View Full Version : My robot character
jasonkay 09-01-2005, 10:02 AM Hi to all.
this is my new wip, I'm trying to make a cool character that can be animated easly.
the texture it's orrible, I don't know if it's better usign real texture (like this http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=246970) or more cartoon texture (like this http://images.planetspice.de/reviews/Robots/Robots-Poster.jpg).
can you tell me some council?
thanks a lot

IMO I would try to give the more realistic texturing a go. I think its harder to do the more realistic texturing ( for me anyway!) and I personally would feel more challenged (and proud if I managed to pull it off). Try using some SPD to bring out the more intricate bits. Let us know how it develops. Its always great to watch a project grow and improve over time.

hello
first of all great model and the textures are nice enough for phase one of your project - my advice would be to now start work on your script or story and what sort of world this robot might live in and what might he do. once you know what you are going to do with it and what it will do there you will be better placed to design the right texture for it. check this link, please check it - its a really great little film which, from your robot design, i think you might like. i think you might like it alot.

your advice it's really good. I have no idea what will be the environment of the scene because I started this project for my website but now I'm really happy of the results and I'm sure that I'll do some animation
I see the movie that you post ... it's amazing.

I change some thing in my model and texture but I'm not sure about it.
I would like to obtain a result like this
http://www.maxon.net/pages/gallery/pix/spaceball.jpg
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=210408 (showthread.php?t=210408)
I know that it's really hard!
I have no idea what I could add into my model, now it's rally naked ... some particular like lights, little fissure ...
do someone have some advice?
thanks a lot

You could try adding car rims. I did a quick search on google - http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=car+rims&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images. I prefer it with the orange colour but then its your project : ) You could try adding the rims to the area in between the tyre and the orange coloured sphere? It might look a little different with the rims spokes there.

that dave d image is a cracker...he is one this board as dd if i remember rightly..
i liked the orange crazyness...like the stark nature of it..maybe its a case of changing it properties from organicy...to a more metalic or light based look to it..hard to describe but surface appearance..
keep the orange though..
reminds me of a mimo type bot also...look out for him on here also..i forget his whole username..

Very nice improvement from the original model. I'm inspired to learn BP R2 :)

I would have gone for a toony texture, it gives more scope to include comedy elements into an animation. Deforming the mesh to create comedy will help with a toon setup, deforming when braking, bouncing etc. You could have a couple of robo legs with sneakers coming out of the wheel hub to act as breaks. The hubs could contain different robotic features.

yes, good idea.
my project it's to initially animate the wheel so open the whell and a character comes out of this.
thanks a lot
