walrus 09-24-2005, 01:45 PM Love the angle on that last sketch! More dramatic, though it does make the whole composition taller/thinner.
Good luck (not getting caught at work! :) )

The last one is the best yet, I hope you go with it. There is a great feeling of space and a really authentic atmosphere. If you colour as well as you sketch then you're sorted

...but it seems that is falling to the right.. I think u should change the moon direction from right to the left... than it would be better balanced and more effective I think.
Hey mike,
I think thatīs an excellent suggestion.

stlill thik it's beatyful idea, but I like the previues better, this looks little flat, the other one has more depth, and for this kind of take you need it,
it's like opening shot to the movie, that was very impresive :)

Definitely a better angle to see everything that you need to see in the pic. I just think you lost emphasis on the characters launching those lanterns. But I guess, the scene's not really about the characters. Just one question: How are there lanterns closer to the foreground if they're releasing the things at the top of the mountain and are suppose to go towards the moon? Coz the street dont look like a pretty good place to launch the lanterns coz of those street obstacles blocking the sky. Perhaps the wind carried them towards the foreground then? :) Anyways, Moon shattering + ritual with pretty lights = Spectacular

hello guys~i made ail changes due to blaz comments on the earth being on the right that makes the whole composition seems alil to heavy to the right, just a test on the composition, this hasnt being finalised yet~though i have decided on how and what i want according to the way it looks for the current skecth.thanks again friends

Korline - thanks alot mate~yeah i actually prefered the previous sketch too, when i did this color sketch,i didnt have the lineart sketch as a reference and i did it all over from scratch, thats why it looks slightly different:)thanks again and i'll keep improving
monsitj,kemar and squibbit,artjunkie - many thanks buddy~:bounce:

ahbeejieh - thanks alot, yeah u are right about where they launch the lanterns, its alil too rough to show it in the sketch, they are actually launching those lanterns on the top of one of those buildings where u cant see it for the time being since its very rough now,no worries, yeah,i'm not actually emphasizing on how those character gonna launch the lanterns but wil be showing alil on the characters details.:)i'll post the story when i have finalised with the lineart

The tilted angle helps heighten the image and give a more dramatic perspective, though it is a little more difficult to make out the foreground in this version - I'm sure it won't be an issue as soon as it gets cleaned up. I love the color scheme - very spacious and airy.

09-28-2005, 09:18 AM
Hi Mike,
i very much like the 3rd and the 4th version the most but if I had to choose I would prefer the 3rd one.
Because it has the best balance between the colors. In the other images the laterns are melting to much with the background. Just my impression.

09-28-2005, 09:29 AM
Good stuff Zheng!! very geat sketch, nice colors and lighting..i agree with Fahrija, i prefer the 3rd...because laterns are more contrasted with background than with the other compos..i like especially the way you work with the textures..so, i'll come forward see your next update...keep going and good luck!:)

09-28-2005, 10:25 AM
oef hard to choose they're all looking great, but I think I prefer the 4th, the sepia look works really well.
Like Beelow said the colorways give different moods and I think he pretty much nailed em, so I guess it's up to you what kinda mood you're looking for.
Zephyri
09-28-2005, 06:01 PM
Hey Sh@ke, I really love this! The colour moods are all lovely, but my eye is drawn to the bluer concept in the bottom left, as I think it offers the best contrast with the laterns and is a little more unusual., but there is no reason why you couldn't combine elements from the others, I quite like the sky of the sepia one on bottom right, too. Lovely work this far though!

Arc80
09-29-2005, 03:56 AM
The first one has a nice balance in terms of having a warm and cool colours, but the 4th one has this old traditiional kinda look and feel to it, which i personally think works well with the story. On the other hand, the first one has a very enchanting, mystical quality to.
Crap...hard to choose, but for me 1 or 4 works very well
cheers

once again a great choice, choosing the orange color for which I think its the most powerfull color in geting into our emotion. Its close to red but not so hostile and a total contrast to the green which is peacefull and an easy color. All those lights will definetely bring a dynamic feeling and at the same time very well fill the bottom of the pic. Keep up the good work buddy!

starting to lit up the whole scene..Nice keep up!
somehow, the left bottom latern Upper lid perspective is a little bother me...
Am i wrong?!.. Hee...but u r way better than me in anything..
esp the HOT NAKED WOMAN i missed so much...
will u make at least ONE Lady face to us... it;s so pity to look at their back ...haha.
p/s: Probably u haf to design a logical construction to lift up the Lantern on their back.. Make tos strings connect from each corners of latern to the long stick. This will makes a more gravity-convincing design. Else it suppose to be "bengkok sikit" lor..hehe..

Your colors are amazing! Great mystique, atmosphere and depth. It really evokes many feelings even though its not finished.. :) It kinda feels like you are a child walking up the stairs, looking up from below on this amazing view..
The top lid on the closest lantern as mentioned doesnt seem to fit the perspective.. Maybe im wrong but there is certainly something that makes you feel it is wrong.
Good luck!

Mike,
Sorry 1st, I dun knw how to advise on dat shattered piece of Planet above the sky.
For us who oredi follows ur thread all these days, der will be no question bout it.
In case for First viewer, they might imagine dat's a flock of dark clouds only.
Pls do something bout it. even though i got no idea to develop it into more Obvious shattered piece cover by cloud.
the Latern at right side under the metal bridge seems to be too outstanding Or Contrast.
Maybe u should make it smaller?..
the rest of details is making me drooling.
Btw, i oredi accept the cruel fact bout the Hot stuff. U hurt me so much, man. My anticipation is broken.

Amazing render, very subtle detailing. Cant wait to see it done. I have a "but" al well...
I can't figure out what is the object in the clouds, but I think it'll be clear when the img is finished. As I read - it's the planet, but it's not clear... Maybe you could paint the fiery clouds, like in the "Independance Day", when the aliens come from above the clouds... they change to kinda fiery storm. That implies that they enter the atmosphere with some impact, like this planet could. Now the clouds just dissolve without any interaction. Hope that helps.

dinodog_Jr and MikeTheHunter - thank both of u for the precious comments, actually, the reason i tried not to apply the firery effects on to the shattered plannet becoz it has been there for decades, since its above the clouds,i made it so its more than merely visible and having it too obvious would seem alil weired,i'll somehow sharpen up slightly and apply what both of u have mentioned and see how it goes.thanks for the input friends:)its very much appreciated

it's a planet up there and not a falling meteor or something

almost there! - I don't know what you would add to make it the Final Image - your work has inspired me from the beginning of this challenge - and the changes you have made as you have gone along seem very ordered and considered. Very beautiful.

so this is it i guess~'m done with the piece, spend sleepless hours last nite till this morning~finally, here it goes
Mother Earth was a beautiful place where living being thrived, but that was another page of history since it was depleted of natural resourse and the ability to provide for the living.Where when it almost come to a breaking point that Earth cannot sustain life, humans however have but limited choice ,one of the more sensible choice,to leave Earth and to fine a new habitable planet to live in.However, the space technologi was rush and wasnt perfected.Human colonies on these ''habitable'' planets looked far from being a civilised nation.though they were living quite well, they were working hard to make their new planet more Earth-like,much like what we remembered it so long ago.Though Earth has been a 'dead' planet to them, people pay homage to her by offereing the lantern of light and hope to her,as if they are moaning for their broken haven
