i think i have got the idea for my picture now.

above is a character sketch i did a while ago, but he is quite suitible to get the general idea. i have i fever right now, so i am not realy able to draw now, but i wanted to share my idea with you.

this will be about the urge of people to see the spectacular. in all times trough the history of humanity there where gladiator games. at some times called executions or now a days boulevard press and tv shows. people stop at car traffics and crime scenes just to see wether there are dead or injured people for the sensation.
the image will be about the new tv show of the future, where you could watch you own death.

i hope i am able to get a concept sketch with the environment and the viewer by tomorrow.

Nice character and idea :) I'm trying to understand the concept of watching your own death on tv.. you wouldnt actually die?

Llynna
09-08-2005, 02:44 PM
that is one thing i am thinking about myself, but in the concept i have now, the viewer is dying while watching. but because the rider will be some sort of holograph it could be placed in a virtual reality wherer you really die and fell the pain and the life drift away from your body but then go back to real life and suddenly notice that you didnt die. well.......... i think this is becoming more twisted the higher the fever gets and my english is getting more terrible with it rising too.

I love very much this interesting concept, between the reality show televised, and this interaction between the public, his death and these holographic virtual gladiators with horse.
Not easy to understant, but if I understood well the concept, it's really brilliant, and I wish you much courage for the realization which promises to be super interesting.
Cheer Britta

@dunkelgold: thank you; i am much better today, so i amgoing to paint paint paint :D

@koekebakker: your support is really appreciated

@lemog: i am glad you like it laurent. i will try to get it in a more proper english, with a more logic concept today *gg*. i was a little bit confused (well, i am confused most of the time) and just wrote it down as my thoughts gone loose.

@calisto: thank you:)

to get an idea of the perspective i set up a little 3d scene this morning (this is ok isnt it?). it needs some refinement still. what is really weired is that i have the full image in my head since 2 days without thinking much about it. i hope i will be able to get it on the canvas as i see it in my head.

some sketches for the rider of death. this night i tried to make up my mind for the rider. i am not quite satisfied with the demon style look.... but i dont think i will go for the standart with the skull ether. my favorite is the one with the undercut which face is only partly a scull.

I like the gothlike death. So different. There's some kind of attractiveness to its ugliness. Dont know if I said it right. But I prefer the first weapon .

hm, colour sketch for the undercut death, i am not really satisfied with his look, i think it is too fantasylike.

well,he is wearing a chitin like material breatplate, because of its felxibility. it is ment to grow and be able to cover the wearer with flexible but unbreakble armor in my concept. on the other hand it is connected to the source of the holograph as well, along with the rider and the weapon.

i am currently drawing a totally different and more realistic looking one.

NOOB!
09-11-2005, 10:26 AM
i like it,maybe the sparkly power blue thingies are a bit much,*cos of em damn non-fantasy rules:rolleyes: *

but i think u'd get away with it.

Llynna
09-11-2005, 10:30 AM
wah noob, you are fast. i do not intend to let them be so intense on the picture. they will be some sort of little blue lights or such which will be showing that he is a holograph after all. but if someone states he looks too fantasy to be true and such do not apply for the rules: well, i do know people who look this way.

another aproach on the rider. more emotional and not more mature

i think this is the way i will be going with him. i think i will try to create a more lunatic look, pared with compassion.

i thought about the situation again and came to the conclusion that the idea of watching your own death and the sensational lust going alongside is best approached by doubling the viewpoint. you will see the scene (working on an environmental sketch now) through the eyes of the "victim" and also the victim will be the rider, so that he stares in his own lunatic face.

i had reference, but i only looked on it half way. i must admit that i am a looser at drawing men.... so i needed reference.

that was my opinion too. i want him to have an emotional face and so i have to study it more and more, while doing the overall concept.

thank you for your replies everybody, they are very encouraging.

I love the Death Concept II design... very strong effects, I prefer this kind of approach... in my advice, death is not a real dream... that must be strong and hard like this drawing...

...and when at the same time it's strong and beautiful, inevitably, we're attracted towards it, towards this death, unrelentingly. Very good way...

i think i have got the look now that i wanted. dispair, insanitiy but paired with bits of fear

i worked on this more hours than i dare to admit (am so damn slow -.-). the next update will finally be about the concept for the whole image. i have got some but they are still on analog paper. since i lack a scanner these days because i had to move from my flat which had a leak of the water pipe.

i decided to give it a fish eye perspective, i mean a curv linear one. you will see directly through the victims eyes. see his feet and then this nice charming guy coming for you.

thanks for all your support

We can read here a real impressive of depth in his broad and astonished eyes. Really very strong, power in the straight of pencil.
I think that if you want to increase his impression of despair, his mouth should be half-opened, like if it to remain to him only one small breath of life, therefore of hope, like if it to try again to take a little of it and maybe, to come back towards his life.
The position of the head very well, is slightly raised, which reinforces the hope-despair relation.

I always find a fantastic work here... this not finished painting is already very beautiful...
...I could with pleasure frame it and hang it to one of my walls, or in one of my niches. :scream:

Llynna
09-14-2005, 10:56 AM
@noob: you somehow influenced me with your flamish style attempt^^.

@beelow: i trie to create some classic style image, i am bored of my fantasy style images these days and somehow the sketches turned out more classical. or maybe its rebecca who so often told em: study the old masters *gg*

@lemog: you are such a sweetie :) this means a lot to me.
but since he is the killer i want him to smirk some more, maybe a little bit more ironic. must think about it^^

Lemog

Llynna
09-14-2005, 11:25 AM
you are right somehow lauront :). it is quite hard for me to explain it properly in english too.... well it is hard to explain in german even.... quite confusing for all people. i hope to get it straight while painting. the point is, he is the reflection, but not only he is the embodiment of the greed for sensation which i intend to illustrate by the mor skullish and dark side of the face and the side of him that fears death and is in pain.

i know it is confusing.......... i will have a friend of mine write it down for me who is studying english^^

some quick thoughts on the setup.

not too satisfied with this, but it gives a rough insite on what i am planning to do. i came to the conclusion that the ideo to see it through the eyes of the watcher/victim isnt goint to be a good one. these black thingies are supposed to be hands *gg* and the black and white lines are supposed to be some sorts of spiderweb or such.

Really original concept Llynna! Plays with something everyone has an opinion about, death and knowing how you're going to die - it'll be really interesting to see this develop. Even from the sketches you can see how dynamic and full of life the picture is - *pokes* update soon!
