Latest Update: Final Image: Birth (The Demon King)
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7764/7764_1133006860_medium.jpg (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=2855334#post2855334)

Hey Guy's the title of my Image is called "Birth (The Demon King)".

I haven't really got a backstory for this image, but i would like to give you the reasons why i choose to do it for the challange.

a Couple of day's before the challenge started i became the proud father of a bouncing baby boy. When the challenge was annouced i read the instructions which asked us all to produce an image that depicted a moment or event in time that was spectactular. Which made me think of what was the most spectacular moment in my life, which funnily enough was a couple of days previous when i watch my Son being born.
A futher description in the challenge was to produce an image that would excite and sicken the viewer at the same time, i took this litrally and thought what would be the best thing i could do to show the spectular event of birth, but in just a way that would bring allot of controvicy and make the image talked about for along time after. I was reminded of something Goerge A Romero said in an interview which was "why cut the camera away at all the good bits, its what the vewier wants to see weather say it or not".

These were the reason why i decided to do such a image, plus the fact i love to shock people...

Nice concept you have…

I have something similar, but not the same, I have the opposite (the birth of the good)
Hope you don’t mind…
Good luck!!!

el_newty : No Mate, i dont mind... I have to do this picture as the birth of my son, not 4 weeks ago was the most spectacular moment in my life. this picture has been in my mind since then and will plague it unytil i manage to get it on paper.

Actually got around to do some modelling today, which is cool...

Done this so far, but need to change the expression to more of a crying baby.
Ive decided to do a basic head in Max and then detail and give demon features in ZB.

Will keep you all updated

jddog : Thanks mate

yunisirees & Gunilla : I think Zb is the only way to go nowaday's, if you look at the winning entries in the M&S challenge, i would say 8 out 10 of them used ZB..

Ramtin_moom : Hey Mate, dont worry about the shader its just a quick ref, i will end up using allot of purple and brown (like Giger) and SSS for the photorealistic feel

alexfalchi : My old friend, good to hear from you again... so why arn't you entering this one ?

Eddie... Making it look easy again already I see... Dig the direction, congrats on the new junior, good luck making this wicked concept come to life;)

Hey hey, I'm subscribed! That's a really cute kid you have, give'em some nice big horns!

I think it might be good to work on your concept a bit further, since based on your last sketch it lacks a bit of the spectacular, doesn't it? Cheers on the good start!

Hiya,,, ooohhh people subscibing to my thread, i feel Honoured. :)

Ok people with a squimish nature please stop reading now.

The reason why i am doing this pic is because it was the most Spectacular momemt in my life, when my son was born, so i couldn't think of a more fitting image for the title.
I know my concept is not very detailed at the moment, but thats because i preferr to day my work in 3d rather then on paper.

So here is a decription of the final image to those who wont to no more. Birth is always a spectactular moment at any point, but what i will be attempting is a picture of the demon king being born. my thought are to try to show as much pain as i can get, the baby will be eating his way out of the womb, so i will have blood and tissue tailing from the baby mouth and horns, not to mention blood streaming from the mother.
The compersition will hopefully allow me to show the mothers face, with a extreme expression of pain but hopefully i will manage to attchieve this with a suttle amount of pleasure (giving the mother that sadist feel).... to top this off i would like to put the fathers hand around the back of the babies nect ripping the baby from the womb (not sure if i can do this depends out the compersition).

And Yes i have a twisted mind....

jddog : Thanks again man

Maxter : Thank you, glad you like

DaddyMack my old firend, good to see you again, glad you like the concept and its always a pleasure working with you. :buttrock:

mmoir : Thanks mate... he's a bugger and i not sleeping but i wouldn't change it for the world.

Ramtin_moom : Thanks dude

nebezial : i do tend to have a style, but i do try to mix my images up as much as possible

keetmun : They Mate, i feel hounered, please read above and i'll try not to disapoint you

beelow : Hounered again and thanks man

overcontrast : Thanks mate, i know it need allot of work, and its hard not to add little things here and there, but i will be doing all that in zb, so i need to keep the model as basic as possible... which is something im finding difficult as i just wont to keep adding details...lol

ace4016
09-11-2005, 07:42 PM
Sheesh, the baby is already hard enough for women to push out and here you add horns:D . If you want a more painfull look, I would go with the horns that point upward, the new ones seem like they would be easier to push out and wouldn't cause as much damage....hehe, now i sound twisted. Waiting patiently for that body.

Nice modeling.

One crit would be that the left hand looks like its on the wrong way round. This is because all his fingers are the same size. You can see this on the other hand but it's not as critical as you can see the thumb.

Although a subtle fix I reckon you'd see a huge improvement if you gave him correctly proportioned fingers particularly the little finger on his left hand.

The facial expression is great, look forward to seeing him textured...

Good work,
Dave

well. i think thats nearly there, just need to put in alittle more detailing.

Hey Gunilla think claws would be cool, but i kinnda unwrapped the model and when i ad more verts it messes it all up.. if anybody knows who to get around this easily i would appericate it.

Gunilla
09-26-2005, 04:54 PM
Are you on MAX? If so, you could add a editpoly modifier above the Unwrap - that's what I've done since I discovered a lot of mess in the mesh after adding the Unwrap. But as you know, I'm really now expert on Unwrapping - yet :)
You could perhaps also make it as separate polys?

eddieellis
09-26-2005, 04:58 PM
yeh using max and bodypaint, unfortunalty i do everything in Sub-d's so if i add a edit mesh mod after the uv mod it gives me a 100 polys for the finger nails...... doh doh doh

i think i might have to add the geom as a seperate object

Tring to get that giger feel now, not sure if its working, let me know what you think ?

handlebar
10-01-2005, 04:04 PM
I personally think that you have such a strong image in the baby that it would look better if the mother was a normal human figure but with a look of total horror and revoltion on her face, as if she wasn't expecting the demon dude to pop out, but a normal child. If you get too geigerish with the mother i feel that the baby will loose some of it's impact.

eddieellis
10-01-2005, 04:40 PM
yeh you got a good point there, and a nice idea, but the setting would be all wrong if i were to place it in a hospital ?

But saying that the mother wont really be in shot that much as i will be using a depth of field shot which should hopefully blur out the mothers face in the background.

What does everyone else think, as im now in two minds ?

My vote is for human giving birth to a devilchild... :) I kind of like the first face you updated today...

DaddyMack
10-01-2005, 07:23 PM
Heya Eddie, In keeping wiith the Giger feel I'd go with human, and make her utterly gorgeous, innocent and feminine... Push yourself on it mate, then I'd F**k her up somehow with some subtle demonic details, like she's just been possessed, veins protruding, wierd eyes, exaggerated expression etc... To be really out there she could be instead looking at the lil fella with utter adoration.. unaware of her pain or that He's hellspawn... Whatever you go with I'd say that the more subtle the overall demonic nature of the lucky lady the more attention is given to juniour... Keep Rokkin!

Gunilla
10-02-2005, 08:02 AM
Yep - I'm totally with Mack on this. Modeling so far is really great but I think the image might get even stronger with her completely human. A mix between innocence and devilness ... this is goiung to be so fab - just keep on

Hey Guy's, ok i see your point, i have tried to doa human mother this morning and got this far... but the more i do it the less it like the idea..

So i think im going to have to make an artists decision and go with my original idea, with alittle change in mind... ive decided to have the mother (demon) sitting in a thrown with birth stirups given birth.... the human mother idea is a sound one, but kindda puts a comedy element into the peice and to be honest thats not me.

So i hope you guy's will bear with me, as im kind of a sicko and really need to go with the horror twisted feel... But hey if it doesn't work out then you can all say i told you so.... lol

Eddie, Eddie...it's a cool stuff man! I see you well realizing that idea! Fine expressions. "HOT" topic. expressive theme. Just keep rockin! Only crit: moms face looks flat a bit. The baby's face looks very well rounded, but mom's face is not as rounded. Its not too important but moms face is seen a below viewpont. Personal taste you know. Go on your own way :buttrock:

This image just made my day - you need help man! Although not with your modeling skills I might point out.

Congrats on a totally unique concept, how about a devil father fainting in the background?

This is gonna be a classic!

eddieellis
10-11-2005, 12:05 PM
Hey Swamps.. thanks man... been thinking about the background for the last couple of days... and to be honest the only thing i liked the idea of is a really dank room and a beaten up blood stained cot in the distance.

Any thoughts ?

pseudonympending
10-11-2005, 12:15 PM
Yeah maybe... How about several sinister looking forms standing in the background? You wouldn't have to model much as they'd be more effective in shadow (or maybe they are shadows), just their prescence would be really creepy - like they're some evil devil types witnessing the birth of the anti-christ or something. Could be really spooky...

Hey Guy's, been toying with an idea of having an evil preist in the background. i kindda like the firey effect in the distance.. but i watched Constintine again today and also like the idea of a burning city with all its minions watching... not sure what do you guy's think ?

Gunilla
10-13-2005, 04:29 PM
I think the texture for her leg is amazing...! The rest too, but really - that leg is killing me

For background I still like the idea of the evil crowd but a burning city could be pretty cool too.

Hey guy's been working on this idea for the background.... im torn between either having an evil priest or a monk like robed figure where you cn only see his jaw and hands ?

What do you guy's think ?... or is it alittle too much for one picture ?

makaron
10-16-2005, 11:26 AM
my wote goes to, monk like robed figure... but not too scary so it draws the att. from the -baby...

Gunilla
10-16-2005, 12:45 PM
It could work... the shapes looks fine in the comp I think. Perhaps making him a bit aetheral/spirit something? "Unflesh" besides the "fleshy" mother and baby could look really cool.

And please, don't texture better - this is way more than I can stand already... maggots! Urrk!:bounce:

eddieellis

makaron : yep deffinately mate.... think i might add some more DOF later.

Grrrrrrr : tried to put that moisture, but need to do more test as im not happy with the result yet... and thanks for dropping by.

Quite an amazing birth you've got there. I think thats the first one i've seen here on CGTalk. And I must say, I think any birthings in the future are going to have to be pretty extreme to top this. Great job man.

A few suggestions, Definately add more "slim" to the baby and the "mother". Make it look as wet and messy as possible.

yes, I think that the baby could do with some more SWSS, Slimey Wet Slippery Stuff. Perhaps you could try some blobmesh? That could be cruel

A break is definitely a good thing - look at so much beautiful things you can so you get ready to grasp the nasty again

Agent_Orange : No , no more creepy crawley's as i dont want to over do thing.

Lemog : i have a few more things to do before i start on the monk, i think im going to go for a kindda ringwraith type of creature but as a elemental spirit (which is on fire)... dont know quite how to do that .. but will give it my best shot

(o)ne : i try :)

Gunilla : hey buddy, swss is coming.. do youknow how to use bloobmesh ?

Blobmesh - sure! Here's (http://www.xedium3d.com/tutorials/blobmesh/blobmesh.html) a tut for using it with particles. You could also use manually created helpers for building the mesh, blobs/metaballs is really good for making mucus gooey stuff. I love it!
