Does anybody know any script / plugin for having motion trails in maya. I don't like the existing one. I mostly use final rigg and it does not work well with it.
For you guys who have used motionbuilder, or even charcter studio. You know how it should be, at least. But personally I think the maya motion trajectories does not work as I wish. And I unfortunately can't write neither script o plugins.

I don't think there exist a plugin for another motion trail (Do you mean ghost ?) in Maya. A script /scriptjob/expression would be quite heavy (duplicating the mesh itself increases dramtically the polycount) (oh, maybe duplicate shapes as templates won't be so heavy). And openGL plugin faking duplications could do the job, but needs to be really skilled at programming. Is there a room to reinvent the wheel?

Well i dont mean ghost or onoion skinning. But I want to see the motion traill. Represented by a line, of my selection. Like a motion path. But only as a visual aid to see the archs.
There is an existing one in maya, but it does not work very good. It works bad in hierarchys.
It works perfektly if your animating a bouncing ball. But for a more advanced rigg. As final rigg for an eample it does not do the job. And you can't put it onf of. But it is instead an object you have to create and delete.
It maybe would be enough to have an on off button for your selection.

I hope someone will reinvent whleel of motion trajectory for me soon.

Try perfectArc (http://highend3d.com/maya/downloads/mel_scripts/animation/2674.html) script. You can even change the color of the line and compare the trajectory with a new one, unfortunately it's limited to three colors. It will also show spacing with locators or spheres.

or

AnimPath (http://highend3d.com/maya/downloads/plugins/animation/3111.html). This plugin will make an editable curve that shows the trajectory. It'll only work on controls that you translate to animate, like IK controls. But you can select points on the curve (actual keyframes) and move them around which will change your animation on the fly. Really cool, but not as general use as perfectArc.

Play around with both of them. I personally use perfectArc more because you can even see arcs from objects that you don't set keys. Just put a locator on a vertex and parent to the object, use the script to create a curve from the locator and there's your arc.
