Agamemnwn - jddog - mmoir - kmest - thierry2005 - beelow - DaddyMack - el_newty - Maxter -> Thanks to your all for this good support, unfortunetely, as usually, I can't really work on the project the week-end... then, more update this week I hope... with books, staircase, decorative objects and certainly funny wallpapers.
(o)ne -> books come certainly tomorrow... I must wait to receive my amazon order :scream:
le_pou -> Hé mon ami... vraiment content de te voir ici, merci
I think I see a space on the bookshelf for the 'The Lemog' book! You think certainly of oldest and heaviest book of the collection, not ? hahahaha :banghead:
Adriano -> Hey my friend... details ? hahaha... you know that's my way of life
PhilPJ -> As you can see, another time here... it's stronger than me... I hope you like my project... thank you so much to support me my friend Phil :wavey:
Gpepper -> Content de te retrouver sur les ondes... very happy you're here know...
Hi Lemog, check the proportions of your racks.
The space in the wall and the otrher elements have bigger proportions.
Maybe your books have a 1 m. or 4 feet. I think this is big for a book.
Perhaps the racks should be 8 or 10 in the same place.
The decoration will not allow to remove books easily.
Cheers. Good skill. Are you architect, don´t you?
No mate, I'm not architect... but I can assure you about the proportion... they're correct for my project. You certainly do a scale mistake about these niches because the little door you're imagine biggest... in fact, there's only 50 cm between 2 shelves and 40 cm of depth., and there's certainly not books over 40 cm in the shelfs, what will make it possible to remove them easily, in spite of decorations. In the case of larger books, they could take seat in the higher part, which it's higher.
Thanks for your comments and your interest.
Cartesius -> Hey Anders, I'm so glad to see again in this challenge... I've very good memories of your work in the MachineFlesh Challenge... Best wishes for you buddy...
Gunilla -> Hello girl... Happy you like my racks... about books, I'm currently running after the cows, I hope that leather will be beautiful... :wavey:

At the beginning of dunjeon creation, I've planed to put some "monks" at the top of columns... and after, I forget it.

Another wiew with these Monks... but finally, they don't agree me at 100%.
Actually, I was thinking the same... I don't know, they are very cool but somehow they seem a bit out of style - have you made them from a reference? From a distance they look a bit like gnomes. Maybe you should have them standing instead? With a book or a staff in their hands?
Rebeccak
09-19-2005, 04:03 PM
Maybe they look too much like buddhas? I agree, I don't like the monks quite so much as the rest...but figures are definitely cool to have! How about gargoyles? :)

When I say "Monks"... it's only the "name" I want to give us... for sure, I don't want real "monks"... no religion here... but really the "monks attitude" front of studies, knowledge, and especially front of the "Plungeon in the Culture" :deal:
makaron
09-19-2005, 04:08 PM
agree with Gunilla, the monks maybe looking better standing up. one Q, it looks like your monks wearing pants. Do monks have pants? or is it just me that see it like that?

I think Gunilla's idea of gargoyles is great...they could be reading, have reading glasses, maybe a sandwich or two...:scream:
Maybe gargoyles reading under the lamp of knowledge? :scream:
I don't think I took these to be anything but secular 'monks'...there is definitely a cool pagan thing going on here which I really like!

How about the monks standing upp in their places doing ordinary jobs. one can read a book while holding a monocial glass so he can see it . Another can try to reach a book from the book rack like he was alive but still you can see that he is made of stone. I was thinking that you can put them as a living part of the library maybe they even indirectly look att the character to make the theme more spooky :D The library looks alive anyway with the decorations and the ornaments and this will make the place more mysterious and spectacular IMHO

Fur sure, the result can be very Spectacular  hahahaha
Agamemnwn -> Oh Jannis, it's really a very good idea, but I think to remain like that for the moment.
But I nevertheless will keep this idea in a corner of my head, according to the future environment of the scene, but I wouldn't like that this detail can distract from the true action.
Thanks a lot... and maybe, If I have time in the final way :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: very funny and very interesting idea... :applause:

Maybe some torn corners, scratches and such - but I'm sure you come to that in time I'm not totally sure with that... or just on very little number of book... all these textures are not super new and clean... but really comes of old books... and finally, that surely depend of the final framing... and also depend of the darkness of the mood...

It's very simpathetic of you mate, but I don't think, my choice of concept is a little special, different... not very spectacular at first view... I'm really here for the pleasure... and if my first goal was to win... I've certainly choose something with more action... don't know.

That give me for the 2 library a total of 46 different textures, and a total of 146 books... I can easily mix these books to obtain the over libraries.

If I was to offer critique again I'd say that the saturation on the paving is distracting from the rest of the image... I find my eyes drawn more to the ground because of the sudden colour... But...but... where is the beer can??
Ok another good shot.
Well done
Another can ? don't move and watch... very soon, you have more
Violent ! ça va vraiment être monstrueux une fois tout assemblé !
ça commence d'ailleurs à être assez violent par rapport aux nombre de polygones... :argh:
And after "Prospero's book" a family likeness of "Au nom de la rose" ! of course...
Oui, j'y ai pensé... j'aurais bien aimé revoir la fin, lorsqu'ils sont dans la tour... Thanks for your comment Dominique :)
Waouw, nice update here... and the wallpapers are excellent!! lol Really fun!
The "niches" are excellent too... nice modeling render and texture... looking good so far...Keep it up!!
More wallpaper comes mate... but I may to continue the scene anyway... but it's stronger than me... I like to make funny things... finally, I'm a real young boy :scream: (and no comments pliz hahahahahaha)
This is so beautiful ... I agree with Dimi, this might become your very best
Your so kink, but are you really sure... it's finally very simple... just a seembly of simple modeling, not ? well... we will see soon, with the next step... and for sure, with the character... more complicated for me I think... anyway... Thanks a lot for this comment Gunilla...
Gadzooks!! this is looking great Lemog... What an absolutely epic scene
If I was to offer critique again I'd say that the saturation on the paving is distracting from the rest of the image... I find my eyes drawn more to the ground because of the sudden colour... Also, the little guys reading books, they look a little precarious... as if they might fall off their pedestals (see left most one in your last image)
Thanks for your good advices Daddy...
In first, as I said before... I don't work more for the moment on the paving, I will just waiting the next steps, and the all over details... and for sure, the final framing to finish to set it.
Actually, I'm not in the same condition of rendering than the final way... It's just setting for Wip Renders.
About Monks Reader... according the camera framing, that agree me or not... that depend. The only thing I can say, it's that they're not likely to fall, as for the gargoyles of cathedrals, with a good mortar, that holds very well. :D hahahaha
Meatcakes, anyone? Amazing work!!! The librarians are adorable...
Wait a minute girl... I will catch some librarians to recover the recipe  :banghead:

Books and niches look excellent!
The whole thing incidently makes me think of "The name of the rose" by Umberto Eco, with the big secret library maze.
Otherwise I'm curious to see how these things would look rendered with some nice and bright sunlight at some point, as they look a little sad and grey now :D

You're right James... your not the only one to think at this movie... That make many years I don't see it... and I don't know If I must watching it... is it good to be inspired so much or not...
For the light, it's not the final ones, for sure. But my first goal is to obtain a really grey environment, to have a best contrast with the character... but remain me much work here, and certainly the lightning go to evolving... but why not... some touches of bright sunlight is certainly a good idea to try a day, thanks for your always good advices and your iinterest James

Continuation of the lamp modeling... with the addition of a kind of virgin creeper.
Why a plant message here, only because at the beginning, the plant is small, naked, as this body is virgin, it doesn't have yet grows, it didn't open out yet.
It's the culture contained in this dunjeon room and these books which will allow to grow, to open out, in order to acquire the lights of knowledge.
I go besides finished the lamp, at the top, by a luminous corolla of a flower, opened out ;-)

Well... I'm a little disapointed... I don't know this word "kinky"... but I know "Histoire d'O"... it's if exactly this feeling that risk to give to the scene, maybe better I don't use this kind of lamp...
...just for information, this lump is not very high... it's not a "big" statue... just a lamp separation between grids of balcony. and the most important, and the most viewing will be the light and its corolla...
mmmmh, I don't know if I continue to following this way

Oh well... I understand better... in fact, I've don't planed to display her from the back (as you can see, no leaves at this side)... The Swedish mind is not really different than the others... but I was too much absorbed by my work... and I don't think to that while posting this render... it's only to display the support for the balcony grid... to explain the construction. Sometimes, I'm very silly you know.
Then... I continue in this way... and you can stop me if I restart to do some silly things :deal:

I'm really sorry if I offended you... to tell the truth, I were especially worried by the work of modeling, and I didn't think of evil or sad things...
I hope that with textures we will not pay too any more attention to this detail, and to reassure you, we will not see the back part in the final scene.

... the only thing we can say, it that in the XIXth century style... but the back was so much "avant-garde" :scream:
lol, exactly :D Or maybe rather "derrière-garde"

The Swedish mind is not really different than the others... but I was too much absorbed by my work... and I don't think to that while posting this render
That's what I thought ... now continue with your "derrière-garde", they will be splendid supports for the balconys :D
thanks for bringing some fun to this otherwise boring morning :)

First test of texturing for the lamp... I want something really discreet... this lamp it doesn't the most important piece in the scene.
I must choose between this one with some contrast for body and vines... and the next version.

Congratulations on this thread of yours. I've been going through the pages and it's been a lot of fun! :applause:
You're probably the first modeler I find that goes through the trouble of actually modeling everything in a scene like you would do with objects in the real world, even when there's no real need for it. I was begining to think I was the only one! :D
I've been wondering, though - what method do you use for the carvings on the columns? Do you model those details aside and stick them on the main model, extrude them, zbrush them or what? I think they're what I like the most - they look real cool.
Love the books, too. Great textures.
I can't wait to see this with the lighting done.

Waouwww... what's happen here... what a story for a lamp.... oh the back ... omg.... poor girl... ... anyway, the front is very cool... for now i prefer the contrasted version we can see more of the beautiful modeling... but depend on your scene... it's a good modeling and textures... keep it going!! :bounce:
et merci pour ce Super French Nut!!! lol very funny!! :scream:

I can reassure you... I don't work like that in my job... imagine the face of my boss:scream:
I was begining to think I was the only one!
Well... you too have the details passion... If you're interesting, you can take a look on my website... there's with all details, all nuts, screw and over cables...

Very simple... I just model these details apart... but I always used the same mapping projection to have the same grain... that's all.
Thanks for your comments Sonia

Display the modeling is not the finality... but I want to have something decorative, but a little discreet. As you said, depend of the scene...
I certainly wait until next week to take my decision, thanks for your advice Simon

Well honey... thank you... Finally, I think that you are worse than me, and than you still want always more :scream: hahahahahahahahahaha perhaps I will choose some new textures, skin of panther and black latex :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Aside from the whole egg-saving business, I'm inclined to vote for the low contrast version. It looks less forced somehow.

Ok i need to keep up with da super french ut. When i first saw the lamp i thought to myself. Well he is french what can you say. Then came the bondage of the girl straped on a pole with a lamp over her head.hmmm to much emmanuelle? the story of 0 maybe? or just say he is french kinky is in their nature :scream::D
If I can do something to make me forgive, don't hesitate to ask me. :scream:
You're totally forgiven...in fact I wasn't offended at all !!!:D (putain, c'est ma façon de parler second degré qui passe mal en anglais,c'est ça). Rightly, last year I was in a class which was for the most part made up of boys : I let you imagine what sort of atmosphere there was. I had fun, but the better was to not be chocked by some things or some jokes, you see.
But if you insist to be forgiven, maybe I'll have some work for you, hum...modeling, texturing....I joke!:bounce:
So, carry on, and don't be disrupted if I said something silly.:D :bounce:

I don't think that I will start again the debate, but I recall to our dear spectators that the concept is cultural, only culture and knowledge :scream:

Hahahahaha no problem girl...
I had understood well, me also I am the king of the second degree, even more :D
One of the first reason to be here, it's to have fun, but always with the respect of the others, we don't forget it.

hi lemog your work is going on well but if u don't mind please remove the xtra part from the middle lamp pole.As when u see the middle pole render and then the lady sitting on it,it shows lot of pain (as an artist emotions).

Lemog, if you ask me witch one is better, I say the 2nd image :)
But... ouch... that's gona hurts... can't you find another way to make that stik & body transition, something like the girl's legs fade from that stik.
I'm not very confortable with that stick stucked in the girl's... back.
Maybe you can change it... It's just my opinion.
Good luck
