I'm trying the xsi experience CD and I have two problems:

1. It forces me to use a minimum res of 1280x1024. I have a pretty good monitor but working 12 hours a day at this rez will give me eye strain. Does anyone know if this is changed in xsi 3.0? Why don't they let their users decide what rez they want to use? I currently run max at 1152x864 and I'm happy with that rez.

2. I have dual monitor setup. XSI stretches the gui across both monitors when I maximize (max, maya, lightwave, etc. seem to be able to handle this). Is there some setting I'm missing and is this fixed/changed in 3.0?

I'm a max user, but I'm interested in XSI's animation tools. There's a XSI course starting in Jan that I want to take, but these two problems (while they may seem minor) are show stoppers for me. Thanks.

1. xsi minimum requirment resolution is 1280x1024. They should let you run in 1152x864, just that some of the button you will not able to see.

2. I don't know anything about dual mon.

Your monitor setting is probably set at a low refresh rate.

What about your video card? You didn't mention anything about that.....

Desktop - Right Click - Properties - Settings Tab - Advanced Button - Primary Monitor Tab - Refresh Frequency.

60 Hertz is too low and is what creates the eye strain.
75 & 85 Hertz is good. The latter is what I use.
Some cards can go 100 & 120 Hertz and above.

Set the same for the second monitor.

NOTE: Deselect "Hide modes my monitor can't display". My Sony driver says 60 is the highest it can go - I tried 85 and it works comfortably at 1600*1200 @85Hertz

The card is set at 85hz and everyone's eyes are different. The bottom line is I don't want to use a higher resolution just for this program.
I got help for this at xsibase( http://www.xsibase.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=genxsi;action=display;num=1036529337;start=3#3)

First off, what kinda video card do you have? I know that with my geforce4 I can't make XSI maximized on one screen like you. I think, although I'm not 100% sure that it has to do with the lack of dual ramdacs on the card.

As for your screen size problems, go to www.edharriss.com Click on the resources tab on the left and then click on the layout section and you'll find an 1152x864

Hope that helps,

One of the cards is a geoforce3. I got the layouts and they helped a little. I just don't get why they have to force their users to a minimum rez and don't they test their software on dual monitor systems? I've tried max, maya, lightwave, etc without any problems. I think I'll just stick with max and hope for NLA one day.

the maximize issue is the way XSI sees your desktop versus other apps. same thing on my 3dlabs, just resize the window

they only offer a few included dual layouts such as those for 1280x1024, make your own or DL some
