I doubt anyone here will be able to help based on those error logs unfortunately. You might want to also run a disk defragmenter and disk checker on your hardrive. I don't know what they are called on a Mac but they'll be there somewhere. Have you installed any additional hardware recently?

I was also wondering why you can't just reinstall AFX rather than reformatting everything?

I've discovered the program will start in "Classic", but the Classic operating system is far too slow to work in. I begin to wonder if 5.5 will not work in OSX 10.3.9. Maybe I 'software upgraded' too high for a two year old program. But that seems unlikely, I've run every diagnostic I could, and have tried reinstalling under variouse differnt circumstances. When I open the program it loads up and then right as it loads on to screen it crashes.

Well it looks like it's time to email the Adobe engineers. Your problem is ultimately most likely to be answered properly by them.

If you have installed some plugins recently those might also be somehow corrupted and cause that. I think there was a way to start AE without it loading any plugins, press Alt during startup or something... Check help about that. Or you can simply move plugins temporarily to another folder to test if that's the case...

And on top of tuomok´s tips with temporarily removeing the plugins, you should try to clearout all of Afx preference files

your user > libraries > preferences > com.adobe.AfterEffects.plist

your user > libraries > preferences > Adobe After Effects 6.5 Prefs
