View Full Version : Facial Animation for Critique
sporadic 09-04-2005, 03:34 PM I have a Facial Animation I'm working on that I'd love a few crits on. I have my own ideas where to go with it, but I'd like to see what others think, as well. This is the shot following the one here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=259322), which might help provide a bit more context.
Thanks.

I think his head/neck movements should be quicker. I don't move my head slowly like your character does; maybe if you increase the speed about 1.5 times it would look more natural.
I like the mouth movements--they add a lot of realism to the character.

Good start. Looks a little stiff and linear. Work on adding some settle-in. Keep at it.

Thanks for the comments.
dbates: I had had the head motions faster in an early version, and he looked a bit birdlike, head bobbing all over, so I was a bit reticent to do it now, but there was a lot more head movements then, and after doing a few passes, there weren't as many. So I tried it and I like it, though I'm not sure I got exactly the timing I want.
acacia: Yeah, the settles and anticipates and such are always a bit tricky for me. I thikn I've gotten it a bit better, but I dunno.
Here's the newest version (http://sporadicenterprises.net/SE/downloads/scene3B/Playblast.002.mov). The main difference is that I wanted a little more 'thought', so I needed to make it a bit longer. Despite this, I've sped up a couple of things, and modified the placement of others. Tell me what you think! And if anyone else wants to chime in, please do. ;)
