Well I've finished my model and I am just about to layout uvs. I was wondering if it is better to texture the loweres or highres? Also since it is sort of related, should the highres or lowres be bound?

Thanks

I'm not sure if i'm correct about this... but this is the way i do it.

Create a duplicate of the Lowres model. Layout the UV's of this and then smooth it. Its alot easier to layout the UV's of the lowres version. Then I smooth it so that i have all the detail i need in photoshop. After finishing the texturing i hide this under a layer.

Bind the lowres model... its easier and faster to work with. After you've finished animating it you can smooth it.

Then you transfer the UV coordinates from the textured highres model to the bound and animated duplicate (you'll need to apply the shaders to this model aswell)

Anyway, hope this helps;
