First of all thanks a million for the encouragment people...

I havent really thought of the exact characters for this (characteristics etc...) but the theme will be the following... a homeless man sees his only friend, a cat (or dog not sure yet)rush into a building that is on fire... The man rushes to the pets aid and when he gets out he has severe burn injuries but he cries out of happiness and not pain for saving his friend...

What do you think of the idea? Is it spectacular enough?

This is just a doodle....

I'd say that fits into the emotional-spectacular folder somehow - tricky to pull off, but very effective if successful.

Nice concept, and good luck!

I started on the cat today but I am not all that satisfied with it yet... Looks like it has the face of a tiger of sorts... Anyway... This is a double- subdivided mesh of a low res model so it will lokk undefined in areas... I will start adding more details tomorrow...

Comments and suggestions always welcome...

Thanks in advance

i worked on the cat to get the propotions right... i am using some photos of my cat... the damned cat wont stay still to get a clear side, front and top view so everything gets done by approximation... still lots of work to be done...

Hope you like it...

Really looking forward to comments and suggestions...

Not sure about the body shape, granted it will be covered in fur...but the shape doesn't seem right. Do you have reference images we can see...to get an idea what you are modeling from?

JamesMK

Looks a bit too wide for a cat IMHO, among other things, but that should be easy enough to fix .

Ok... changed the proportions a lot.. can't seem to find any good cat references and since my cat is really fat, he can't be of much use to me right now.. i am trying a street cat type (the not so fat, not so thin type)... made the ears smaller too, made him shorter and made him less lengthy too... The legs are more muscly now too...

If you have a site with good cat reference, please post it here so that i can see my mistakes and correct them...

Hope you like it....

I started working on the base for the man in my idea... just to clear my head off the cat... i will return to it in time... i just have to get my mind off it a bit...

So, what do you think?

This is just the base model that i created... just basic stuff... i will add more details shortly...

First of all, thanks a million for your comments and support... Dimitri, thanks for the photos (the comic cat rules....

I have had serious problems with my pc and had to format the disk (luckily i had already backed up what i needed)... The pc went crazy and poped one blue screen after the other...

I started detailing the face... Wanted to create a face that expresses pain, sgony and sorrow.... Does this feeling get through to you? also, i started posing him... On his knees, holding the cat in a tad bit of distance because he doesn't want it to get burned by the burned clothes that he wears....

Comments and critique more than welcome..

Good work on the character, but the expressions seems not to fit to your concept. So far as I understood your idea, you want to show the man after the rescue of his pet...for me he looks more like in a great shock or surprise. But I'm looking out for your updates!:)

authentic: First of all thanks for your comments... Maybe i should change the concept but i like it and i want to believe that something spectacular could come out of this... Anyway... there is still a lot of time to change if more people see this as a non-spectacular idea...

Gus_clifton: Thank you very much...

daWinky: Thanks for the reply and kind words... The start of the concept was that the man would come out of the burning building and have a face of happiness... but i thought about it and came to the conclusion that after being severly burned you can't possibly have a happy face so i went for pain and tears instead (coming soon)...

first of all, i would like to say i am really sorry for not updating for a week or so but it was a week from hell... Don't really want to say anything more on that... Here is an update....

da winky and JamesMK: i am really glad you like it...

the coat so far... nothing great but my pc is getting itchy right now... i had a power surge and it burned 512mb of ram so right now i only have 512... the buttons are little smilies...

the coat design is based on a strange coat i saw once... looks weird, doesn't it? the buttons tie together with an elastic band in the real coat... Started wrinkling it up a bit but not very much since it is supposed to be leather so it sould be stiff...

It's not over yet so comments and suggestions are very welcome....

fixed a couple of the minor details in the face that had been bugging me... shirt, pants, hands and boots are just base meshes still... face is almost complete modelling-wise and the coat and hair is halfway there (as far as modelling is concearned)...

Looks really really good so far

I'm not sure about the pose, the arms in particular (though maybe this is just a test to check deformations, in which case you can safely disregard this comment), but it makes him look a bit like an actor striking a pose rather than someone being truly affected by something... I think it's the relationship between the hands that doesn't look natural.

James and Sergio: Thanks a lot for the support.. the hands are not final in any way neither pose-wise nor modelling-wise... i will recreate the sleeves and hands in a later update... I just concentrate on one thing at a time...

3rd user: thanks you very much...

suk-grigorij: First of all thanks you for your comments but could you be more specific in what stikes you as odd in the man so that i might change it?

daWinky: Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments Sabrina... It still needs lots of work and i am kind of pressed at work right now but i will try to update soon with changes...

ali_rahimi_3d: Thank you very much and i will work more on the coat soon...

An idea has been swirling in my mind these past days on changing the concept and all... tell me what you think... A transformation to a werewolf..

Do you think this idea is more spectacular or the first one?

Thanks in advance

P.S. I just googled for the images that put the sketch together (except the man model) :D... sorry that i cant give credit to those who took the pictures and made the werewolf...

I thought your initial concept was interesting but not overly spectacular and, if i'm really honest, a bit sappy :)

Now a dude turning into a werewolf - that would rock!

not much... found that the hands that i had were just bad so i erased them and recreated them... deleted the sleves of the coat too... will fix them very soon... the hands are not posed yet (as you can) but i will pose them in the next update.. i was thinking of something along the lines of half closed fists on the side of the body, sort of a "why me?" jesture... fixed problematic area of the pants and shirt.. fixed some topology on the face.. fixed the butt that was non existant (cant be seen in this update).. I will probably delete the hair and recreate them this weekend if i am at home...

thierry and eddie:thank you very much for your comments...

Ok.. so we have: new hair, some corrections in the arms and posing them, some composition and mood (initial light setup) thoughts... I also like the character without sleeves... a little ecentric but i kind of dig this style... he is not complete but since my pc ca't take too much geometry at the moment, i will model the more stuff later on or i might make it up with the textures... at the moment i want to start modelling something else...

I was thinking of this angle with the werewolf pretty much going out of the back of the man howling... The blank space to the left will be covered with a withering tree and a full moon will come behind the rocks either behind the two main characters or on the upper left of the image... the second is my choice for now but it will be tested when all the elements are complete...

i have started with the form of the werewolf by it is just a form resaerch for now.. i will post once i have some solid base for him at least...

That's it for now...

Hope you like it... Comments and critique more than welcome as always.. i would like you to post comments on the pose if you can... is it any good? dramatic enough?

i was thinking of something this simple in terms of concept for the scenery... just a hill with rocks, a dead tree and the moon.. tell me what you think... Should i add more things or should i keep it this minimalistic... By the way, i don't post the werewolf yet because i am not satisfied with the general shape that he has so far.. Will restart creating him from scratch today...

First of all, i would like to thank the people that supported me through this thread... Thank you very very much guys and gals...

I have to quit the challenge because i have to give an assignment/thesis/project (all in one) for the place i work in concearning new artforms and the development of art in the digital wold... Basically i have to write a small book (150 pages) and create a real-life counterpart of the things that i will talk about in my thesis... And i only have 3 months to do so (including research) so i REALLY can't afford the time to devote in this challenge because i would end up producing another mediocre result (and i really dont want that at all)...

Best of luck to everyone in this challenge and i will be visiting to check on your threads...

Once again, thanks for your support.
