I was asked to do a small 30second intro spot for a television apearrance.

I've been working with AE for quite some time now but my output never got outside the realm of computerland. I'm faced with a request for Digibeta output. The problem is that the staff of the TV company is not really helpfull on the matter. I won't be doing the taping myself, so all I need are the proper settings for AF

I'm in Hungary so I guess I'll be needing the PAL version:

- I won't be needing any audio for the project
- As far as I know the resolution will be - 720 x 576

This is where I stand :(

- I'm interested in field settings if I'll have to use any - I read PAL is interlaced
- also interested in framerate 25/50 ?
- pixel format - is square ok ?
- other relevant info, I can't even imagine just now.....
- limitations or bugs I'll have to look out for

Thank you in advance for anyone who is willing to enlighten me !

TV-standard's are very well documented so you would find everything you need just by googling, but here goes.

For traditional 4:3 PAL projects use the following settings inside AE:

- Comp settings, preset: PAL D1/DV, 720x576
- render output 720x576, 25fps, upper fields first
- file format depends on the edit system used to print to tape, but most
of the systems can import QuickTime / Animation codec / full quality

If youre doing 16:9 project settings are a bit different, depending on... many things.

If you have video or pre-rendered footage in your project, they should have preferrably be rendered with fields as well, and inside AE you must have footage interpretation settings correct for each source footage item; lower field first for DV and NTSC material, upper fields first for (correctly) rendered 3D- and PAL source material and so on.

If you're doing some still material for the project in Photoshop, use proper preset with non-square pixels (1,066 pixel aspect ratio).

Unfortunately you cannot preview your interlaced material correctly on your computer screen, so you'll see your fields (correct and incorrect ones) only with an edit program and a tv-monitor.

Few no no's :
- don't use thin horizontal lines or small serif type
- avoid pure primary colors and full white
- don't put any text or anything important inside safe-areas

HTH.
