Update on Thunder...i may go different with the front brown skirt(...in design)...but that i will try later tonight....
Clothes will suffer severe Displacement for ripples and stuff in ZB later.

Displacements are the key for no problems in rigging ...i think...

09-27-2005, 01:11 PM
Groovy enviro, Dimitris! There's some rather obvious tiling on the ground, but I'm sure it was just one of those temporary texture slap-ons.

I can see.... lots of yellow, red and orange leaves on the ground....

09-27-2005, 01:39 PM
Hi ! mate ! very nice job ! you capture the grand feel of chinese architect! yeah , like jame saide , red , yellow , orange leaves blow in the wind ( or you choose rain from your reference?) will be awesome!

JamesMK and monsitj are responsible for revealing the half surprise..(and hard task on this image).

The difficult part won't be the characters or the clothes...but the mood...everything will be wet..rain ..slow rain is falling...(Peter Gabriel came in mind just now).

Lemog , my son..i hope i won't dissapoint u.

The spectacular about all this scene in the movie isn't only the warriors..but how the camera plays with all shades of Grey, Black, Brown, White Grey and...in mine ..Red.

There..half the secret is out...

DimitrisLiatsos
09-27-2005, 02:10 PM
@ JamesMK, monsitj, Lemog ...heya..u made me tell the half surprise...:p .

@ andreja,Gunilla ..thanks friends.:)

@ alexichabane ...thx Alexi. Character wil pass through ZB displacements regarding clothes..it's only half way there...but it will end..i hope.:)

The wetness on the ground tiles looks close to perfect!

The splashes in those barrels seem a bit out of scale though, too big IMHO, unless there's somebody on a roof somewhere throwing potatoes in the water, in which case they look perfect too :D

Yes, it looks good for potatoes throwers. I like this effect a lot though.
Is there a way that you could emphasise a bit the drop hits on the flor, with a bump map for example?

Env Modeling 100% ...Texturing and Lighting in wip. I have set the basic light setup...but it needs some helping hand here and there ...in other words...needs work on lights...texturing is 70-80%. I need to take a brake on this for a while...to clear my mind on how it should look...lighting wise.

Very nice stairs man !

About lighting, I know it is a basic seting, but it looks a little doll from under... perhaps, instead of a directional light, you could try a series of very wide spots slightly tinted brown to create a "mood" below the main objects (roofs) also beware of not showing a sharp shadow like here; in the movie, there is no marks on the floor...
I feel like foolish me, giving you advice !!! You don't need any from me , you are our master !

Shader: Well on its way I think

Lighting: Pretty good too, maybe a little too constant... There's some slightly red tones going on in the back to the left - I'd say you could turn that up a few notches, maybe add a low intensity omni with a lot of red in it to create sort of a localised ambience there.

The overall look lacks some depth as the buildings stack up along the Z making it a bit muddy or nebulous - although I'm pretty sure you only need to add something inbetween: either some very subtle distance haze, or even better some soft mist, such as that one can expect to rise like steam from the warm ground as it is covered with cold rain.

hey man...all is looking so real!, youre really great artist!, the only thing that i feel looks not as realistic as the rest are the white and black pieces, those little kinda spheres on the center, maybe is only me, but somehow they look different that the rest, anyway maybe is just a weird thought on my part, but i really think this is going great, no doubt is one of the best already, :buttrock:

DimitrisLiatsos

@ the best ..thx friend...there will be ...three ...+ 2 (?!?) characters in scene...:scream:

@ Climax ..oh don't worry ...the cam is too back right now...it will be lot closer to the front stairs ...and i am thinking some possibilities or repositioning some stuff to make it more dramatic. thx man!

@ nemirc ...my friend ..a lot 'cause honestly it's the first time that i don't know if i will have the time to finish this...too much work...and i have to leave also soon for a planned (so much time ) trip (not vacation).

@ scootermaya, Lemog, gpepper, Swamps, JamesMK ....:) ...hello guys :bounce: ...Lighting at the present is Very dull and muddy ...i don't know why i never liked imaged based lighting ...that is why the sky is blurred ..it's not the sky just the HDRI used.
I am a bit dissapointed at this point from the look of textures ..the tiling and the lack of depth in scene as James so correctly mentioned. Lemog and Swamps are right...i need to break the repetition of blocks in walls and floor.
Lighting must be planned very carefully. And also it's a very good time to brake the scene in appropriate layers of attention..(already done that though...lol).

The mood i was dreaming isn't there not even in a 5 % ...at least up to now....argghhhh

Thanks friends...most helpfull ..i apreciate this.

@ shtl ...hi friend...i am going to work on it more soon...i just need the courage
to delete all lighting setup i ave now and corect some textures and shaders...and start testing ..again :scream: . Nice to hear from u !

@ SSSSSSSSSnake ...oh Black and white pieces are not finished...simple shader on them (Blinn) with nothing worked there so far...u are right to have that feeling.

All my attention now is focused in getting the right mood by shading and light and camera position. ...which is always the most difficult part i think..lol

Without doubt it's better... just my thought now... always about the little wall (don't kick me:scream: )
For the tile... new thing is a good idea... but for the 2 different colors of stone, I'm partaged...
WHy 2 different stones ? I ask to the monks too...
If it's really a build choice... I think the last stair must have the same color than the wall... it's a wall part, no ?
But I think that will be better and less disturbing (maybe only for me...:banghead: ) if you have the same type of stone for the both... and that will be more in the zen attitude... :surprised

Just if you want... you can increase the contrast between the both with lighting/shadowing... or simpler, with the diffuse of one of them...

For me it's the better choice... and surely sufficient... this little details doasn't have to catch spectators eyes... but, we must anyway "understand" what is the background...

Great modeling !
I like that character a lot... looks exactely like what I was thinking.
About the temple, it looks realy good to me like this...exept on what LEMOG said about the last step, in the same color of the wall : I agree with him on this (not usual but when his wright I have to admit  )
OK I'm cheking on the improvement on the characters... I'm having fun here !

I thought the modeling of the clothes was impressive but now with the texturing...!
Good going!

I'd only change one thing - tighten the weave on the sleeves. The space between the threads is kind of large right now.
Also like that metal a lot but it's a bit rough for the sword hilt. Still, we probably won't be seeing that anyway, so...

I'll be coming back for more. :)

@ rattlesnake ...heyyy sssnake...how are u?..i hope u like her. How are u mate? :)

@ monsitj...hiii THAI POWA! :bounce: ...polygon in viewport looks like that 'cuase i imported the high rez model from ZBrush 'cuase i didn't want XSI to calculate also the Displacement..(time saver in a week machine), after importing the model...i thought to try the FILTER operator in XSI...and hit 1 degree SubD up..hehehe..that is why it looks like this...but it does great work...(better than Polygon Reduce in Maya in any case ..heheheh).
Skin Shader...is not SSS...just the Phong Shader u see on the right.
Excellent point in the eye lid darkening ..just to take away that innocent look..and the eyelash adjust  ..thanks man , haven't thought of that to be honest.
I hope to see more of your work soon my friend... :)

@ Swamps ...hey man...thanks...hmmm..excellent suggestion...i don't know exactly yet how to handle this 'cuase i think Chinese people don't have so much depth in the Eyelid area...but i may be muchhhh wrong...hehehhe...thanks man...much appreciate this tip :applause: .

@ the best ...thanks man..i am glad u like it.

@ yunisirees ...thanks man...hehehe..i am modeling everywhere...anytime i have some free time....this is a scene far more demanding and my time is very little....lol.
