Working with MR and Maya 6.5 - intially worked with .tiffs and tweaked my scene but now that I am converting to .maps I am running into some weirdness....

Everything renders fine if I just source the .map - but I do get a warning in the output log that says:

IMG 0.3 warn 102008: image file X:/evanshen/textures/Jeep/tyre/finals/tyre_g1.map cannot be cached, it isn't prefiltered

So I turned flitering off in the file node and I no longer recieved the error - but the image no longer maps correctly to the geometry - can't tell if it is rotated or flipped - but I have generated several versions of the .map files built from tiffs and tgas and jpgs.

Turning on any of the prefilter options or settings (mipmap, box etc) all render properly but return the same warning error and I can't tell then if the .map file is then being used in the proper way and providing the optimizations I am looking for....

Any thoughts or experience with this would be appreciated.

not sure if it helps but mentalRay never plays nice with tiff's.

Create your .map files using:

imf_disp -r -p img.tif img.map

Otherwise, you have no mipmapping in your .map files, and mray has to create the mipmap on the fly.
