Hmmm...
Something with tea, methinks!:D

erilaz
11-05-2002, 03:13 AM
Yes, tea-ish it will be.
I am going to create me as a game hero. Tea will be included. Games, tea, and martial arts are my main hobbies, so it all comes together nicely!:D

I'll be posting more concepts, because as you can see, my drawing skills still haven't improved over the last 3 challenges! It will be a challenge to make a decent looking concept!:D

"Dare you face my tea-drinking skills?"

mrmark

hehe tea is mad
im a bit of a fan of tea

fancy a tea battle?? (that would make an interesting final image)

Clanger
11-05-2002, 10:07 AM
Drawing looks pretty good too me.

erilaz
11-05-2002, 10:35 AM
mrmark: Yep, I am a bit tea mad. The battle is brewing...:D

clanger: Hey, thanks! That's a real compliment, because I've always thought my drawings to be rather shameful. Hopefully when I've drawn up enough ideas, my model will look good too.:)

Hi Erilaz - you just keep going!! Great!! I Look forward to your entry - I want to see some wet teabag nunchakus in it!!

"The battle is brewing"

oh man that was so cheesy

I love it!

cool concept. I am doing martial arts to man, our other selves should spar hehe

erilaz
11-05-2002, 07:20 PM
Pit: Whee! Great to hear from you bud! It's been a while.:D

KingMob:You may not have seen it before, but I do A LOT of really bad puns during the challenges, so this is just the beginning!
:D I've noticed that a lot of us CG people do martial arts. Maybe we should all have a tournament!:wip:

More concepts today at some point. Work is tight!

LOL, I also do Martial Arts, I lately have been training in Jeet June Do. I guess, seeing how we all work on the computer, we feel we have something to prove to the outside world, you know, like we have to prove that we are not wimpy geeks. lol, I don't know. Just my take on it I guess.

I do wing chun, we are practically kung fu brothers!

erilaz
11-05-2002, 10:22 PM
I do Chinese Animal-Style kung-fu. It's a more traditional shaolin style, embodying the 5 classic animals: The Tiger, the Crane, the Panther, the Snake and the Dragon. Monkeys come into it as well.:D
Hmm... my challenge thread is becoming a dojo!

CobraX

Traditionnal Martial Arts are just good too see...they are arts.
Nothing i would count on for saving my life in a street situation.

:D

I just wanted to say this hehehe...

erilaz
11-06-2002, 01:00 AM
CobraX: I don't think you've ever seen it truly in action then! Believe me, animal style is quite street-savy.

Nice sketches Erilaz, coming along nicely.

And add my name to the list of thoses who practice martial arts, although I've been and I'm still training in Judo, not exactly the same style.

Glad to see I'm not alone :D

mrmark
11-06-2002, 03:42 AM
i may as well let you know that i do hapkido, a korean martial art :)

my friend john who is really incredibly good at art also does martial arts, jeet kune do mostly i think:beer:

Have all you martial art people heard of the National All-Styles tournament? We could all end up sparring with each other!:D

erilaz

Number 3: This one's a bit sketchy.:hmm:

u are doing a side kick to the head of an invisible opponent whilst calmy sipping on tea :):)

erilaz
11-06-2002, 10:30 AM
bentllama: You'll have to wait until next year now, the national finals are coming up, which need to be qualified for!:D

mrmark: You read my mind... I'm going to do something just like that.

Samaurai tea drinking...hmm...you could make an entire mocie based off tea ninja's....they always fight with a cup of tea in there in hand! Sipping ever so carefully whilst doing full on karate kicks and flips with nun-chucks and such......

heeh rambled sorry....:)

Good Luck!!

KingMob

hehe I love the character thus far....got that wacky anime look.

As for traditional martial arts, I have only seen them in tournaments. But I can say in all honesty wing chun was pretty much made for street fights. I have only had to use it once tho.

I want to learn monkey style, just cause it looks so damn cool!

exactly! I was thinking the same :D

a bit like ninjai, but instead he's always seen with a cup of tea in his hand, and sips it very gentle and controlled while kicking serious ass! :scream:

ow, something else poped into my head :D He should have little bags attached to his belt with all kind of herbs in it, and he can't smile, always looks serious. :D

damn i'm getting all worked up :D

Hey, you guys keep bringing out cool ideas! I may have to make a short tv series or something!:D

But I can say in all honesty wing chun was pretty much made for street fights. I have only had to use it once tho.

Wing Chun is very practical, yes! A good strong style. When our website comes up I'll have to show you my style. We'll be doing some interactive 3d demonstrations on the site in shockwave 3d.

I want to learn monkey style, just cause it looks so damn cool!

Monkey style is really dangerous! Not good in a street situation, because more often than not, you'll be the one ending up in jail. Quite vicious! But yes, I agee, very cool looking style.:wip:

Thanks for all the comments so far guys, I may get some 3D going soon!

Here we go! Some head work going down. He looks a bit serious and un-anime at the moment, but it's early days!:D

Dang it! I left my head at work!
Now you will have to contend with the awesome might that is my headless body.:D

erilaz
11-07-2002, 07:56 AM
And some hands. You can't drink tea easily without 'em!:D (Straws are painful).

erilaz
11-07-2002, 09:31 AM
I tried some toes. I do not think I like toes on my character. Not because these ones look bad, but because I like the look of the spadey foot. I think my character is going to be wearing boots. I like boots... maybe some of those two-toed ninja boots!:D

one advice for the head : I think that U should make the face around the mouth, with the same "maner" as U done around the eyes, it can look better.

go on ! go on ! :wip:

erilaz
11-07-2002, 10:13 AM
Thanks YoGoLo! The head will be a heavy piece of work, I think, because modelling facial features I'm still learning (thanks Wiro!) and I'm also trying to achieve an anime sort of look. I'm still working on that mouth!:D

Heya erilaz, got some suggestions for ya on the head...

It's good that this is still in the early stages or this would be a pain later...

- The red circled area is a lil to dense, you might be able to get away with removing 1 edge loop 2 at most

- The blue circles will be problem areas later when it comes to animation, just remove an edge or two and place them a more flowing position like that half purple circle

- the circles with the arrows are just a couple of suggestions to minimize that stretchy feel you'll get from a final render.

As with all modeling try your best to keep a nice continuous flow in the cage.

my two pence :)

Hand shaping... I'm going to have to check my extensive references for a decent anime-esque skin colour!:bounce:

Heya erilaz, got some suggestions for ya on the head...

Wow! That's one heck of a lot of good tips LilDragon! That's great. Thanks very much! (I must have missed your post while putting up my hand work). Very appreciated.

As I said, the head is not my strongest area, so I may rework it a few times. This sort of feedback is just what I need.:wip:

Thanks again!:bounce:

erilaz
11-08-2002, 09:55 PM
Starting to fix up those areas now (still pointy in the mouth)... I won't be able to work more on the head until tomorrow. Did anyone have comments about the body so far?:D

Just keep hacking away and working hard Erilaz...........I love your ambition and dedication, vital keys for anyone, you have tons of it.I see you get better each month, you really have a great determination,it will pay off in the end.It shows with each passing month............Congrats to you........:applause:

Thanks very much Virtuoso. You're a great encouragement!:D
Although my model looks etremely worried that his head is not looking good. I sort of agree. Back to work!:hmm:

KingMob
11-11-2002, 02:36 PM
I htink you have the starting of a great head here, I would add more to the brow, cheek and move the mouth in a bit, usually, even in cartoon, the mouth ends about half way between the eyes, if that makes sense...

Just keep luggin away cause It's almost there I think, I did the worried look.

11-11-2002, 06:02 PM
:wavey: nice to see you too, it's been a while. i'm sketching away over here, trying to get the feeling i want into the picture. i can see your model's shaping up. you've got a certain style to it... i dig it dude. :)

and if i'm to get my vertices pumping you'd better get those polys jumping ;) [oh no! not the bad rhyming again!]

:wip:

erilaz
11-12-2002, 01:28 AM
KingMob: Good advice. I'm working on those areas now. I don't want him to look worried yet (although it's often I look I have!). Thanks buddy!

Three:Hee hee! We could start a really bad CG rap:

The vertices jumpin' and the polygons pumpin',
displacment maps are bumpin' and the particles are clumpin'.
Edgeloop the face, and sketch up or trace,
'Cause we got dat modelling all over the place!
Break it down! *Insert turntable scratching here*

After that shameless display of lyrical garbage, here's an angrier face. Still not the look I'm going for.

erilaz
11-12-2002, 08:48 AM
Yay! My body looks so much better than my head! (That's possibly true for the real me as well!).

KingMob
11-12-2002, 03:06 PM
you know, I was just looking at your sketch and I figured out what been bugging me. Its your jaw. and mouth, they are to "broad" in the concept sketch they have that anime "point" to em. I think you should try and get that look more and your head would look great!

just my opinion.

erilaz
11-12-2002, 06:26 PM
Once again KingMob, you are the observant guru. Thanks! I thought there was something weird going on. More today sometime! :D

:buttrock:

Keep on rockin man, lookin good!...hehe You gonna model a custom tea cup or use your avatar's?

erilaz
11-14-2002, 04:55 AM
The avatar cup was done in a max 5 demo, so no, I'll be doing a brand new one in my old max 4.2!:D

erilaz
11-14-2002, 10:01 AM
We have head attachment!:D

11-14-2002, 10:57 PM
Looking good, your deffinately improving every challenge wont be long before your kicking serious butt.

The size of the iris (is that the right word?) is bothering me I'd like to see the whites of your eyes more.

KingMob
11-14-2002, 11:23 PM
yeah more whites..

Also your head in the sketch looked much bigger, i think you should keep with that look. just be carefull not to look like a midget hehe.

erilaz
11-15-2002, 10:36 AM
Thanks Clanger. It's good to see I'm getting lots of posts saying I'm improving! Yay!:D

KingMob: Yeah, the head will be bigger. Still working on the proportions.

The irises are supposed to be quite large, but they may be a little too large. I've also got to change the colour of the irises to brown! (My eyes aren't blue).:wip:

erilaz
11-18-2002, 01:19 AM
Right now you're probably thinking "Hey that image looks like a black blob of nothing with two white circles on it." Well, you're almost right!:D

These are the evil ninja foes of my character. Or they will be, when I'm done modelling them! Try to guess my influence.:wip:

three
11-18-2002, 02:55 AM
Heeey! That black dude reminds me of Invader Zim, his dog/robot. But well, his dog is green, and looks stupid :) While this one looks cool.
Love the simplicity of the basic shape... it'd be cool if you had their eyes sort of bounce around, not really attached to the head... I mean, damn, that would be annoying to fight :D

Cheers

I think that there is a little trouble with the back of the foot, just look yours, U'll see a rounder form.
I want to mean that when I look the heel of Ur mesh, I immediatly know that it's made by a box, try to make it less "angular" (juste move some vertex to the interior of the mesh)

here's my opinion :) :wip:

three
11-21-2002, 02:51 PM
ofcourse we're complimenting you dude. :) you R-O-C-K.

I want more of that black dude... now!

Unfortunately, my 3d schedule over the next week is jam-packed, so I will not be able to finish the challenge once again.

One thing I am glad of though, is that I seem to be improving steadily over time (those who followed my previous challenges would most likely agree!). These challenges have been a major factor in improving my modelling skills, so thanks for all the help guys, you've been great.:D

One day I'll actually finish a challenge again!:wip:
