rattlesnake 10-22-2005, 07:02 AM @ rattlesnake ...heyyy sssnake...how are u?..i hope u like her. How are u mate?
Hye thanx for asking..well im fine..but with lots of work out of the challenge..but i think thats normal ..i only wish some body pay me for doing challenge..lol. that way i can leave my actual job:)
Your texturing for the cloth is great friend..hair is amazing too...i think that maybe the bump on the face is a bit exagerated..but only a bit..but in the medium shots looks very nice..so maybe is better to leave it like that..ok man..ill be following..rig is looking fine.. soon this warrior will be wearing his sword :bounce:

Simpathetic clothes mate... just find the pattern of the inner clothes and at the top of her not very asiatic... but I'm not a specialist... I'm surely said silly things... but the global design is very cool... good job, nothing more to add before ZBcession... :)

Lovely dress and I do think the pattern could work (sorry Lemog) - it looks a bit of Ikat (http://images.google.com/images?q=ikat&sourceid=mozilla-search&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sa=N&tab=wi)type pattern. Great work indeed!

Most Impressive,
You have a great oppurtunity for many mid-motion shots.
I suspect if any characters are stanging still, their clothes can be blown my mythic wind... You know that stuff that can blow into your hair and make it billow even when you are 200 feet underground in a sealed container.
Brilliant work so far. If you mess up too bad I'll be sure to take notes and make sure I don't do it. :D

@ makaron, Mr Micro26, the best,visualact.com,3rd user ...thx frioends ...i am very happy u like her. :)
@ WildWire ... Hey thanks Ralf..i am very happy u like her...i love your style so this a great compliment for me..:bounce: .
@ Fredy ...thx ...Mostly the model is XSI's SubD's and Displacement maps from ZBrush...the base of close is part polygon - part nurbs (converted to Sub's later). The face i imported as full OBJ from ZBrush 'cuase i wanted to have full prev of her geometry in Viewport...filtered the num of Poly's a bit with Filter Op in XSI and taken down the polycount of face to couple of thousands and the applied to that a first Degree SubDivision to it....Poly clothes have 3rd degree SubDivision on them so they can reproduce better the Displacement.
The complete model of her (with textures...all 2k except Dracon 1k ) is about 14 Mbytes file.
....i hope this helps.
@ Zapan ...thanks .I really take it as a compliment that u like my make up work on a model like this...thanku , also i am very happy u like her too with long neck...it kinda makes her look like a Queen , doesn't it?.. :bounce:
@ daWinky ...Thank u...indeed that look was also the most time consuming element in my wip on her. I feel very happy that this shows in the render. :) She is a bit between feeling ironic or ready to kill someone or wanting someone to die..kinda thing...scary look on a face i think..heheheh.
@ Lemog ... i consider it great honour that u like her my friend....:bounce: ...thanks my friend.

tha lady model is awesomw but the skin shader indeed needs some tweaking, first of all she is too darkskinned, especialy for an asian, i usualy use the overall difuse coloration option on the fast skin shader, with first layer scatter map to tweak. if u map everything except overall difuse coloration the shader will be clear, with unscattered weight as your next system of ciontrol. this way u can increase the output of the epidermal layer and still have all the controls u need. im interested, how many maps are you using for her skin shader?
DimitrisLiatsos
11-03-2005, 12:25 PM
@ nebezial ...oh u are right ..there is a lot of experimentation that can dbe done to it...and i surely hope i can do so... Right now it's is only two maps and an incidence illumination texture on a phong shader..pretty basic setup at this point...:) ...thanks for the advise ..i really have to experiment on this ..u are right

Hey Rebecca....:)..thanks..indeed it is very helpfull...all the change u made indeed make her more feminine. The problem i have is ...
a) with your adjustments she changes to a more sympathetic lady ...she looks a bit more vanouroble ...at least to me...which is something idon't want in my image...i need her to look more powerfull...and a bit older..am i making a mistake here ?...(anatomically wise i mean )
b) Breast ...as u painted over must go up a bit...hmmm...maybe u are right ...i see if i can pull this off for the challenge time left...i hope it isn't such a big error...but i may have to press the time to tweak this a bit indeed .
c) Ears...yikes....i hoped i could hide those behind hair...arghhh..yup i have to make ears...probably  ...(just about now i think u realized ...i hate ears...hahahahah :scream:).
Thanks Lady Rebecca ...much apprecaite u took all the time to do this...see what i can squiz in the time i have...
@ visualact.com ...u honor me my friend ..and i am not worthy of this...
@ authentic ...thank u...(love the character in your avatar since the first time u ever post that image). I hope the compo will look descent...not sure yet...:wip:
@ dvelasco ...Hmmm...RebeccaK said that too....maybe i have a bit to soften that area...but i am afraid she might look more feminine and less powerfull...that is the only thing worrying me,,,mmm,,,must experiment...thanks mate.
@ DaddyMack ...Hmmm...good idea...thanks man...i will try this too.
Time is ticking negatively now...tic tac ...tic tac...weeeeeeee! ..thanks boys and girls..most helpfull u 've been ...

11-06-2005, 11:10 PM
Dimi,
I totally agree that she looks much more regal the way you have her...very intimidating, I think I would be afraid if I saw her coming down the street! :) No, absolutely, she must fit into your story...and I admit I made her look much younger, maybe too innocent for the character which you wish to portray. :)
Ear hater! :scream: Lol...I totally understand!!! :scream:
I actually like your exxaggeration / elongation of the figure ~ that adds to her 'regal' feel, so keeping her the way she is now is fantastic ~ I can't wait to see your finished piece! Will they be putting all of the best pieces in a book, I hope?
Very much fun to tweak your beautiful work ~ I wish I could model in the fantastic way that you do! The fabric alone is amazing! :bounce:

I really prefer the 2nd pose. He's like thinking about a kata and in the same time ready to blok an attack; The 1st pose is more bizarre for me, less comprehensible. It seems he's going to fall because he isn't enough crouched.
DimitrisLiatsos
11-07-2005, 11:09 AM
@ Rebeccak ...thanks Lady...oops...wait a minute ..your book...what book...why i learn everything last ?..:) ,...when ?...where?... :bounce:
@ the best ..thanks friend.
@ nemirc, daWinky, IpiotisDinos, Lemog, sergioKomic , authentic ...Thanks friends...indeed the Second Pose is giving more tension...and as u all said ...it kinda gives him that ...attack sense. I will also try to put the arm as SergioKomic says...it might give an extra sense that he is ready to start a kata as Authentic said..(are u doing Martial Arts? :) ) .
The second pose it is then...thanks a lot friends...:bounce: .
P.S;...SergioKomic....hmmm...at least in Ninzuju when the fighter is ready to step hard in front leg and start to swing the back leg ..usually ..when some distance of the oopponent is there...u low hands in order to full the oponent ...the strike comes either from back leg or arm...Hand open palm on the height of opponent's face 9as u suggest) ussually gives away techinque and also suggests that the fighter is ready to accept the opponent's attack....difficult to choose..

BTW I suggest trying standing in that pose yourself my friend, and seeing at what height you feel most poised to launch... Paying close attention to your hips, knees, ankles and ball of foot... For that 'ready to pounce' feel his weight should be almost entirely on his back leg and his feet at between 75 to 85 degrees apart... but that could be taking it all too serious... Just do what works my friend... Boogie on down

...Some progress on him..I must say that my main purpose is to make him look very handsome...the effort to make him look like Jet Li didn't have very good results...so a slightly different approach was taken for him in design....

Tricky composition, but it will be very impressive if you pull it off - can't say much about the models since they are pretty flawless... though I agree about the forehead on the nameless hero, could use a lift... but what the hell.... spiffy!

@ Rebeccak ...:scream: ..thanks Lady...we will soon discuss much about these chars when the challenge finishes 'cuase right now i am making stuff in turbo time.
@ makaron ... YOINKS to you too. :)
@ Gunilla ...yeah..lol...that's what my wife said too...eheheheh...thanks lady.
@ the best,IpiotisDinos ... thanks guys.
@ daWinky ..thanks Lady...he has some errors ...but i don't know what i have the time to fix...hopefully i will make it better until final composition...
@ glenn23 ...thanks friend...last night i saw your baby skin....God ..that was amazing! .
@ Agamemnwn ...thanks man..ears are a bit flat ...but they won't show 'cuase of hair...i am mking stuff real fast now...have to finish this by the end of this week.
@ nebezial ...lol..yeah they were..supposed to be ..(all of them ..) Asian...but now with the little time i have, i have dropped that variable...and just proceed to make a descent complete image....:) ....I just hope it will look cool...
@ nemirc ... Yup...fixed torso my friend.
@ Lemog ...yup my friend the ears are a bit flat but in final render i dought i will show 'cuase of long hair in front of them...Yoinks.:bounce:
@ scootermaya ...thx my friend...his textures will be in shades of grey and black ...but i promise u that his clothes will be the more spectacular thing on him...lol
The workflow now is like this....
1_ texture character.
2_ pose character
3 _make sword of Character.
4_ Zbrush sculpting for clothes.
5_ Render in 3 passes (as idid for all renders so far) _ Hdri Pass_ Reflection Pass_ Ambient Pass_ Shadow Pass. That was the proccess up to now. I have already finished everything except the Nameless Char Renders...I haven't post anything yet 'cuase i need to post them in a manner so that less experienced guys with post work can understand the workflow..so please have some patience with me....i am working just about 4 different projects right now...except the Challenge. :banghead: :banghead:

sorry haven't been back in a while.. you're thread is huge ;p

great texturing..the mistake when making asian is most often in the eyes..the shape is right..but thre angle of the area from eyebrow to eyelid is too diagonal, like a white guy..tasians have that part more vertical..u fiy that..and he goes ohayooo!

Looking really good now! I'm a bit with Lemog on the makeup - a bit more could make him more ... spectacular!

Nice character!
A few suggestions for the look you're after:
The eyes need some fixing.
They seem a bit too small ( asian eyes are covered more with flesh , not quite smaller).
Also the nose could be more wide at the nostrils, or flattened a bit in the bridge, to become more asian.
You could also position the cheekbones a bit higher up, closer to the eyes, and draw them slightly outward, more pronounced.
my two cents...
DimitrisLiatsos
11-15-2005, 03:02 PM
@ Agamemnwn ...thx man...UV mapping ....Head has cylindrical projection and then in UV editor has some relaxing intop head uv 's and under the chin....some soft selection pushing and pulling uv's around ...that's it....it isn't something tremendous difficult...u just have to be carefull and prepare your steps ...even from modeling session..:)
@ Gunilla ... hahaha that ear-emoticon cracked me up...heheheh...thank u ...hahahahah
@ evanfotis ...heeeyyy Evan ...how are u man...call me ....All things u mentioned are most probably very correct but my time on this is less that 2 hours every 2 days ...and i have to finish this by this weekend...i 'll try ...but most probably i will go for the stylized version in my head...along with a balance between coloring suggestion of James and Lemog with Gunilla....
At the momment i am making an animation intro for a racing game..lol....i am racing ten cars....lol :banghead: :banghead: ....arghh
