View Full Version : simple texturing/rendering questions
billrobertson42 09-05-2005, 07:34 AM Ok, I have a couple of questions. I want to do a simple render of an area of a kitchen. I picked a random mountain scene for the view from the "window", and created a simple tileable bitmap for the floor texture.
I would like for the floor texture to be repeated in smaller, square tiles on the floor, and the mountain scene to fill the "window" plane entirely, and with the right orientation. :)
How do you do that in rhino? Or where to go to figure that stuff out? Or is it just better done somewhere else?
The render is just darn funny. ;)
Thanks
*edit - attached the floor texture *

Hi!
Do you have Flamingo for Rhino? Because if you dont have it, you cannot make a tileable texture...
Best tool for this action would be MAX or Maya or some program similar to those.

Step 1:
> I would probably take that small floor gif, turn it into a bmp or jpeg
> Open up a current Flamingo Plugin material like Car Paint black
> Right click on one say Black or White click Edit
> Go to Base then click on Map
> Then click on add, and click on your floor gif,
> You would probably have to tinker with it, like the size and other things, bump etc etc.
Step 2:
> Open up photoshop create an accurate size of the floor or amount of tiles you want, ie: multiple tiles save it as a jpeg or bmp
> Create a flat floor/surface
> Apply as a planar decal under Properties > Decal > Add
> Depending on the orientation I usually do right bottom corner, then left then top.
Step 3:
> Alternatively if you want to be accurate, you can create the size of your floor,
> Render in top view,
> Open up in Photoshop
> Apply your tiles on to that document
> Save as Jpeg or bmp
> Then apply as a planar decal or
> Without Flamingo > apply as an object properties
> basic > Texture Bitmap
Good Luck.
