. lol.

my next post will be the lineart, this will be the dead layer of the whole image.

That's an interesting colouring technique. I notice a few people do it that way. It seems to work fine, although be a bit careful about compartmentalising your colours - remember to consider all of the image with every colour choice you make. I know you probably know this, but it doesn't hurt to say :)

Llynna hehe i'm not changing the whole thing lol,i'm just gunna add that horse, and probably extend the image out so that it reads like a story.and add more horses hah.

i shud draw the other part of the image traditionally in charcoal though.I prefer drawing traditonally, its allot more fun.

(look at me talking about the other part of the image when i haven't even finished the first part lol)

so its probably will be a long image, probably just like sumthin you would find in a cathedral:D

Looking good Noobsie, there's a real sense of impending doom in the composition, a sort of vortex if you will, and your surreal style will only add to that, this could be one of those "woah" pictures, if you'll excuse the keanu-esque saying. I may not continue with this guys,i'm very busy working with my portfolio,i could easily finish this image, but not in the challenge way *milestones etc* i just don't have the time for that.

and to tell the truth,2 weeks into this challenge i had already grown bored of the theme and lost interest, because unlike the previous challenges, this one is more or less......anything,i think challanges like this should have some kinda boundry,in my opinion this theme might aswell be called *anything* or *good* lol,i can't produce anything without sum kinda strong guidline*unless its my own project and not a challenge*,thats just the way i work.
