View Full Version : Which is Faster...?
TheEmperor 09-05-2005, 07:45 AM Hi...
I'm a Compositor & I mainly work in Combustion.
I have both Combustion 3.0.4 & Shake v2.40.0615 (Windows) installed in my comp.
I'll be starting on a project which is of HD (1920x1080) res by next week.
Cud someone suggest me which one of them is faster for compositing...?

Usually I would say shake. BUT shake '2.4 whatever' is a very old build (in fact I'm kind of wondering why you are still using it ?!?!?) That said Shake is generally faster at high resolution work, better proxies and a DOD/ROI function which is essential for serious 2k/HD work !
Also faster depends what you are doing. What sort of comp. are we talking ?
If you are seriously working HD and film res then you are making high end demmands on your systems. (hardware and software) I would expect you to be using a pretty rigged out machine and up-to-date software. things like system specs RAM, raid hard-drive, effective proxying and good work practises are gonna be the deciding factor in the speed debate.

Shake would be faster (anything is faster than combustion) but since you already know Combustion, wouldn't it be better to keep using that? Shake will actually be slower for you personally because your learning a new application.
Also why are you using a 5 year old version of shake and you don't even have the newest version of 2.4? There were 6 major bug patches for 2.4 after version 2.40.0615.

Shake is the best, simple to learn and start.
Combustion by the time u see the interface and understand is bit difficult for the starters...

Shake would be faster (anything is faster than combustion) :chuckles.....waits 10 minute for combustion workspace to load.....waits 10 minutes to advance one frame...chuckles less !
