Some different versions of cropping/framing ... more decisions! aargh!

I got the suggestion from Lemog that I should try another framing for the pic - and since his advice is often really good I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm more timid than his suggestion ... but anyway, this could actually work better!

Let me know what you think while I try to get myself a fresh pair of eyes :)

Options:

Top - streched equally in both sides, slightly cropped on height.

Middle - streched on the left side, slightly cropped on height and frame top and bottom

Bottom - the old square thing

Me likes the middle one with the expanded left side. Of course I get the feeling that the right-sided bias could be even stronger, and you'll have to do something with what's left on the left side (like a gradient darkening thing or blur or something else)... but aside from that, the middle one feels like the one being mostly on target compared to the other two.

Good luck deciding

I don't know, I still like #3. If it wasn't a choice, I'd go with #1. But, because what your really trying to showcase in this shot is located in the middle of the frame, theres really no reason to go with a wider angle. If you had something valuble to the shot that would benifit from a wider frame I'd say go for it. I like the personal feel of the third image. With the wider aspect, I think you lose that.

James is right about #2, but when I look at it I feel like the babies lose their importance in the shot. With the space on the left it feels like maybe theres something over there that you may want to see.

I like the middle one... :) but not sure why, if it´s the expanded format or that the red frame tho... takes time to figure that out for a blondie like me, why?

I like the top one the best. It is sort of cinematic, plus the extra colour and contrast are nice.

Still like the bottom one most, not only because I'm used to see this one:) ...it's just the middle of interest and I don't think you will get the rest so realistic and pleasant without a lot of effort:curious: ...no, without hesitation: The bottom one for me!:bounce:

Geez , that's a really tough one ... the square one is great , that's for sure...
First and second one have really cool idea, argh not easy ... :banghead:

Well the middle one could be a really unexpected choice so I guess I will vote for that one , originality... love that ...

that's what I do during my long renders (also looking for silly smilies on the net) http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/all.gif

I can help you with that...:

Good morning Gunie...

You know my choice honey... I think to rest in my position for the moment... (wide, very closed, little cut...)

But if I must do a choice now... it's the second... but more centered, you don't have a background which can permit you this kind of decay... usually, that works very good with a real environment... with some details, even if they're not really visible, but here, your background is only a support to your subject, the mood of your subject...

The contrast zone of the aura and the rest of the background is very hard and short... I will prefer a larger range for it...

...nice to see some framing test... and that kinf of framing permit your work to breathe... also that will make it more imposing, and of course, more spectacular  G.R.E.A.T.

Wow - thanks all for this amazing feedback! It really helps, even if it doesn't make the decision easier...

James - very good, thanks! That sort of sums up my own thinking when I saw them today.

Brian - I think you're right in this - by widen the shot the image change its meaning in a way ... suddenly the fetuses are a part of something bigger. good or bad thing? Don't know yet-
Thanks a lot for your opinion

Mona - thanks - and another vote for number 2!

Hamid - another middleman, thanks!

Jim - and one for the top... this is not getting any easier, but thanks anyway :)

Monsit - thank you for the cheering and the vote .... middle again, hmmm

Sabrina - a strong vote for the original, thank you!

Stepan - counted, thanks!

John - another fan for the bottom, thanks mate!

Steph - a rather hesitant vote for the middle, right? And thanks for the lovely smilies... and now I found a new smiley site to dig into

Eddie - middle, thank you! ... man? :D

Laurent - Good morning, dear!
Thank you for pushing me into doing these tests, and looking at them today I agree I could make it more dramatic in the cutting. If I go with a streched version I will work the background so it suits the new layout better. Thanks a lot for your always precious advice :)

Thanks everyone for your time and interest - very much appreciated! I will dwell on this for a couple of days before making up my mind...as I said I feel like it's a shift in content for the image when the shot is widened - and I still don't know if that's what I want here.
The middle or something similar is a more interesting and spectacular layout to me ... on the other hand the original, narrow one is more intimate and calm.

Almost a good thing I will be stuck with other work today, have a good day :wavey:

Some different versions of cropping/framing ... more decisions! aargh!

I got the suggestion from Lemog that I should try another framing for the pic - and since his advice is often really good I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm more timid than his suggestion ... but anyway, this could actually work better!

Hi Gunilla, is a hard decision mate, i really liked the all options:), but the third looks to me must interesting. Congrats, great work

Eddie - yeah, I know ;)

Jannis - thank you, taking notes ...

Carlos - thanks a lot :)

Alan - The original, square one for you - thank you!

Roshan - one more for the third, thank you for letting me know what you think!

Well, I still haven't made up my mind yet - I might need some days. Perhpa I try both and decide in the end, the square one is almost done anyway.
What I need to decide is mostly what kind of image I want it to become - right now I'm leaning towards my original, more intimate idea. That will probably change though ...

Thanks again for all your support and interest!

First one for the cinematic view... the second one is very interesting and the last one is focused at your figures... hard to tell... both are relly cool... mmm man I'm lost... the 2nd one have most preference...

Good Morning, Gunilla!

I see it's a difficult decision you have to make. But for me you can feel very relaxed: With your latest version on the harddisc nothing bad can happen to you:cool: ...I'm curious to see which version you'll choose!

Julien - thanks - that's about sums it up I think ... difficult choice :)

Ahmed - thank you, very kind!

Victor - thanks buddy... and counting another vote for the third

Jorge - thanks for the vote, this is not getting easier!

Laurent - Ah, yes the fourth alternative :banghead::banghead: thanks dear - and a wallpaper might be a good idea - stay tuned :)

Sabrina - thank you and me too :scream:

I'm so thankful for your views on this and I was hoping to see a clear direction here... but it seems that's a close call between the middle and the square:shrug:

Good thing I don't have to decide quite yet - I'll still have time to work on both.
Thanks for your feedback and interest

11-16-2005, 03:01 PM
well , i like all of the three, but for the challenge sake : the third one is way too centered it is deprived from the touch of caousness, the second one is croped off at the top , i think you should go for the first one ,it 've gathered all the elements with a beutifull touch of non uniform measurements, not too focused on the twins .
and thanks for your geneous words , i will propably do as you told me. (http://forums.cgsociety.org/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#)
thanks also for the remarkable tip

Ahmed - thanks for letting me know your thoughts, much appreciated!

Mike - thanks... confusing me even more :)

Shakes - thanks mate, but there is quite some work with making them in highres... I've started to do them now to see which to choose in the end... my PS workfile is around 800 mb with all the layers - so it's not going fast :banghead:

samer - thank you, good luck to you too!

Carlos - thanks a lot for your cheering!¨

Hamid - Yes! Thank you for liking the blur babies:bounce:

Laurent - good morning! hmphh... new format... doesn't like the blur... taking notes of your wishes here. I hope to make you fully satisfied before the ending ;) :D

Sabie - Ok - doesn't like the blur... old format... now, how will I solve this? :scream:

Steph - Bouahahaha! That cheering smiley totally cracked me up! And OK - no blur on your wish list either.

Well folks, I'm always happy for your advice. I like the blur, and will probably keep some of it and remove some - I am testing the new format but as mentioned- it all goes very much in snailspeed now ( or should I say Steph-speed?) :D
The files with all layers are huge and makes me wish for a new computer... have a great day all!

Regardless of the final format decisions, it's certainly starting to look finished.... i.e. it's really hard to come up with something to crit at this point.

Looking forward to see the final steps here soon (you don't want to struggle with an overloaded FTP server in the last minute here!)

James - Yep, it feels quite finished now... and I can't say I'm sorry! I've learned a lot from this though - these challenges are really a good reason to keep going behind that point of utterly boredom and frustration :)
Thanks for the cheers!

Roshan - thanks! It's very possible I choose this one.

Monsit - thanks for your opinion! Your advice is always valuable to me :)

Sergio - good to know your thoughts, thanks

So - I'm beginning to see the end of this. Still I have to choose between more spectacular/active as in this last version or the calm/intimate of the previous ... I'm quite happy about both of them so in the end I may very well toss a coin :)

So, this means more time for me now to visit your threads with good advice if I can and useless spam if I can't :D

cameraman: how do you expect me to flip and turn inside the actors?

thanks for taking the turn

James - Oh thanks... Perfect is a word I really like - and I will most likely keep it, thanks for backing it!

Pierre - thank you, I'm glad to hear! :wavey:

dern - thank you! And I now have some new idea for using it ... maybe selling it to some fertilize clinic - Pay for one, get two! :D

Well folks, I'm beginning to see the end of this journey and will most likely upload my finished pic in a near future and move on to other projects. I've had great fun with this and learned a lot ... best lesson was - modeling is not dangerous! :bounce:

Everywhere, every day - the most common of events; the beginning of new life. This is where we all come from. Without it there would be nothing, isn't that spectacular?

"There is that in me . . . . I do not know what it is . . . . but I know it is in me.
Wrenched and sweaty . . . . calm and cool then my body becomes; I sleep . . . . I sleep long.
I do not know it . . . . it is without name . . . . it is a word unsaid, It is not in any dictionary or utterance or symbol.
Something it swings on more than the earth I swing on, To it the creation is the friend whose embracing awakes me.
Perhaps I might tell more . . . . Outlines! I plead for my brothers and sisters.
Do you see O my brothers and sisters? It is not chaos or death . . . . it is form and union and plan . . . . it is eternal life . . . . it is happiness."
Poem by Walt Whitman

Thanks Sab! It was kind of shaky for some time - a major black-out in the neighbourhood just as I was touching up the last details... I was kind of nervous while waiting for the power to come back, luckily the file was intact!

I'm uploading my TIF right now - it feels good, this was a great challenge!
Thanks to all for making this one of the highlights... it's rare to find an environment where it's possible to meet and share knowledge with so many great and skillful artists ... I see you all as my best workmates ... and playmates too

Good luck all in your own finalisation of your visions!

This was the best challenge so far for me, I loved every part of it - making my image, finding out new ways to solve things and most of all - sharing all this with what must be the best Internet community around. I'm really glad I'm here with all of you. See you in the next challenge ( if not sooner) :wavey:

Hi Gunni,

Long time no seen. Great final img. That composition works well i think. my favorits are those "liquid" details of the bckgrnd. Those veins on them also rocks. You did a great job with the balance of pure flesh and the miracle of being a human. Exciting and interesting. See ya next time...lady

Good morning honey... what a good news here... ZB... you're decided then... good thing... I'm sure that this tool can be useful for you... finally, you don't like to modelize so much... and you prefer working with your feeling... I must acknowledge to be very curious to discover your first tests...
You will profit of the winter to learn it seriously I presume... good decision... I should do the same thing... but for the moment, miss me the little "click" in my head :scream:

And your new website... always on it ?

Have a nice day Gunie :wavey:

Gunilla
12-15-2005, 05:49 AM
Scooter - haha, "prendre son pied" - I have to remember that one! Thanks for cheering, Michel and I hope to have some fun with ZB... have you tried it?

Steph - Good thing it's not all feet then - you still have time to do other things than chasing for them :scream: Sure, I keep you posted if I "go public" with my tests - still don't know how it will suit me. Always happy for your spam, foot digger :D

Loulu79 - thank you! I'm glad you like it!

Laurent - good morning :bounce: Yes, I've been thinking of it for some time, you know that - and I can see it probably would be a good thing for me to use. It haven't "clicked" for me yet either - but I thought that spending all that money to get it will force my brain to try harder :) We'll see how it turns out... if I don't like working with it I'm still very happy with Max ... and really feel like getting better at modeling.
And we don't speek about the website, OK? :banghead::banghead:

Have a nice day oh you nice folks

Jannis - yeah , that's pretty much what I planned too - but the demo doesn't support export/import of models and since that's my planned use I just wnet and bought it anyway. Hope to have it tomorrow :)

and why not, cellular phones implanted in the brain for wifi connection, that will be more than incredible :scream:

Indeed it would :scream: haha, and don't worry I will probably encourage you to get it too - so I can pick some tricks from you
