I’m a new member to this site so I thought I would introduce myself with my latest work. I made this scene using max 5 and photoshop, I hope you guys like it :).

Thanks man, glad you liked the image, but the fruits growing from the tree are called tomaccos dough ;).

Here's a close-up of the crazy tomaccos :scream:

Hi Riddlaz,

The first image is really nice (the ocean and moonlight). The lighting on the horizon is great, but it brings up the idea that the lighting in the foreground is sorely missing. Obviously if this is intended then there was reason for it, but if this is the entire presentation then I would recommend adding more lighting and color to the elements in the foreground, so they match the intensity and saturation we see on the horizon. This would make the image much more balanced and provide some nice rich colors in the foreground as well. Was this image created entirely in Max or did you do some post in Photoshop or similar? Just curious...

The image of the tree is also very nice -- you have a knack for good-looking characters. I would recommend moving your primary light toward the front of the tree instead of behind. This would give more contrast to the front of the character and give it more depth.

Nice work and please continue to post more.

Best,
Joe

Jscarr, the horizon is actually volume fog, using three layers with different color values, two layers with different dark shades of blue and a light aqua blue tone for another. As for the lighting in the foreground, I see your point about making it a bit brighter dough the reason why you don’t see many highlights in the objects in the foreground is because I always try to keep away from the plastic look, but you can get a better idea of the intensity coming form the moon light by looking at the fountain and the rocks around it, since there supposed to be wet materials they have a higher spec level all of the rest have a very low amount. The reasons why I didn’t make the lights illuminating the opposite side of the moon was because I wanted the moon light to be the only light source in the scene nor I didn’t want the scene to looked washed out. But judging by the moon glow and how it seems to be illuminating on the fog, I completely understand how one would expect for the rest of the scenery to be highly illuminated so your point is well taken, thanks for the comments ;).

I’ve always considered photoshop my left hand tool, I mainly use photoshop as a texturing tool other than for post effect/post work, all of the textures were completely made or heavily tweaked with ps, I normally don’t do post work on my images but In this case I did, what I did is I made color corrections (that’s almost always necessary) and some scratching w/ dodge and burn tools (on pumpkin and stones).

Btw, you can go here (http://sv1.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/showcase_page.php?userid=11931) to view different/normal versions of the scene, including a sunset and a sunny day versions :).

Thanks again,
Riddlaz C.

Really very nice. It looks as if detail was your thing, everything fits perfectly, no complaints.

Yes the Tomaccos rea very funny weird characterised faces, well done on them. And well done on the tree too, there is lots of detail in there that is lost in the origonal image because of the low lighting. It's nice to see it full bright.
