HELLO!

Here it comes...
The basic idea is that somwhere exists a fountain which flows the water not affected by gravity, and sometimes birds (or other creatures) loves to come there and play with it, drink it, splash it and etc.
This sketch isn't exactly what I expect the final to look, but I hope it will give a basic understanding of what I am going to do... Excuse my drawing I am still learning my (GOD DAMN) hand...

See ya...

Decided to give some progress...

I started to create a tubes of fountainan (more like: sketch of tubes) wich will flow the water and the birds skeleton to experiment on poses. Within I'm experimenting on layout. Have to try a diferent angles. No real modeling yet

hhssuu Thanks, it's a loft modeling. Paths and shapes in other words.
david.mig, mmoir, ar LutiK, Thank you all, that's really sweet to hear that from you :)
uiron Yes you'r right this is the same I am trying to do. I on purpose do not sent the final concept scene because it may be tweaked quite a lot in progress, in any case the ornaments will sure be there... :wise: Aciu

Pooyag
09-28-2005, 01:20 PM
that's interesting

CryingHorn
09-29-2005, 07:17 AM
Yongkiat Thanks. Well that's easy, by using splines you draw a path and a shape that will follow that path, the using loft modeling method you pick those two splines and that's it. After that you can use a deformation tab for scaling, twisting and etc. Type "loft" in help of max it will be much informative I guess.

3rd user Thanks :)

Legs looks nice, but something wrong with birds head, I think you should work more on the eye. Sekmes :)

CryingHorn

Here comes the wing progress, hell with me, I jumping to all parts of my picture, want to make everything at the same moment, I have to stop that... anyway, don't look now at the textures cause they are made for better visual understanding how feathers are placed. The most important think now is to place all feathers corectly so they would construct a proper wing, I have to get more references, that's all for now... critism would be welcome. ;)

CryingHorn
10-06-2005, 06:53 PM
(o)ne Thanks, it's nice to hear that, though the feathers will look better in future (I hope) :)

melkao Thank you, well this is a "birds of paradise", though not existing type actually... mostly I am using referneces of "paradisea apoda" also known as lesser or very similar type raggiana. So mostly it's shape going to look like that, but not the colors... or maybe though...

uiron
10-06-2005, 07:27 PM
awesome feathers, you're some kind of a madman to create them one by one?:]

CryingHorn
10-07-2005, 02:43 PM
uiron Hi, well I used array for feathers placing and cloning, and after that scaled individually, tweaking the bend parameters on each of them, it actually took about an hour, so nothing mad about it truly...

HillbillyKing

OK, "feather placing" is almost complete, I think I'll have to tweak them in progress when I a'll make proper textures of feathers. For now only the shape texture (opacity) is done...

see you..

Ok this is mini explanation of how I did the wing, as you can see it was lot of planes bended, scaled moved and rotated, mostly I used array function and then manualy tweaked everything a bit... The othe wing side is going to be the same, just with some minor tweaking and, of course, a diferent texture...

CryingHorn
10-12-2005, 12:47 PM

3rd user Yes of course, I haven't textured the feathers yet, thanks

HammaJamma Thanks, I'm glad you liked it :D

yunisirees Ahh yes, you are creating a bird too. Well I promised my self that I won't deal with fur and hairs in this challenge, but heh... didn't have any other choise, I just tryed it... and then couldn't find any better method then this... "fallof" shader just wasn't that good, a planes with slight feathers on it wasn't good eather, I am not so good with texturing yet.. :banghead:

MattGyver che che, yeah, now that you said... a fluffy blue pinguin che che... Actually a full island of them would look quite spectacular. Thanks, nice to see you here again man...

thierry2005 Yeah me too, even though a bit scared about synchronization of hairs feathers and textured feathers... Oh well will see how it will develop...

claudio_jordao Thanks, yes your image is gorgeus for me too. It's really unique that showed some kind of movement wich constructs the wing in it's progress... (at least I understand your image like that) thanks good luck to you too :D

Hi all, I've decided to give some progress of my water simulation, the most important thing now is a texture, I had to make a proper environment that would suit the image and made a great reflective look on water, anyway there is lot of experimenting and not much time, I am now working hardly on a final layout and right composition, I'll send it right away I'll be happy with it...

Here it is, almost completed, some texturing still missing, the colors still may vary but mostly it will look like this. As I said before this is imagined bird but something similar to him are ragianna and lesser birds or paradisea apoda (birds of paradise) wich I mostly used as a reference. Sorry for static pose, couldn't resist not to send this render :) I'll send some more of him later, now I have to sleep it's 3.30 night... so goodnight to all...

SOme changes... I decided to change all architecture... cause the old didn't looked good enough for me. SO this is is a new one, within a final layout (thank god), I still have to make rails, add vines, finish fountain tubes, split out of them water, add birds, add backround... yeah...

This is my part of background, The tree's textures were made with speed tree, in total I made 9 different of them, then rendered and put them on simple planes.

This one was a bit harder, I modeled the tree by myself so it would look ok on final render, then I used speed tree to make leaf's planes on it, I had to put manualy planes on lower branch and some on the whole tree so it would look like those leafs are ... part of the tree :)

wow, you have done quite a lot of progress since I last visited.

I feel that the lighting can be improved a bit more. The tubes are almost flat and can barely be seen. See that splash of light on the fountain steps? That splash of light should be reaching your tubes. Maybe you are planning of adding a spotlight to the tubes... I don't know; but the birds and the tubes need to be emphasized more, your current light rig is not doing that IMO.

Thanks for a crit man, yes I know, that rendering was a quick that's why it looks so, the light which comes from above has a map on it's shadow, to give a feeling that something is a bove that fountain, so in this case it darkens the tubes and the birds, I'll fix that for sure  thanks again :D

Storyline

Once there was a man. When he was a child he used to play in the near woods with his favorite slingshot which he got as a present from his father. He shot leaves, trees, rocks, and he had fun. But once he saw a bird on the high tree drinking drops of dew from leaves. He looked beautiful, and his feathers on the back were gorgeous. The living target is something that a real hunter should hunt to, he thought. The bird looked calm and relaxed, he didn’t saw a human near by. The kid aimed and made his perfect shot. The bird immediately felt down on the ground near some green grass which started becoming red with bird’s blood. His scared look went to the young hunter who was coming towards him. With that look he started to move trying to safe himself, but he was too weak to do something. When the kid finally came close to him the bird was just staring at him with his dead eyes still full of fear. The kid started to cry and shake. He felt how his conscience began to torture him. He was scared so much that at one moment he almost swooned. Excuses seemed pathetic in that situation, though he was still screaming them. He felt like that for four days and nights. And then he made a promise, that some day his guilt will be redeemed.
His life continued, he became a professional architect and he was quite famous and very successful at his job. In his entire carrier he built lots of buildings, memorials and monuments which all were special, making everyone to smile and feel comfortable. When he became old he remembered his promise, he remembered it all the time. So he came back to that wood, and started to build a… fountain. This was the best work of all that he had ever done only by himself. When he finished it, he took a few steps back to see it all. He was standing for a while and thinking about something; “…four nights…” he gently smiled and said:
- This fountain will finish crying my sorrow over that bird which is still left in me…
After that he quietly went away.
When his soul left this world it was a warm late evening. That evening, birds of that wood first time accepted his warm, hearty, ingenuous and so weightless… magical redeem which finally has got forgiveness.

…breathe, drink, play, enjoy… …Four Nights Fountain…
