..Enveloping Test (skinning) of his body..i will be ready for poses i think tonight...

For those not familiar with XSI..the different coloring shows the influence of the underneath bone...it needs some more work but it will do for posing...

...hair skinning (enveloping..yoinks)

Just a trick so that his poly hair follow head movement. The upper part of the hair is skinned with soft weight maps on upper head bone...at the same time lower part of them is skinned in mid torso bone....

I think it gives a pretty natural secondary movement to hair group...

Also the is an HDRI pass with the image shown on left at the percentage shown.

oh! turbo mode! nice image dimitri!, some point is you can desaturate lady cloth and nameless skin ,( lady cloth ok ,if you want her to be colorful and focal point of image) , and sky is distract ,maybe let it has more space ,now the cloud look busy , a little point , good job and good luck mate!

• Hello Dim!, Very good work and very close to the end , may I suggest the man wearing black a white clothing? i have the impression that he merges with the environment or try separing the first plane with "light painting" so the characters come out to our eyes....Ok I got it...what about giving the background some fog? that will give more deepness to the image and make the first plane stronger!
Always nice to come and see your progress  Keep it up and i wish u the nessesary strenght in this final days!

DimitrisLiatsos
11-21-2005, 07:26 AM
@ monsitj ...hey my Thai friend...u are right in all point...i was afraid that Nameless Guy's face needs desaturation and that the sky is a bit busy....Lady ..well lady i need her to stand out as far as her coloring of clothes...but maybe it needs to tone a bit down....thanks man  .

@ Climax ...hey friend...thx...changing of his clothes now...it's late for that...not to mention that i had him in my mind with black clothes (as in concepts)....i will see what i can do with him standing out (although in high rez it looks better)...but what is going to happen to this image is only for today...'cuase i really have to move to something new or i will go nuts...heehe...thank u friend... :wavey:

JamesMK
11-21-2005, 07:32 AM
Well, Dimitris, it's good to see all the stuff together.

I know you've been ridiculously busy with work, and I know you're totally sick of these characters and environment by now, so I won't blame you if you don't do anything more with it.

BUT, if you do, the most glaring problems are these:

- The characters are not very well integrated in the environment. Hardly at all in fact, so at a first glance they appear very cut'n'paste

- The skin tones need correction. Particularly the dude on the left.

- There's no real sense of action (or, failing that, anticipation)

The annoying nitpicking git has spoken. And it will now have its morning coffee :D

.

DimitrisLiatsos
11-21-2005, 07:57 AM
Arghhh...ok u annoying nitpicking git:p...as always ..u are right..i 'll give it some time...'cuase if i want to be very honest ..i don't like it much as it turned up to now.....ok..ok...final will wait a bit longer..gaaaaa:wip::wip:. I guess i needed a annoying nitpicking git this morning...lol :p

Will see what i can do about all this...(heads up Dimi...:wip:)

Hard facts: it's actually 14 whole days left until the deadline. Given the worldfamous speed of the Liatsos-machine.... I'd say, just forget about this completely for one whole week. Then give it a final whirl after that. Should probably work fine.

really great job on this,i specially like the environment, but man,
i think the composition is "Normal",u know,a kind of spectacularity should be there, just think of it,not a timetaking thing, replace characters, some more action or maybe a little motionblur somewhere, and the contrast,i mean the contrast which defines the eye control over the scene, maybe by replacing characters this issue is solved, ofcourse these are personal comments, and i hope i wasnt t5hat insulting!:D
by the way, verry cool job.i like it alot:buttrock:

About your comp... I have the same feeling than James... but I'm sure you know that... your eyes are good... that certainly not need lot of work for you... only in compositing mode... and you can obtain somehting better... and why not, something perfect which comes to the top...

Man, don't you sleep at all?
I bet you where listening to "kitrinos typos" last night...

You've really amazed me with you technique and speed :applause:
Turbo mode indeed as mentioned!

Some suggestions in the compostition:
The woman "looks" larger than the two warriors(unless you want her to be so)
Maybe because she's on the staircase..
dunno just visually the warriors seem a tad too small, like breaking the perspective, and not very imposing...
If the camera could lower a bit?
I know you want to show the table, but a lower perspective migh give a more dramatic look.
The left guy imho might need a more agressive expression?
As mentioned saturation on woman and left guy need to be toned down a bit.

my $0.2

You are right...

a) woman is a bit taller (half head of them both....i want her to look taller and majestic...complete anatomy is not what i was (am ) aiming for.
b) warriors ...are i must admit wrongly composited...i discovered just minutes ago that i was using older camera for them...(guess work made me forgot some stuff in my wip in this...lol...sorry)
c) Yup color tones will be saturated down a bit...u are right.

As far the action goes....and ..Spectacularity of thetheme goes...my idea is the moment before the attack and the all set of this story....the mood of the light and the scenery...i am sorry if an actual fight was expected....but the still moment before they attack is what i was thinking...here the are on the circle dance warriors do when they try to find angle for attack to the opponent.

I have to regroup myself to make it as i was imagining to become...and i really want to end it ...at least in a week's time....got to rest some day...:argh:

thanks friends

Then (based on your last wire comp view), you can drag the camera a bit to the right, so Hero's sword is not cropped, and lose the empty area on the left,
and move the two warriors a bit to the right too, so the center of stair/building is visible.
There you can place woman, not standing, but levitating, to give her more mystery and aura..

The new composition is fantastic. I love how this feels like a moment of calm in a building storm. It's like a still version of the "Frozen time" effect. I would love to be able to fly through the suspended raindrops and around these epic warriors. Wow! this piece explodes with dramatic mood.

...hi

- Fixed Sky back....
- Fixed a bit General Light
- Fixed Lady's height (i may wanted her very tall...but it seemed detached from the full picture at prev size).
- Fixed ligh on her face...now it must be better i think..
- Fixed foreground stone at the very right of image..it was producing wierd specularity which was not justified by env lighting.

- Rendering now again heroes at last pose...again 3 layers+1...(Ambient -Hdri - Shadow Pass...and a mid tone pass of faces and hands)...

I may have time for one more last elemnt..(although i really like it even as it is right here...)
It shouldn't be long now...

Thanks friends for all kind words and crits...

Wow, Dimi, that scene looks almost photorealistic (at least to me) :D ~ fantastic work!!! :applause: The thing I notice is that the woman does not seem to be sharing the same naturalistic light as the scene ~ perhaps because the colors of the fabric of her clothes is so bright / warm, and her surroundings are so cool, she stands out almost too much...just my humble opinion about this incredible scene...can't wait to see it finished!!! :bounce:

Personally... all is okay for me (I like her color contrast with the sad and wet environment, and particulary her rich color reflection on the very wet ground of stones...)... and you can go to the next step... the guys integration... best wishes to keep their contrasted presence and position... that can do all in your masterpiece.... Go Dimi...

You know I like your image, and the backround clouds are nice, with perspective.

Its just something with the light -I can't be specific- but this last render, gives me the impression like it has been shot using a flash, that is, the light is coming from the camera and not from the sky.
Although it is cloudy, and should not have sharp shadows, the vertical surfaces are a tad too bright...

Very nice work and I'm impressed. My only crit would be that the wind is blowing left to right on the lady's robe and it is blowing right to left on the man in the foreground. To confuse things even more, the raindrops are falling straight down which means that there is no wind. This may not be something that most people would notice. I just thought I would mention this incongruity.

Lemog

Near to be perfect... just if you can approach of us a little the guy of the left... and little more on the right... not so much... as one flour stone...
- to gain a better difference of scale with the girl and of course gain little detph...
- to don't have this guy just aligned with the roof of the building... little disturbing...

to finish... less important, but finally... the guy of right have his head aligne too with the top of the roof (you like that my thread ? or you're really buzy :scream: hahaah)

hmm...

a last thought... the little piece of wall at right... is it really necessary... not really visible, the spectator don't know exactly what is it... if you delete it, you can push the right guy more at right... more breath, head out of the top of the roof... and his weapon... not cut just at it end... maybe you can turn it a little... cause the weapon appear very very perpendicular to the camera axis... that give a lighting too much uniform for the weapon...

another last point... sorry mate... the low part of the dress of the right guy seem really flat... certainly because the lighting... shape appear the same to the right to the left...

and when it's finish, remain you only one thing to do... find something to give more contrats to the left guy with the environment...

I just hope you find some interesting ideas for you in these matinal thoughts... nice day for you and keep your hand on...

Thanks friends...the truth is that STILL i don't like it...lol...not mainly in the parts of position of them (thanmks my friend Lemog). But mainly in part of lighting overall...My strong thoughts, and i would like opinions on this, are the image needs to MORE darken and LESS saturated ...in a drastic degree...especially the background....

Truly...i am not yet completely pleased with the result ...:rolleyes::sad:....but ..i 'll see how can i at least save it to be more descent a final image.

Thanks friends for the crits and kind words.

Much better now, Nutso

The characters feel a bit more "there", and the arrangement of them is more interesting than before.

As I gather, you're basically on the case in terms of what still needs to be fixed, so I won't mention those bits.

Except for that the sky has that very composited look... sync it up a bit better to match the reflections on those roofs... should do the trick. The key/fill ratio could be a little more harsh than currently too, wouldn't hurt... And for a final touch-up, if you feel like it, maybe it could be good if some structure off-screen to the right would cast some shadow on the closest character, to really anchor him in there.

Ploppy improvements already!

Dimi,

Forgive me since this is amateurish/quick/not very YOINKS, but I think a bit of blue light on the characters might help to tie them more into the scene. Then perhaps giving a shaft of sunlight, perhaps to the woman's face, would give the image a focal point, which I think atm it lacks...my little two cents. :)

Hi Dimitri! I like your work and I just can admire your skills. I hope you don't mind that I did this quick overpaint for your pic.
I just found the lighting quite confusing and I think you should add more direction for it to make it more dramatic. I also lowered the bg warrior's head to make him look more threatening. I also removed roof shape on the top, because I think it neccessarily won't help your pic to work any better. Of course, you don't have to agree with those changes, just some thoughts.. :)

Keep it up! :bounce:

The story behind this image is ispired by the first fight sequence in Yimou's film with title "HERO". The magical way in which the commitment of a warrior to his art is presented along with the presence of magical colors was something spectacular for me.
In this scene time seemed to slow down as the music was playing and suddenly when music stops the two warriors attack o each others with tremendous power.

The story of this image.

_________________________________________________

FOR YOUR LOVE...

It has been said that Music and Sword art are lifting the warriors spirit, that was holding the two warriors before attacking to each other. The time has stopped, rain is calming down and some first rays of Sun are fighting through the clouds to reach her face.
They are fighting for her, they both long her touch and smile and the smell of her hair. They can't both have it, someone must step back...no one does...Someone must die.
She stands there trying to hold her pain, trying not to show that she is afraid for the man she really loves...Thunder the spear warrior. She doesn't have the right to choose now...it will be decided through this last fight.
The man in black clothes, Nameless Hero, is known that can kill almost everyone when he reaches in ten steps from him...
The music that was helping them concetrate to each other's eyes has stopped. They are streching their muscles...it will be over in a while...
She hopes for her love to win...He moves to Thunder ..he is still eleven steps away...

Congratulations on your final.
As usual a great Masterpiece & perefect in every dimension ;)

I special like the mood in your Artwork.

Maybe i would have changed the lighting a bit.... but can not right say in whish direction?!.
Whatīs a bit disturbing 4 me are these bright beams of light on the top layer..
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7835/7835_1133102726_medium.jpg

i liked more this version..

http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7835/7835_1132874425_medium.jpg

I thing it has more atmosphere and a more dramatic touch. I think these light beams are distracting the viewer to much and take away a bit from this great Atmosphere. And of course the reflections on the water are a bit better in this version i think.

Sorry 4 my small critique, Itīs just something that "I" would change. But you are the Boss!

Nethertheless... You made a fantastic challengework and indeed very spectacular!
Congratulations my Friend!

hey man, i think you captured really great the feeling , your scene shows these two warriors that are about to die for love, i can really sense the tension on the image, those water drops tell a lot, time stoped as u said, theyre about to begin the most spectacular fight! so this precise moment is very spectacular too, is like a quiet dance that involves nerves, thoughts, courage and soul, im very happy to see your final image, and i must say this one is an other art piece for your collection:cool:

Congratulations!!!

YOINKS!!!

Legend!!!

Your image conveys the focused tension and cold calm of the scene very well and I really dig the way you played down the palette...
It was a pleasure to watch you work here mate, thanks, I learned a great deal:bowdown:
I look forward to future yoinks filled encounters;)

May the horse be with you...

Dimi!

Great image in the end! Tense is really building up between the two warriors. But one thing really bothers me is the dark patches on you painted to pop some highlights. Its distracting in a way it takes the eyes really off the main composition. I think the overall image is too dark and i think it should have a hint on the direction of the main light source.

Unless that is you real intent....just my 2 cents worth!

Congrats again n ALL THE BEST!!:applause:

Very well done, Dimi :)
An excellent image all-round and beautifully executed.
If I can find one reasonable crit, it would be that personally I find the near roof tiles (with the drips running from them) disturbingly close to the top of the comps frame, but this is a minor point in an image that portays extremely well the mood of the moment and exudes atmosphere also. Great stuff

Hi Dimmi.
Congrats on the final.
I like the idea.
I like the execution.
I would enyou it more,if whole ambient was bit lighter, cos of wonderfoul dressing you make.
I admire the courage to put the beautyfoul dressing to second perspective by creating dark atmosphere.
Congrats one more time.
Looking forward for another challenge here with you guys.:wavey:
