I like these updates! Nice work. The only crit I have on this last picture is that the right hand of the boy touching the tree looks like it is broken at the wrist. Keep up the good work and enjoy the process!

Hahaha, good one Rebecca! :)... though I feel some days I could use a little bit of that knowledge myself :P (they're making tagless undershirts... why not tagless boxers?!?! </rant>)
You continually cause me to drop my jaw, Laurent... truly amazing. Do you have anything unexpected up your sleeves still, or can we expect some initial renderings of all the elements soon? I know you'll probably want to do some post-effects and stuff but the end appears to be in sight! Congratulations on this masterpiece that is nearing completion :)

In fact, I've planed for today the renders of these WildKids...
but there was a problem of rendering this night, especially on the level of the hairs and vegetation. Was needed that I cuts the file in several parts, and to start again rendering. They're currently in hand.
And if it's okay... maybe something to see today...
Thanks Jeff for your words

Good morning Laurent!
I'm a little late this morning and have to go through all these updates...and find it unbelievable again how fast you are working:eek: . No crits from me, the poses are just right and natural:) ...and I have to wipe my eyes again because of the changes they bring in the scene. I was a little afraid that they could disturb the context, but now I see that it is the opposite. May be they are just the ice on the cake!

This is a great example of a picture that speaks for itself. I didn't understand your concept when I read it but now that you have made this beautiful picture, I understand the concept completely and I like it alot. I like especially the room for interpretation. Very nice work. Did you assign polygonal objects to layers and render that way? Or did you hide everything but, say perhaps, one kid and render him alone? I don't even think my p4 could render all of this in one shot...

You know... the story is a thing, and the image an another thing... and all spectators are differents, about thier culture, knowledge, skills, taste...etc... and of course, they're all a different vision and different interpretation... with or with message or story inside... the picture rest a picture... the most important is to feel something, and to take pleasure to watching it... that all...
About the renders... I used many technics... and in this case, I used 19 different files...
http://lemog.club.fr/lemog/mayalounge/divers/files.jpg
Each important parts are rendered separately... and with 2 renders... a first with the "part" to render and all the other parts with a shader "use background" wich permit me to keep the real shadows, alpha and Z, and a second render, with just the "part" to the render... to have these 2 versions permit me to have the best possibillities of compositing.
In any case, my PIII with only 1go ram coudln't render the complete scene of 5,5 millions polys, with 100 mo of textures, and all the PaintFX in one shot :scream:
The most important to save time, and to save your computer, is to really know what do you want... and to have a good process, a good organization, and manage well the files... after, that can be easy... even with an old machine :D
Agamemnwn
11-30-2005, 06:06 AM
great progress laurent . i use the same technique to render them and i have the main scene with all the other components referenced in that scene. but my PIII has only 384 mb ram and it fails all the time .

Yes... of course... 384 appear very short... but not impossible... Maya manage well the memory... just take care to doesn't use greedy renderer :scream:

To be honest, I'm having a hard time telling the difference between the four of these. Part of that could be because I lack a keen eye for color and part could be the fact that I need to scroll to see them. I think it would be helpful if you posted the four options side by side so that the moods can be compared more closely. Beautiful work anyhow!

Ya know, now that you say that... I definitely agree. I was just looking at the individual elements, but #3 definitely integrates the children in a more appropriate manner than #1.
The children are nice and vibrant in #1... but they are not supposed to be the main focus at all. They are much better in #3... good insight :)

and last one for today, I must acknowledge that's my prefered one now... I follow the previous way of the #5 and #6... but with a better contrast for details...
I really hope you prefer this one... my heart balance now with the ancient #3 and this one, the #7.
I will do new rendering next night for the very latest tests of tomorrow... end is front of my door now.

#7 is better than #3 imho.
but #6 is very good too and i tend to prefer this one. the reduced contrast dont make the cold wildkids stand up so much.

The differences now are so small that it can be down to what monitor you have - but I agree with you, 7th or the 3rd - I actually prefer the 3rd I think, it comes out a bit softer on my screen but I think both are really beautiful.
Does this mean you're going to finish with several days left?

Ok, just a joke about the 7 differences on the pictures.

Lot of thanks to you all,
Gunilla, lukep, Zapan, Monsitj, Tuck, Rattlesnake, Nomad, Thierry2005, Nemirc...
I read your interesting remarks, and I will try to resume that with the next picture.
Yesterday, I print the both on photo paper... and effectively, now, the differences appear finaly really minor... less than for me, when I work on its.
The less warm aspect of the #3 + the better contrast of detail of the #7...
The 2 last rendering of the night doesn't give me other better result... I will not show them.
...then, maybe soon with the final one  Thanks my friends for help during this challenge

The Real Knowledge's Face...
What is Knowledge ? Certainly what it push us to grow, to evolve, to be better, to be more interesting.
Knowledge push us towards certain goals which can give us better life, and of course, interesting life, in fact, the reason to live.
To what seem Knowledge ? Knowledge must certainly be compared to the most beautiful living thing in our life... and if we must give a face to Knowledge, we can certainly offer it the one of the woman. That also give to Knowledge this part of Wisdom, of the woman, or maybe as a mother.
It's also the role of a girl, to exprim a kind of desire, a kind of beauty, she's beautiful as Knowledge.
She have some simple clothes, but richly orned, inspired by the 1900' style, current symbol of the Knowledge and Techniques Revolution. A style already inspired by Ancient Egypt, another great symbol of an old and very important Culture.
She's the Mother of our knowledge. But she only can grow thanks to the know, to the learn, to the experience, to the skills... She builds of these books sheets, which contain the main of Knowledge. These are our bases.
This Knowledge, accumulated during lot of centuries, by the people of our earth, seem emerge of the hole, or more of the Knowledge's Well...
This Knowledge Mother carry the symbol of these stored Knowledge, the grand book... Open towards the futur, it left fly away, disperse, this Knowledge materialized by this flight of thirteen BlueBirds.
These are the birds which will offer to all the people around the world, this richness of Knowledge.
This Knowledge represent the real light of our life, our existence. It offer us the luminous emanation, almost magical, in this old medieval library symbol of these passed years, constituted more and more of this Knowledge thanks to its many books.
It the only thing which can permit us to leave the primitive life, to leave this sad life, sadness representing by this sad and cold forest, with naked sad trees.
We can understand the attirance about this new interesting and rich life. It's enough to watch these Wildkids, they feel the magic attraction of this Knowledge which push them to evolve, for their good, their happiness, and the one of their own society.
All people on earth can have access to the Knowledge, as representend by these five Wildkids because they come from the five continents.
No discimination can exists about Knowledge, it's the real Knowledge's Face !

Hahaha, now that sounds almost...kinky? :D
There been some really fun moments during this challenge, with lots of laughs and silly jokes - and also some really good discussions on art and techniques.
Who will forget the bondage technique for virgin lamps? The art of rubber suit making? The mystery of the disappearing sixth (korean) Wildkid? :scream:
A special thank to you too

:D hahaha
Nevertheless, I will not spend more time to work on my images than on my children, but if my memories are good, your daughters are very nice also, like what, your children end mine have the incredible chance to doesn't seem to their fathers.

hey, great work! I was thinking though.. maybe the lady needs a skin shader or something? her skin looks so harsh compared to the beautifull more soft lighting on the other objects... It might help make her look more alife. She's got just a bit of a hint of a wooden puppet look to her right now I think...

hmmm... so sorry, I'm very late today... too much work at job... and some little prob of life...
A chance for me I post the Final Image yesterday... if not... no time for 3 days to finish it...:banghead:
daWinky -> you're right, many changements during the challenge... it's certainly due to the lenght of this challenge, 3 months, that give too much time to think... and I hope that's a good thing. But I can assure you that the same feeling for me, following your thread and share our passion and kindnes was a particulary pleasant and intense moment... I'm waiting the next one very impatiently... or more simply, an another project of one of us, here, and soon... :p
Jaba153 -> quoi ?? enfin ?? hahahahaha... Thanks Mathieu for you encouragements and wishes...
SoniaNotRed -> Thanks a lot, that was a great pleasure for me that you follow my work and my thread... always very simpathetic moments... I send you some red french kisses then...
-OZ- -> Thanks for your wishes Fabio... and as you said, I just hope that this image is not to complicated to understand... hahaha
Denverbz -> again thank you Alan
Madshooter -> yes man... it's done for us now... good thing, just remain us to wait the final judging... that I hope shorter than in the previous challenge...
Rayraz -> Hello, I think to understand your point of view about her skin... but I can assure that she really have a real shader for her skin... but maybe are you disappointed by the fact that she doesn't have some SSS or assimilited shader.... there's a simple reason to that... SSS work very good in interior, with skin watching very closed... in that kind of framing and environment, the SSS completly lose it's effects. Her skin is really a choice.. I'm just sorry you doesn't appreciate her look. Thanks anyway for you remark.
Adel3d -> Hey Mister PersianCG... thanks for your wishes, kind of you... and another time, I'm sure you could be at the top of the judge selection, your project is already incredible for me... and so beautiful... Thanks Adel
Agamemnwn -> Thanks Jannis... you wishes are great for me... but there's lot of interesting beautiful project in this challenge... a lot of better finally... and maybe more in the subject. But before all, I choose to realize a picture which seems to me... often "out fashion".
SuperXCM -> héhé... maybe too much work comparing with all the work ? hahaha... In any case, I had lot of good time here with you all, and that, it's the most incredible... the real great experience... merci pour tes encouragements Super Simon !
Rebeccak -> Yes girl... finish, really... mmmh I hope... and for the fun... I can work without fun... often when our own feeling is not good, I try to do the things with much fun... very important to appreciate the life. Then, thank you for your indescriptible support during these 3 months Beckie... I took lot of pleasure all the morning to read your always very kind message... and I hope meet you soon on thread a little more 2d... :deal:
Beelow -> Thanks a lot Bryce... and of course... see you in the next one...
Bouledpue -> Merci beaucoup Axel
jddog -> Okay for the CGS Party... don't forget the beer then...
Gunie -> Oh dear... about wallpaper... I don't think to have time soon... always many ideas in my mind, by exemple, I will be happy to realize the "WildKids in concert live", but not possible for the moment... but it's no so serious, there will be other images in the future, and we will be always together here honey. And the next challenge will be certainly to finish our new personal WebSite...
Fredy -> Thanks for wishes Mohammad... I've just take a tour on your thread, I apoligize to doesn't discover it before, but I can assure that your work is outstanding... you can be proud about your skill mate, really.
Zapan -> you're okay for the next one... I note that mate... good choice.
Raistlin -> Whaouw... you're here for the final my friend, I'm so happy you know... and your words touch me a lot... we will see soon if you're right... à bientôt Vince, et mes amitiés à ta charmante épouse :wavey:

where are you while there are no challenge? maya forum or something? :)
I'm always here... or not so far... and with always lot of personal projects... always runnig towards more time... and always less sleep :scream:
I'm already on a big project... many months of work... and certainly more than 1 year... but I will try anyway to participate to the next challenge, of course... the mood here is always incredible of kindness... and that permit to share a lot about our passion, it's great
denverbz -> yes and no... to win time... I started to draw in photoshop... very rough... just to try to keep my real proportion... and quickly... I go to work with Painter, and there, it's an another story... I can find the same feeling than in the past... with real oil paintings... and ancient passion :bounce: , but now... wih a blend of PainterX and Wacom...
...and I finish in photoshop to correct tones, eventually while adding some effects or matters... that all...
I work on it certainly between 15 and 20 hours...

Héhé... as you can see... it's hard for me to say "bye-bye"... when it's finish, it's never finish... I can't :D
Thanks for the recipe... I know that... not really effective on me (even if it's pleasant to drink)... but I don't sleep for many reasons... usually, I don't need lot of sleep... 5 hours or less is sufficient for me... the second reason, it's when I'm a little nervous to have to many projects in my mind... I can't sleep... :bounce:
But when I'm not "under pressure"... I can sleep normally
Thanks to take care of my health... very kind Sabie...
That make me think to something... I hope it's always no cigarettes for you

Yes - this new 2d is beautiful... I really like the lighting in it - very good mood.
5 hours of sleep ... yes that was me some months ago - now I'm sleeping as long as I can...the challenge have left me very tired this time.
to Sabrina: Good work not to smoke! :applause:
Don't worry about the nicotine plasters, I'm still using both nicotine chewing gum and Snus (tobacco you put under the lip), if I didn't I probably go nuts... Hey wait, what am I saying in this thread?! Going Nuts is my goal! :D
So, just wanted to come by to do some spamming - I'm having a hard time to finish too
